Vermithor's nickname "The Bronze fury" is particularly relevant when you consider Hugh is a blacksmith and works with metal (including Bronze).
Silverwing and Vermithor have a longstanding relationship - Vermithor belonged to Jaehaerys I (the King in the first episode and grandsire of Viserys and Rhaenys) and Silverwing bonded to his wife Queen Alysanne. The two dragons preferred sleeping closely together and Silverwing is noted for coiling around Vermithor. The two became riderless after the King and Queens death, until now. Given the relationship the dragons have, Silverwing may have immediately bonded with Ulf as a responce to Vermithor having recently bonded with Hugh.

I completely agree with you on the scene with Oscar and Daemon, and what it shows about Daemon. It was by far my favourite scene this episode, and Oscar really stole the show.
It was deftly done, balancing humility and acknowledgement of his youth with a show of strength - far, far more effective that the sort of immature strength that we see Daemon wave around like a stick.
To Daemon's credit, he did realise that he would need to follow Oscar's lead to gain the Riverlords. It was a low bar, but he did clear it; ✨growth✨
Daemon conceives of himself as the brother better suited for the crown, but the truth is that Viserys and Daemon occupy opposite ends of a spectrum, where a good ruler should be somewhere in between those two extremes.

    🏆 "This was EPIC "
Yes, this was an *EPIC* reaction. 🤩👍👍👍
I swear to you, this reactor misses _NOTHING_ .
Everyone else hates Daemon's vision quest in Harrenhal.
SoFie loves it, because it is a radical, critical character arc for one of the loosest cannons in GoT. She's right.
The rest, the _lesser_ reactors (and audience members), are addicted to John Wick-ian revenge fantasies and subsequent unending gratuitous violence. "More battles!" "More dragon air-to-air combat!" "Come on! Show us armies of cinder and gore and explosive blasts of fire and cries of agony!!!"
"What's with all this boring _TALKING_ ? The only _good_ dialog is arguments and threats, which then lead to SUFFERING, DEATH, MURDER, CRUELTY more more more! Please, I'm almost out of dopamine here!"
"Won't somebody stop the stupid dreams and just say, _DRACARYS_ ?!"
Pffft. Daemon doesn't need more violence, that's already his strength. He needed a down to earth humility check.
    "BOE-RING"
Daemon finally cried in sympathy with his brother as King Viserys mourned the uber-tragic, gut wrenching loss of his wife. "I wasn't there for you, but I'm here now." [gasp] Could Daemon be...dare we utter the word... _maturing_ ?
Remember, Rhaenyra sent one of her council members to find Daemon and discern his motives. Is he raising an army for himself, or for _his_ _QUEEN_ ?!? Daemon got dressed down by the Minnow of house Tully. In front of the furious River Lords. And he had to take it. By executing the dooshbag who committed uncounted atrocities carrying _Rhaenyras_ banner, Daemon de facto admitted guilt, and contrition.
Wait, what?!? Daemon admitting a mistake, even under duress? Say it ain't so. That slippery little fishy caught a dragon in his own net.
What's Daemon going to say when Rhaenyra's emissary shows up? Does he want the crown, or has he learned his lesson? Is Daemon going to die in the godswood as Alys predicted? Or was it a metaphor for the death of his dream of sitting on the Iron Throne, and happened when he lopped off said doosh's head?
SoFie nailed every angle of Jacaerys' angst with his mother, his bastard heritage, and the softness of his claim if Rhaenyra dies. And the character of the three new bastard dragon lords. Are they worthy of knighthood? Will they prove themselves in combat? Are they loyal? What of their families?
Battles might be spectacular, but they are not what GoT/HotD is about.
    Butters told us.
It's about non sequitur weiner shots. (Thank Aemond!)

Hugh's mother wasn't a Targaryen bastard, she was princess Saera, the legitimate daughter of king Jaherys and queen Alysanne. She was always "wayward", and when king Jaherys caught her in bed with _three_ men, it was too much. He killed one of them in a duel, sent the other two to the The Wall, and sent Saera to Oldtown to become a septa. However Saera escaped from the Sept, made her way to the harbour, and bought passage to Essos with sex. She ended up working in a Lysene pleasure house, commanding top rates because, as Hugh said, men would pay highly to spend the night with a Targaryan princess. Eventually she moved to Volantis and became the madam of a high-class pleasure house. She had three sons, and in the book, all three showed up at the Great Council organised by Jaherys to decide the succession (the one where Rhaenys was passed over in favour of Viserys) in order to stake a claim. They got nowhere. The show has kinda split from the book here, because in the book Hugh's parentage is completely unknown, and he lives on Dragonstone, not in King's Landing. Of course it's possible that Saera had other boys that aren't recorded or that they've just decided to reassign Hugh to be one of the three known ones, since they can be pretty much deleted from the Great Council story without changing much.

Hugh's mother is not a bastard but Princess Saera Targaryen, King Jaehaerys' trueborn daughter. She was disowned by Jaehaerys after a REALLY BIG scandal. She was sent to Oldtown to become a septa but she escaped to Essos where she became a brothel madam (similar to Aemond's woman Sylvi). Hugh is a bastard born to her. So, he's basically Jaehaerys' grandson via his most hated daughter. And now the rider of his dragon Vermithor 🤣

There is an excellent series on dragon genetics from Preston Jacob's. His theory is dragon is an X gene thing. To ride you need one, to hatch you need 2. So for a Male it would be maternal. But in old Valyria Valyrians and Targaryens inter married for millenia.
I'm wondering of dragons seek like personalities and Silver Wing is also inclined to seek safety.

I think realm would still fight for Jace if Rhaenyra died - he had enough charisma and charm to secure multiple allies for his mother and people can put behind rumors about paternity as long as leader is competent enough. Points he made about risks of giving dragons to lowbornw ere correct - but that is not whom he was in source material. Book Jace would NEVER call the 'mongrels', he trusted them and respected them. They did with him similar things what they did with Daemon giving him negative traits they didn't have in book and at the same time they toned down much of Rhaenyra's superiority complex. They once again villinize their male character and make female character sympathetic when source material states opposite. I am truly irritated by this - I am on Rhaenyra side but she was flawed person and Jacaerys was not elitist 😒

THIS is who true Jacaerys, hero of Dance of the Dragons, open minded and defiant to tradition ❤‍🔥❤‍🔥❤‍🔥, not elitist with superiority complex they made him 😒: "Even after the end of the right of the first night, certain Targaryens continued to dally with the daughters of innkeeps and the wives of fishermen, so seeds and the sons of seeds were plentiful on Dragonstone. It was to them that Prince Jacaerys turned, at the urging of his fool, vowing that any man who could master a dragon would be granted lands and riches and dubbed a knight. His sons would be ennobled, his daughters wed to lords, and he himself would have the honor of fighting beside the Prince of Dragonstone [Jacaerys's title] against the pretender Aegon II Targaryen and his treasonous supporters. (...) Not long after Addam of Hull had proved himself by flying Seasmoke, Lord Corlys went so far as to petition Queen Rhaenyra to remove the taint of bastardy from him and his brother. When Prince Jacaerys added his voice to the request, the queen complied. " (G. R. R. Martin, "Fire & Blood")

Aha, sure. And what did this brilliant plan lead to? Second Tumbleton anyone? Storming of the Dragonpit as a direct consequence? The result of the Dance as a whole? No spoilers here, but book readers know perfectly well what I am talking about.
Prince Jacaerys should have considered the consequences of giving nuclear weapons to vagrants and drunkards a bit more thoroughly.

@@hedinsee6830 I am not saying it was perfect plan, but Jace couldn't predict future and his intention was noble and they actually helped gain back King's Landing. I explained it more in my other comments - my point is they distorted Jace character here by making him looked down upon low born. That is not what happenend in book. You are completely missing point of my comment - Jacaerys was bit naive (or maye he thought he would be able to solve problem - and I believe he would be, as he was charysmatic and charming and people were listenning to him), but he was and compassionate boy who respected lowborns and was their ardent supporter, not elitist they made him in show. That was Rhaenyra's trait. They should keep it in show. (And Storming of dragonpit was result of that some very much loved woman fell from window, not result of lowborn claiming dragons.)

@@pendragonsxskywalkers9518 Yes, they changed Jace. However, they made him smarter in the process. He is not an elitist, he is a realist. In the show he understands perfectly well that by giving dragons to commoners not only Rhaenyra's succession is critically endangered, but the Iron Throne as an institution is thrown into jeopardy. And he is completely right in the show.
The ironic thing is, with no dragonseeds the result of the Dance would likely have been vastly more favourable to the Targaryen dynasty as a whole even if Rhaenyra would likely have lost quickly.
So yes, Jace is different in the show, but I disagree with him being an elitist as you call him. And he was by no means a fluffy bunny in the book anyway.
The storming of the Dragonpit was the result of the terror brought about by the Rook's Rest and, most of all, Tumbleton. The sparks that led to the storming itself were just that, a pretense to light the kindling.

I think it is not a good idea to give ordenary people superhuman strength who previously had none. It is even less good to give power to people who have suffered before. The danger is much greater that they will now take what they want and think that they are entitled to it now. Do we really think that Hugh is honorable? Previous episode has shown that he is not. He knocked down a man to get his food instead of going to the beach himself. And here, too, he is driven by the desire to gain power, even if his wife did not wishes for it. And did he really save the woman's life here or just wanted to prevent the dragon from bonding with her? Because the dragon stood relatively calmly opposite the woman, he did not attack her. He then drew attention to himself. Also interrupted a possible bonding moment. Hugh has selfish ambitions. His goal is first and foremost to give his wife and himself a better life and feels more committed to this than Rhaenyra and the realm. In contrast to this is Addam, who immediately got down on his knees and swore allegiance to Rhaenyra and the realm and immediately turned his back on his old life.
I think Ulf had it so easy with Silverwing because he took on the smell of Silverwing's children from kicking in the eggs. She accepted him more as one of her children. And of course it was intentional to fly from Ulf over King's Landing. Who gave Ulf the saddle for Silverwing? It had to be on it first. Ammond was lured to see the superiority of Rhaenyra. Their goal is still to end everything without bloodshed. This was intimidation in the hope that the other side would give up.

I do not like what they did with Jacaerys because this is NOT who he was in book - yes, he makes some good points to Rhaenyra in this episode but that is NOT whom he was. Book Jacaerys was complete opposite, he was ALL for bastards on dragons, it was Rhaenyra who was distrustful, not him! It was Rhaenyra who insulted one girl who tried to claim dragon because of her lowborn heritage, not Jacarys. Rhaenyra did not participate at all in Dragonseeds thing, it was all Jacaerys! He also welcomed Alyn and Addam into family with open arms 💗, not with distrust on face. Jacaerys's bastardy in book was more ambigous (Velaryons were white and Laenor's mother had dark hair), but rumors were present nonetheless, Greens were taunting him and I always thought Jacaerys was so supportive of other bastards to show that it is ability and graceful character that makes someone worthy, not paternity. Book Jace wanted to tell world: "Maybe I am bastard, maybe I am not - and so what? I will show you strength of actual bastards and you all will be sorry you ever underestimated both me and them!!! Dragons are gods and do not care, why do you people care?!" 🐲❤‍🔥❤‍🔥❤‍🔥 I wanted to see THAT Jacaerys, that noble, brave and open minded Prince who is unapologetic about his look 🧑🏻 and gonna make the best of it, not is ashamed of this. 😔😔💔💔

To me this looks as toning down Rhaenyra's flaws all over again and using male character as scapegoat.
