Emanuel Lasker vs Frank James Marshall, Lasker - Marshall World Championship Match (1907): C11 French, Swiss variation
When you got a chess class at 1 and court at 3.
Ben is the primary reason i am interested in Chess.
My primary reason is masochistically playing games online, losing, and hating myself. The truth hurts. Also losing hurts.
Shiroyasha i feel u bro
Those who wait shall be rewarded with 4 Finegold videos in a week
+Classico you mean we get to c4 explosive videos in a week!
I was playing my little brother once, and i took his queen with my bishop. He then took my bishop with his king and lamented how sad he was that he can no longer castle
Another one! Last days have been like christmas Finegold-wise! This is awesome!
How does he come up with these jokes so fast? Too good.
I think it is suspicious
Argoniasty Terrible
It is not really the jokes it is the presentation.
The answer is fries
I'm so excited for 3 months of Ben tbh.
Ben in a suit.. very suspicious
thank you (:
Me: about to get stoned and learn and laugh from Ben, happy days
Love you Ben. Make my day lol.
Ben's lectures are the best
At the time of the match, only Maoczy, Schlechter and Tarrasch were ranked ahead of Marshall.
What did Kasparov smoke when he annotated Marshall vs Lasker.
C4 explosive move!...I love Ben's sense of humor.
Absolutely genius, what else can I add?
Chessmetrics has Marshall at #4 in the world in January 1907, behind Maroczy, Schlechter, and Tarrasch. Lasker was at #9, even though he was the best player, just because Chessmetrics takes points off for inactivity, and Lasker hadn't played in a while.
@Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis .... How can I contact Finegold for coaching?
Lasker didn't miss Rxf7 mate, the BR was on h7 not g8
Laker one of the best when not the best german player and in berlin is the lasker club where i am in!!!!
Damn, Ben dressed up for this one!
Anyone have suggestions for where I can learn some opening theory?
it is said that Marshall played 15...Rh7 instead of 15..Rg8 ... that explains the 'missed' checkmate
Even in 1907 if you got checkmated , you lost.🤣🤣🤣
fresh new finegold
Ben you should go over some more Paul Morphy games!
You were joking about people at home would watch the video later and I looked at the date of the video, wow it's exactly 4 years later, May 6 2020
as always, great Ben Finegold, thank you , hope to see great games not bad ones.
Looking sleek Ben
I can't believe Lasker missed mate. I always wondered how he'd have done in the Soviet era, especially had he dedicated himself more to the game.
Remember, Em. Lasker took his PhD. in mathematics, AFTER he became World Chess Champion. The man was definitely multi-faceted. I think it's fair to say that Em. Lasker played both the board and the opponent.
Fischer, impetuously, called Lasker a coffee house player. Later, he changed his tune. IMO, NY 1924 tells the tale. At a somewhat advanced age, Lasker won the tournament. The order of finish: Lasker 1, Capablanca 2, and Alekhine 3. A very tough field, indeed.

Ben, Game 3, Lasker played Ne4 You didn't mention the trap Marshall had prepared. If Lasker had taken the c pawn Rxc3 then White plays (2) Qxc8! Rxc8 (3)Rxc8 ch Kh7 (4)Rh8 ch! Kxh8 (5)Nxf7 ch White wins.
Here's my hypothesis. Marshall is down 3.5 to 9.5 and has lost two games in a row. He's demoralized and maybe hit the Scotch a little hard the night before, or even the morning of.
@27:45 "can Karjakin beat Carlsen, no... terrible, probably won't win a game"
Whoops!
whoops? He won one game and he was lucky to win it. If Carlsen had played a real opening he wouldn't have lost with white to a guy 150 points lower rated
@@stopwritingthatreplyjohnat6638 He played a real opening. He lost because Karjakin outplayed him.
@@spirou2012 He played the Colle and lost on a one move blunder. The Colle isn't, has never been and never will be a real opening
@@stopwritingthatreplyjohnat6638 The colle is a great solid opening. There is nothing wrong with it
@@spirou2012 ... There is plenty wrong with it, white is worse and passive out of the opening. Both analysis and practise has shown it's awful
It's funny how when you're a late-beginner/early-intermediate chess player, if you spend too much time on theory the first person who plays wild and crazy might end up completely crushing you. Not if they don't know anything about chess, like if they don't know about discovered attacks and pins then you'll win. But if they're a competent chess player who improvises, it's very jarring and then you have to be creative on the spot.
and now h5 with a winning atack !
What about the Marshall gambit in the ruy lopez?
what about it?
+Smith Bob It exists.
It is a gambit, but it's called the Marshall Attack.
At 13:34 White can play QxN. Later he can give up his c-pawn with Rd1 & the d-pawn's threat to march is very strong, as the other Rook can manoever to the e-file to reach e5 or e6. I think Black will have to take the perpetual check.
3rd... i love Frank Marshall!!!!
At 16:00, White could play Rb5 followed by d5 to stop Rh5#. The problem is Rb5 Rxb5 d5 Rb2! with unstoppable Qg2/h2#. Ben should have mentioned this variation, but he's the coolest so I forgive him.
22:43-22:52 Crying

ben is the best.
The best
Why do these game look familiar to the games I've played?
26:26 - Not a joke. That shit happens for real
Nobody got the c4 joke? Really?
Bai Su Zhen
😆😆
what if at 13:26 Marshall played Qxnf3, RxQf3, g2xf3 and Qxg3. maybe the game will go on and a draw will be played
... but @ 20:48 we learn that c4 isn't necessarily _that_ explosive...
+irgendwerjoker Agreed.
+Cristhian Asallam Sanchez Ramirez Oh really? Thank you so much for explaining the joke.
I bet you are the star at every party.
hello again
Wait, is this actually the last World Championship match?
+nomen nescio No, this is in 1907.
In second game ..when black played Nf3 ..why didn't white take with his queen ????
Ben keep up the good work. Thanks for the great matchups
You show up for a lecture drunk one more time Finegold, and you're history. (ha ha)
sitting on rotating chair that's s why they call u rotating GM.

6:21 Bf4!
I think Rd1 should be the answer
Terrible :) Love that from Ben.

CHECKMATE ME DADDY
PRINCE DIED?????
You clearly don't like Prince or you wouldn't be 2 years late on that news.
That third game was the worst game ever played at the "top level" Disgusting moves.
