Have to admit I have really changed my mind about Ben. At first I thought he was a bit obnoxious/rude but now I realise it's just his way, it's quite endearing

There are some players in the U.S. - like GM Finegold, who would certainly have been a FORCE in world chess if there were more strong tournaments here which are easier to attend. In Europe, youths have many opportunities. In the U.S., unless your family is fairly wealthy and really committed to travel, etc., you have fewer opportunities for frequent strong competition, not to mention gaining norms. Finegold has been a very strong player for a long time, with some beautiful games on record.

Finegold might only be the 3rd best player on his block, but he's the GOAT lecturer so he showed us.

I was doing opening preparation in the French defense today with stockfish and a database and I saw a game from 2007 that went like 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Bb4 5.e5 Nf4? 6.Bd2??? And I think both players were rated over 2300 so I assumed they saw some genius tactic that made that all make sense so I thought maybe I could play that line and noone would know it since it's only been played once and everyone would fall for whatever weird tricks were there so I put it on stockfish and stockfish said bishop takes queen is like +9.5 and the tournament wasn't blindfold or speed chess
Huh. You're right, but that has to be a typo, or maybe those U16 players weren't quite 2300 yet.

It wouldn't stop castling because there a bishop on F5 protecting the E3 pawn.

I'm sure Ben is a cool guy and a great chess player. But I never liked him as a teacher, especially as when trying to teach kids. Sorry Ben, but if it means anything to you, I did learn from you and I'm not a kid.
