Wouldn't end a fight but useful. I would think the face/eyes would be the target, even if you miss initially they may overreact and create another opening?
plyable? rapiers are one of the most ridged swords there is, your thinking of a epee used in Olympic fencing. All the cuts I mentioned are totally possible with a rapier, you don't need to cleave someone's skull in half or chop them from the collar bone to the heart to kill them with a cut.
@@silentspace7201 Rapier could have quite thrust centric narrow blade with poor cutting capability. But if you aim your cut for wrists, neck or face it will distract your enemy enough to follow with more dangerous stab. If your rapier has better blade for cutting, it is different situation, of course.
Not only may they overreact, they may be blinded by blood. As someone who has had a fair share of mishaps I can tell you head and scalp wounds bleed like crazy. A cut to the head or face with a sword could well blind an opponent, with blood, beside being very painful, and thereby create an opening to run them through... Probably depends a lot on the type of rapier the training sword is simulating though. Historically most could cut but there were a lot of variations and I think some of the later cuphilt ones especially were really narrow not good for cutting...
Here is video of a man cutting a full tatami mat from the wrist with a rapier ruclips.net/video/R-l-tlePjPk/видео.html not the elbow or shoulder but the wrist using a minimum of force. I believe you are underestimating the rapiers's cutting ability. You cut with edge not the flat of any blade and that very long blade does have a lot of mass and leverage, the longer the lever the greater the tip speed. While it requires more skill as a wider flat can self correct for edge alignment to a degree I believe the rapier can cut as well as an arming sword.
That's Philip Martin. He's a pretty awesome guy, a beast of a cutter (medals in just about every cutting tournament he enters), and something of a friend of Blood and Iron if I'm remembering it correctly.
then what do you think the diffrence would be if the tip of a rapier would hit the cheek of one person or say the tip of a sabre hit the cheek. same force aplied to both swords.
Rapiers are not able to generate enough force to chop a target. However, as they say in the video, the blades can cut deeply if drawn in a slicing motion. ruclips.net/video/IVPLaPvW10Q/видео.html
@Exploatores Rapiers are in fact good cutters, as Silent Space has pointed out. If your priority really is to split people in half (a la zombie apocalypse chaos), why not just use a wood-cutting ax or even a chain saw instead of a sword all together?
mark steven, it doesn’t matter what you fight with. It’s all about who you are and your style. A back sword or staff could be used by the more manly, yes, but rapiers echo a gentlemanly sense of finesse.
I know I’m late but what is this mentality of “sword with beef equals manliness while rapiers and those that are slender are unmanly”, majority of the those who used rapiers during its hay day were men, in both combat and civilian. It was a sword of fashion you’d often see in portraits during the Renaissance and early modern period artworks of famous figures and cavaliers. Furthermore women at that time at a general census didn’t take interest in combat or weren’t even allowed into one. So how is the rapier a “uNmAnLy wEaPoN” if it’s predominantly used by men??! It’s a bloody weapon! Weapons has no genders!
Good video. I know nothing about rapier fighting and I found it easy to understand the lessons put forth.
Could you guys talk about the difference between rapier and sidesword for cutting and thrusting?
today's video brought to you by the generous donations of Count Dooku
Good lesson about feeling the blade and getting your opponent to power your cut, same goes for sabre in seconde guard, it's a good tactic.
I would love to see the difference between the repose cut with sabre,
compared to the cut and thrust of the rapier.
Was that thibault stance in the beginning hint of Videos to come? He asked filled with hope.
Now I can be Silver Chariot for the next Halloween
this music is really hypnotic
while being an actress beauty she is a hell of an excellent teacher in this art. love to have her as my teacher.

Great video as always, but what I really want to know is what sound track are you using, and where can I get a copy??
This is a good video. Thank you.

AKlover pretty sure lopping your hand off at the wrist, slashing your neck open and severing arteries and tendons have a way if ending fights.
@@silentspace7201 Rapists are distinguished by long thin plyable blades and NOT cutting.

no stabby-stabby? ;-)
4:15 dont aim for the sword
It was a beat attack, you sometimes have to aim for the sword.
so rapier good cut will not work if there is tight clothing. This is a wrong cutting blow. With all respect.
So isn´t cuting with an rapier more of a insult then a danger to hurt the oponent.
Exploatores its a handle with a 3 foot long 2 pound razor blade on the end...

Srsly? :D false edge cut into leg with rapier... guys... c'mon .... :D
yes no true fight with out both cut and thrust , use a Back sword or a staff weapon Rapiers are for the unmanly

You just made the most ignorant and dumb-ass comment I've seen in quite a while. Congrats on your epic fail.
