In my former LEO career, I've seen 3 people DRT from a .25 to the noggin. One officer I knew was hit in the vest and swore it felt like a boxer's punch (the round went through a ton of stuff in his pocket, hit the vest at an angle, ran along it, tore through the edge where it overlapped (none of our vests fit back then) and cut the crap out of his side. .25 will stop if you put it where it counts. A .44 magnum won't stop if you don't put it where it matters.

Lynn Thompson should create a RUclips channel disassociated from Cold Steel let him promote the hell out of Cold Steel but I think a channel dedicated to just Thompson being Thompson would be fantastically entertaining and be at Liberty to come out with any form of video content he desires. there is a lot of people that hate on Mr.Thompson and I would be lying if I said all of their arguments are baseless( most of it is just talking crap) but with that said Lynn Thompson is one of my idols. Self Made American businessman who is also a badass and has the video evidence to prove it.

I agree whole-heartedly with your closing statement - the gun you CARRY is infinitely superior to the one you leave home / in the car. Due to weight / convenience issues , I constantly found myself NOT carrying my full size pistol , then not the compact and finally not the sub-compact one either...I found these "mouse guns" as others called them , a BREEZE to conceal and actually CARRY under ANY situation. My wife agrees as well , so we are both converts to 25 cal carry. NO - it is NOT a long range or competition gun - that's NOT what it's designed for...it IS a perfect up close and personal save your bacon defense pistol...and we both love it. The tilt up barrel is a super cool bonus that makes loading the pistol the easiest there is !! Thanks for posting this vid !!

380 acp guns are being made the same size and lighter with polymer frames also 22lr micro pistols have the same performance and with modern ammunition are just as reliable now which is why 25acp became obsolete and which is why it's so expensive. 22lr gets a bad reputation for reliability because of the Saturday Night Special type guns that were using it at the high of the micro pistol popularity. Any bullet can kill but that doesn't mean it's a good choice for defense. The only combative use of these pistols that I can see is if you were trying to assassinate someone. They are very small/concealable as well as quiet for a firearm. If you need to shoot someone in the head at close range it's a good choice lol. But if you actually need to defend yourself there are too many variables that render these weapons a poor choice. What if you need to shoot through a barrier like a window/windshield or your attacker is more than a 10 feet away or even if they are wearing a heavy jacket? With how many amazing options we have these days for small easily concealable 9mm, .380 and .40 cal hand guns I do not see the point of carrying anything smaller than a .380. My walther is not that much bigger than one of these in a practical sense, has a better capacity and is much more powerful. And you can get a glock 26 that is even smaller. If you absolutely cannot stand carrying something as big as a 26 then this would be better than nothing, is absolutely still deadly and is easy to carry. But I would prefer to trust my life to something that is proven to be more effective in more situations yet is still easy to carry. The question isn't "will it kill someone?" it's "how fast will this stop the threat?".

If you have the single action Beretta 950 it's 8+1, the trigger pull is so short you can empty it in no time and with little recoil you stay on target, sure it wouldn't be my go to gun, but I don't believe you couldn't stop someone at close range with several rapid fire hits, it can certainly be fired much faster than larger calibers while there's a delay to get back on target. Worst case I'd rather go hands on with someone with nine 25 acp rounds in them than if they didn't. Great deep concealment backup pistol and much better than nothing in situations where you can't carry anything bigger.

I carry either a Beretta model 20 (25 ACP) or Beretta Tomcat (32 ACP), both loaded with hollow point ammo. They are small enough to carry without any "bulge", and both mags hold 7 rds. An added plus is the "tilt-up" barrel, which allows loading a bullet directly into the chamber without "racking" the pistol. Like the video says - "Better a 25 in the pocket, than a 45 in the glove compartment."

Get this is 2 years ago.. however.. should you ever read this dont carry hollow points. In diminutive calibers like 25 FMJ are MUCH more effective. Expansion in a 3 inch barrel or smaller gun is virtually nonexsistent. In fact it LIMITS penetration which is what you want MUCH more than expansion when firing a 50 grain bullet. Ditch the hollow points use FMJ.

My biggest handgun is a S&W 460XVR and it will cause a bit of severe damage to anyone getting shot with a 390 grain hard-cast lead projectile. Again, so what? The guy who was shot with a .25 still has the bullet inside of him and still feels it to this day. Lethality doesn't have a time frame ;). That being said, a well placed shot to the cranium would've put both of their lights out, regardless of caliber. This argument is so old, did you know that one of the biggest grizzlies in America was shot with a .22? I have the same pistol . Velocity of 50 gr fmj is usually around 750-800 fps from this pistol. Buffalo Bore now has a 50 gr fmj that exits the Beretta at 870 fps and penetrates even better.. they also offer a 55 gr hard cast fn that ru s at around d 830 fps out of the Beretta.

My go-to for deep-conceal pocket carry is a Kel-Tec P32, but my newly-acquired Beretta 950 Jetfire (1964, Italian-made) is definitely smaller and slicker, even more so than the Bobcat featured in this video. My Bauer .25, a stainless Baby Browning clone, is even smaller, but I won't carry it due to its single-action, striker-fired mechanism. I certainly won't disparage anyone who carries any of these in a responsible manner.

I accidentally/stupidly fired a .25 round (50 grain FMJ, fired from a Galesi Model 9) inside my house -- fortunately, nobody else was at home at the time. The bullet traveled @20 feet down a hallway, passed through a thick, old-style plaster wall, reinforced with horse hair, supported by a dense metal mesh, though a wooden lath, through a newer gypsum drywall panel in the next room, and lodged in the back of a bookcase adjacent to that wall. Stupid move -- I already admitted that. My point is that the penetration of the .25 bullet was shocking. I'm no expert, but in my understanding, a .22 LR fired from a comparable pistol would probably have hit the plaster wall and bounced dangerously around the hallway a bit before stopping. I don't plan on testing that out.

I have a Brazilian made 950B. The ..25 acp is a reliable feeding cartridge. A great, reliable gun at 10 ounces unloaded. Great for deep concealment at bad breath distances.
That said, my Kahr .380 is of the same weight unloaded, takes up the same general amount of space, delivering a far more powerful payload. The Kahr can be ammo sensitive due to the steep feedramp, but the use of conical bullets like the Hornady XTP remedies this.
Still, I love the Beretta 950B.

I have a question: Mr Thompson said that this gun had high lethality but llow stopping power; What does that mean exactly. I know next to nothing about guns (knife guy, Black Talon II owner) but I'd like to fix that. Is there a good website for reading up on gun terms that anyone knows of? :)

Void Whisperer with gun knowledge, youtube is a decent place to start.

    • @agroed
      @agroed 7 лет назад +5

Void Whisperer A caliber this small (along with most pistol calibers) are only going to be lethal towards the head. Anywhere else and it will take someone quite a decent time to bleed out, if they do at all, but when he's talking about lethality here, he means whether it will penetrate someone's skull or not. Stopping power is generally defined as having enough force on impact to incapacitate a human with a single shot. As far as handguns are concerned, it's something of a played-out cliche that doesn't exist in reality (at least until you get into much more powerful rounds like the .454 Casull which isn't suitable for concealed carry anyway), but people like to cling to it I assume because of movies, video games, etc. But a good place to go here on RUclips is hickok45. He's very knowledgable and makes an eclectic range of content for people who never held a gun to those of us that were born with a holster on our hip. Other than that, just search around. There are plenty of different people willing to give you plenty of different perspectives. There's always a debate going on in the community. Not exactly conducive to learning but, it is a lot of fun. Good luck though.

"Stopping power" and especially "knockdown power" are myths partially fueled by TV and cinema. The guy doing this video should have never even used the expression. I'm sure he meant that while the 25 can kill you, it might not kill you instantly if you were attacking someone that shot you with it,...that's basically what he probably meant by what you quoted he said.

    • @bubbleman2002
      @bubbleman2002 6 лет назад

How are those myths? Are you trying to tell me that if I shoot someone with 7.62x54R in the stomach they won't fall down? If I shoot someone in the stomach with a 9mm they would very likely just want to kill me more than they already did.

Thank you, Lynn Thompson! When I worked for the NRA years ago, many dozens of citizen self defense stories crossed my desk, and I can't think of a single one where it was unsuccessful. In fact, most of them ended in the deaths of the assailants. Then I read the drivel by people like Jeff Cooper saying, don't shoot bad guys-they might get mad and do you harm! Hahaha! Or,-you're better off with a fly swatter! Ha ha!
I still see crap like that, all due respect to your supurb Gunsite folder.
The problem is, people like Chairman Cooper shoot off their mouths, and people, with no working data, repeat it. I guess in a way that's good; otherwise, that little pistol you're holding (and others) would most likely be far more expensive than they are.
The 25acp is a great gun and can put a lot of lead in the air. If the gun was not efficient, we'd see far more stories of its failures.

For a small ultra compact pistol a .25 ACP is hard to beat combined with a knife. You can always manage to carry both in places where you can't a larger handgun and no knife. I always favored and have two Beretta 950BS Jetfires one in blue and the other stainless. They never jam unlike the Beretta 21A Bobcat .22LR version and are also 1 more round and smaller. I own 1 blued 21A Bobcat and 4 stainless 21A Bobcats as well. Always preferred the 950BS Jetfires in .25 ACP for self defense on humans. The .22LRs are just cheaper to shoot and for shooting vermin pests while mowing lawn and walking around on my property.

Any gun can kill. It is all about shot placement. Smaller calibers are just much more dependent on shot placement than larger calibers. I saw a guy recently who was shot by a 25 ACP. Thin guy, entered his flank on the side, passed through about 8 inches of muscle, hit a lumbar transverse process cracking it and came to rest indenting the inferior vena cava, jammed between it and the lumbar vertebral body. Knocked out a nerve root leaving him with some leg weakness, but he lived. A slightly larger caliber would have punctured the vena cava and massive bleeding might have killed him before he could get to the hospital.

Love me some Beretta Jetfire 950 in .25 acp. I have an Inox one. One thing I'm going to do with mine is stop carrying hollow points in it. Right now, I have a mix of solids and HPs, but I'm going with all solids in the future. Too much evidence out there now of relatively poor performance from a lot of hollow-point .25 acp rounds.

What's interesting (well, maybe "interesting" is the wrong word) is all this talk about "The 25/32/380 etc. is only good for a backup gun." Brother, my back up gun is either a Glock 17 in my bag or a Benelli shotgun or a rifle (take your pick) in the trunk or behind the door. My primary is usually a 9mm (Glock 43, anyone?) but sometimes its a J-frame 28 or a Seecamp .32.
Back years ago I used to carry an Iver Johnson TP 22, a cheap copy of the Walther TPH. (It also came in 25 caliber, as did the TPH) I carried Stingers in it and practiced with it a lot -- so much that I could hit paper plates at 25 yards. Got a lot of grief from guys who boasted on their 44s, 45s, etc. Half the time, though, those guns were at home in the safe or in the glove box.
Lynn is right -- it is the gun you got on you. I'll add one more to that: Sometimes it's the gun you pick up on the battlefield or at the scene of the shooting (as if there's a difference). Like Musashi said, don't have a favorite weapon; be proficient with them all.
Neat video. Now let's see a cool knife video! Haha!

My dad has a .25ACP Beretta 950 pistol next to his bed to protect him from a home invader at night.
This little pistol does indeed tick a lot of YES boxes.
    1) Low recoil = faster follow up rounds
    2) Low noise = Can use it indoors in a attack situation
    3) Low flash from the round means less chance of night blindness from the round.
My only worry would be its low "Stopping power" It produces AROUND 60 FT/LB of muzzle energy (Give or take)
Yes "on paper" this is a great gun.. But what if the home invader ALSO has a gun. WOULD YOU BET YOUR LIFE you could drop the home invader before he shot you ONCE with his .44 S&W magnum revolver?
I myself use a .410 shotgun as my night time go "Grab gun" It has CLOSE RANGE "Knock down" power to STOP the attacker in his tracks. My home is small so the attacker would not be more than 7-8 Yards away from me inside my home. Just have a look at what a .410 shotgun does at 7-8 Yards away! With the correct ammo.
Yes I 100% agree this pistol is better than nothing..
But it would not be my first choice..
Shot placement is everything.. But "Knock down" power is also important.. You have to STOP the attacker in there tracks. Before they can get "The bite" on you with THERE gun.
Great video .. Thank you for this upload.

When a .25 ACP was first introduced, a minor wound could be deadly due to lack of antibiotics.

25 acp and 32 acp are the silent killers that 9mm and .45 acp wish they could be. Bigger is not always better!

22 long rifle and caliber pistols in 25 auto, carried them for a back up,but also they have a purpose against rapid animals that sometimes we have to stop and they were excellent for those situations,?our normal carry sidearm was a 357 magnum caliber revolver, but a 32 ,25 , 22 caliber was adequate

I want a damn full sized .25 ACP, with double stack 30 rounds mags.

The folks who live and harp on capacity should be clamoring for such a gun...and a full size .25 could maybe hold 40+ double stacked...hmm...

Any gun is fine more nearly 90% of situations. Getting robbed, breakins, bullies. All close quarter stuff. The average thug doesn't know weapons well and the sound of any gun will back them down and all will be afraid of getting hit. No criminal says "haha thats a 25 caliber, let me just walk right thru it"... I just hate these gun buff asshole comments. A 25 will kill you, and no one wants to get shot period.

If I were attacked 3 times and had to use a pistol all 3 times I would not be relying on a .25acp, not saying it won't do the job, but 3 times you relied on it?

Test with longer barrels are really interresting ( use a 3'1/3 pistol for replace classic 6cm 2"1/3 1906 /baby barrel) and u gain lot of power.....imagine 85 Ft/lbs in a 25 acp round !!! Its totally different than a short barrel delivery 55 ft /lbs
