What I loved about Exodia is that he was the ultimate monster in the first 3 episodes, but then completely dropped for the God Cards and left to us in the real world with a really cool concept of getting all the cards of this mysterious and powerful monster that was only used once, and it was the most epic thing to see destroying all 3 blue eyes. Then never comes back. Sure the rare Hunter had it but it wasn't as memorable compared to the others because it was an episode dedicated to counter that card.
To be fair, they give Exodia a good send off here, with the ancient arts that sealed away the monsters, even the god cards were confined to one stone tablet, wheras Exodia's might is so great, not only does it require 5 tablets to properly seal it, but whoever unseals it is basically guaranteed to die soon after. It's a beast that the gods probably could never hold a candle too, the only reason Exodia even loses here is because Shimon was one, old, and two, a single human controlling a monster that can barely be controlled in the first place.

Not only because they were the most powerful monsters in existence but also because there was a reason why only the Pharoah could summon them and wield their power. The Gods were loyal servants of the Pharoah, Exodia was just a really powerful monster, who could potentially become unhinged on a given day.

So 4Kids were trying to avoid getting sued or their shows cancelled by the FCC. So they were being extra careful at the time because apparently they were already in hot water for basically stealing the rights to Yu-Gi-Oh from Tokyo which later ended up bankrupting them. I don't remember the specifics about that one though.
When I watched this the first time when I was a kid. I remember it made me cry cause I thought it was a powerful moment that yugis grandfather was the controller of exodia and that he sacrificed himself to save everyone
You know what's funny; They removed the arm dismemberment scenes from the English version, which by the way regenerate. But when it comes to having Exodia being split in half, they don't censor that.
I guess they didn't want to get in trouble with the FCC for showing limb dismemberment on a Saturday morning kid's show. And technically they did censor Exodia getting split in half. It's a weird censor with the yellow light in the middle but it's still there.

In the manga, this was the only fight against Zorc. Zorc vs the gods was filler. Manga Exodia vaporizes Zorc's entire army as well, but still gets cut in half at the end.

In theory, Exodia is the most powerful creature ever created. In this fight, we see he was able to go toe to toe with Zorc, however Exodia's weakness is its limited power supply as he is only using the power of a single life whereas Zorc was being powered by the darkness which means it came down to an infinite power supply trumping a limited power supply.

The music and pacing are so much better here than in the Japanese original imo. Every time we've seen Exodia up to this point, he was invincible... yet the Japanese version made the odd choice of immediately showing them cutting each others arms off. So Exodia went from being invincible to an equal. Take a guess what will happen next? No suspense at all.
Still invincible tho. He could recover from any injuries incl. the final cut which ended him. The problem however was that Exodia's power after getting sealed was limited to the old grandpa. Zorc who drew power from the concept of darkness, lost an arm just by Exodia who was powered by a single grandpa.
Here's a few things. In this battle,if you remember, blue eyes white dragon did better than both exodia and the gods. Second, exodia was powered by a frail man. If exodia had been powered by the Pharoah the outcome would have been different. According to Marik, the Pharoah energy is boundless. Meaning exodia would have done much much better if exodia source of strength came from the Pharoah. Or maybe not. The pharaoh didn't know his name yet

Nothing in Yugioh will ever be as cool as the sets of 3; the Egyptian God Cards, The Sacred Beasts, and the Dragon-Knight things (Legendary Dragons? Nameless Dragons? They were never exactly clear on the name. It was Fang of Critias, Eye of Timeaus, and Claw of Hermos) and idc if Exodia is technically an instant win, in my head canon, the Egyptian God Cards are stronger (it's something I decided around 18-20 years ago, and im not changing my mind) That said, Exodia is absolutely cool as all hell
When zorc is played he is as strong as the monster of the opponent meaning he was equally strong to exodia. Only Horakhty can defeat both since the atk and def is limitless and cant be taken over by zorc
If these monsters existed why aren't they around anymore and why haven't there been any Egyptian references in the other yugioh shows I mean it used to be about an Egyptian based card game now we had dragons, aliens, what ever the newest one is about
The original card game was designed by Pegasus using references to Egyptian monsters. In the other shows, this game became so big it had professional players. At this point, the game is probably handled by a big organized company which will make everything needed to make it the most popular possible, like how League of Legends tournaments are handled by Riot Games. And i'm pretty sure between "staying with the same old cards from egyptian tablets" and "selling new cards to attract more players", the second one was the decision Industrial Illusion made. In the GX anime, one of the season 1 heroes even create a card based about Australian landscape, which has nothing to do with Egypt.

@@Kira1Lawliet But you have to understand it's not 4Kids who made that decision, it's the FCC with their rules and laws that has a final say in what can and can't be allowed on air. So 4Kids were trying to avoid getting sued or their shows cancelled by the FCC. So they were being extra careful at the time because apparently they were already in hot water for basically stealing the rights to Yu-Gi-Oh from Tokyo which later ended up bankrupting them. I don't remember the specifics about that one though.

In this fight, we see he was able to go toe to toe with Zorc, however Exodia's weakness is its limited power supply as he is only using the power of a single life whereas Zorc was being powered by the darkness which means it came down to an infinite power supply trumping a limited power supply.

The music and pacing are so much better here than in the Japanese original imo. Every time we've seen Exodia up to this point, he was invincible... yet the Japanese version made the odd choice of immediately showing them cutting each others arms off. So Exodia went from being invincible to an equal. Take a guess what will happen next? No suspense at all.
Still invincible tho. He could recover from any injuries incl. the final cut which ended him. The problem however was that Exodia's power after getting sealed was limited to the old grandpa. Zorc who drew power from the concept of darkness, lost an arm just by Exodia who was powered by a single grandpa.

Nothing in Yugioh will ever be as cool as the sets of 3; the Egyptian God Cards, The Sacred Beasts, and the Dragon-Knight things (Legendary Dragons? Nameless Dragons? They were never exactly clear on the name. It was Fang of Critias, Eye of Timeaus, and Claw of Hermos) and idc if Exodia is technically an instant win, in my head canon, the Egyptian God Cards are stronger (it's something I decided around 18-20 years ago, and im not changing my mind)
That said, Exodia is absolutely cool as all hell

When zorc is played he is as strong as the monster of the opponent meaning he was equally strong to exodia. Only Horakhty can defeat both since the atk and def is limitless and cant be taken over by zorc

The original card game was designed by Pegasus using references to Egyptian monsters.
In the other shows, this game became so big it had professional players.
At this point, the game is probably handled by a big organized company which will make everything needed to make it the most popular possible, like how League of Legends tournaments are handled by Riot Games.
And i'm pretty sure between "staying with the same old cards from egyptian tablets" and "selling new cards to attract more players", the second one was the decision Industrial Illusion made.
In the GX anime, one of the season 1 heroes even create a card based about Australian landscape, which has nothing to do with Egypt.
