Good to see 58023 out and about and operating under its own diesel. Also good to see the Stanier Mogul there amongst the other locos, with all locos and stock nicely presented as is usual on the SVR. Nicely shot.
Hi, very good video, nice to see a 58 still alive and kicking, I have a model of 58002-DOW MILL COLLIERY on my layout, a pity it's not the sound version... I was at the Kidderminster Diesel Gala the year before last, great weekend before I was given some disturbing news...hey-ho...
I’m happy to tell you this That loco 58023 is now joining the autumn diesel bash gala event Now hopefully it doesn’t break down as it did in last year in may where it failed to turn up at the Severn valley railway
Thanks for a great video first time i ever saw a class 58 one was poking it's nose out off the paint shop at Doncaster works i thought at the time what the f,,,,k is that
The consensus seems to be general running in remedial work, plus it's the Autumn Diesel gala the begining of October, so whether it works at all then is to be seen...
58.BRs new loco 'with huge export potential'. Total build 50 . No foreign sales. Soon rejected by EWS. Outlived by their predecessor 56s. Hardly the most successful loco of all time. BUT nice to see the class live on in preservation, too many classes, steam and diesel, with NO surviving representatives.
They weren't that terrible but they didn't set the world on fire either. I think they were much worse for wheelslip than the 56s under heavy load. I remember them well in the mid 80s as regular passenger performers along with the 56s on the Sunday birmingham to nuneaton drags of the euston trains, think I had 20 to 30 of them and 60.odd 56s too over the several years it was a regular event.
Talk about beauty and the beast watched this for the 58 and a 52 stole the show

Well, well. A 58 up & running, class and all! Excellent catch.
I know....was a bit of a surprise...

That's a great sight watching 58023 under it's own power. Can I share some of this footage please?
Last time i laid eyes on that loco was when I was working on 58's out in France 2008/09
Love the sound of the Hoovers,Westerns ,Claytons to steam Power,And a Class 58 ,Just wondering how many are preserved ❤❤
Another featureless metal box!! 🤔

Thanks Martin...yes, I remember seeing them being built too...and on test out of Toton & Tinsley....makes me feel very old now !!!
Nice video Andrew :)
Thanks!
They looked good in EWS livery.
I worked worked on them as a driver, a good locomotive apart frome a tendency to suffer from wheel slip
Strange Teddy Bear noises!
Why did they get rid of the 58s
Is 58023 now residential on the SVR?
What is it doing there the 58
