Hey everyone! So one of our mics are in for repair since it was giving us problems, so we only have the one for now. We'll make it work! For the time being we'll have to change our format a little to accommodate that.
Julian Schuetze Hey, do you guys have any videos on basic rapier form? I’m looking for material for a younger sibling.
ruclips.net/video/wBs4mBsEdes/видео.html - The lunge
ruclips.net/video/OhR-N1O3xyg/видео.html - Basics of the dagger
ruclips.net/video/Qn8BOJf9hSY/видео.html - Leading with the point (This video isn't rapier centric, but there's a lot to take out of it.)
Julian Schuetze Not a bad format honestly
How old does someone have to be to join HEMA?
Blood and Iron HEMA Oh cool. Thanks lots!
This is awesome thank you! Sorry I never saw the response to my message! You answered my question perfectly none the less and the last trick is a fun one!
Yes! This is such an important concept when bouting/ building techniques/ drilling. Simple, compound, and complex actions! Generally compound defeats simple, complex defeats compound, and simple bests complex.
matt maughan that's an excellent way of describing it. We may steal that for the future :)
Blood and Iron HEMA haha sure go ahead! Love the channel btw keep up the great quality of work!
For HEMA I mostly do Huscarl (early medieval stuff, so basically guesswork based on findings and maybe some exaggerated Saga accounts and no treatises), but I found the high guard/attack you present with the rapier useful for one more thing - often the opponent is not looking that high, trying to read the body more, so they often don't see it coming ;) Especially useful for cutting with a dane axe, or thrusting with a one handed spear.
Thanks, rapier was enjoyable to watch!
i'm hyped for double-wielding
No double-wielding here ;)
goddamnit, clickbait
Not sure if /s, but realistically since there's no dual wielding in the thumbnail, and there's both techniques for Longsword and the Rapier, what would be the best way to word it so it doesn't come off as disingenuous clickbait?
I dont thonk it was really clickbait but I do admit that if it were I would fall because rapier plus longsword sounds fun
You guys, 8mm not being serious
The legends say that if you comment soon enough u/Blood and Iron HEMA. Will respond!
We usually try and respond to comments at any point! Usually it depends how busy we all are :)
Ah, i was just joking but good work and thanks :)
I read an article about the distance from which most people fence. It said that because people fence so close together, it allows a lot more double hits than would be "the norm," so to speak. It also stated that by fencing from a distance that requires two passing steps to get within range of your opponent, you can more easily assess the situation. It also fits in with the concept of "left foot forward," because you step with the left first, then step with the right and attack then. What are your thoughts on this?
(Sorry for the long-winded question)
I am new to this channel. What is the name and brand of the training Rapiers, used in this video please?
Will we see Richard Marsden vs. B&I students/instructors with longsword some day? Just curious.
Yeah we can see what we can do next time he's over.
I am not a sword expert. With your example at 5:30, when the opponent is telegraphing the cut to the legs... doesn't your counter leave the legs open regardless? What I mean is that, looking at it with untrained eyes, in an actual fight, I predict a simultaneous exchange- the attacker can get in his cut, and the defender absolutely skewers the attacker. It seems risky. Of course, I can't really tell- maybe the counter is much, much faster in a real-time situation???
Tyler Pulkkinen What ends up happening is that when you roll the sword up to Prime like Nicole does, it catches the flat of Julian's sword and ends up breaking his structure. Her thrust would land and Julian's sword would be trapped not allowing to continue his original intention of rolling up and then cutting. This is of course if you are training to actually thrust with a rapier, and aren't just going for a light touch.
+Tyler Pulkkinen
It's hard to change your intention as fast as it takes your opponent to step in and skewer you. That's not to say there's no way to counter it, you just have to be fast to see it coming change your approach.
Did he say that the first question came from Eric Cartman?
Christ Nicole, is there anything you DO like?
