I have a variation of the Rawlings product and I amazed my daughters when I showed them I could catch all types of thrown balls without a glove. Although, I understand more of the importance of the transfer. Will take that into training this upcoming season.

@19gundy As a catcher myself, I really don't think it would be a good idea to not catch the ball before you attempt your transfer. With the risk of foul tips or even a bad read on the ball there is too much of a risk for injury. I think they do have a catcher's training mitt on their website though.

Yes, great for catchers when practicing tag plays at the plate as it reinforces using two hands to tag as well as the transfer of the ball to the throwing hand prior to the tag, be sure to tag with the back of the glove. It can also be used for force plays at the plate, helps with quick transfer and throw to first. Can also be used for catchers doing bunt drills where the ball is moving, this reinforces using two hands to field the bunts which eliminates bobbled balls on bunts. Also can be used for tennis ball pop flies, once again helps to use both hands when fielding the foul balls or pop flies. Especially good for training those low pop flies that you chase out in front of the plate that you have to dive for, these ultimately need to be fielded palm up with two hands or the ball will tend to spin out of the glove. I have also used it with youth players as a receiving progression that teaches them to receive the corners with the palm facing in towards the plate. Balls are not caught but deflected in toward the plate teaching them to keep their hands outside the ball as well as soft hands. This glove can also be used to do blocking drills, especially useful when you have a players that tries to catch the balls during blocking drills. This glove will put an end to that quickly as you can't catch the ball with the throwing hand behind the pancake glove.
