Has the ability to recover a spell. If it's the anime version of sorcerer then it can reduce a monster's atk by 500 for every spell caster in your grave , negate any trap activation and destroy them. But due to it's summoning condition it's a bit harder to summon compared to the magician of black chaos or the black magician of chaos. The retrain can also be played easily with dedication through light and darkness. So yes with all that extra support the black magician of chaos is the greatest magician in all of duel monsters.

As cool as the ritual monsters were at this time, the ones under 2500 sucked since they did not have special abilities and standalone cards were better. Some games gave ritual monsters abilities to make them viable. Like Serphant Knight Dragon getting 900 points against Spellcasters or Black Luster getting 700 points against dragons.
Considering the number of Equip spells that could power up either spellcasters or Dark attribute monsters even back then, Magician of Black Chaos could easily crush a Blue Eyes.
I think he only came back one more time in Yugi’s duel against seto’s secret brother, he used dark magician, dark magician girl, and the magician of black chaos in a super triple attack

By today's meta yes he is a weak card but, back then, he was a powerful monster to try and defeat. There weren't a whole lot of monsters that could overpower him and spells and traps that could do it were harder to acquire. So, he was a tough monster then.

Way too easy.

It’s funny because Yugi’s opponent could also have one set, then with no monsters left on the opponent’s field, Yugi attacks for game thinking he’s won, but wait! The opp’s Mirror Force activates and destroys his “mighty” Magician of Black Chaos! 😂 So much for that speech he gave!
@@thefirespecialist9007 Not true. The rules in-universe were simply different for Duel Monsters pre-Battle City, and then altered a bit for Duelist Kingdom as well. There wasn't cheating, so to speak, but there were less rules similar to our real life game.
