I grew up learning about the Ultimate Universe because of Ultimate Spider-Man. It was inevitable for the Ultimate Universe to return but with changces to our favorite Marvel characters. Ultimate Invasion was a new beginning for the heroes of the Ultimate Universe, but they had to find their purpose in a world ruled by Tyranny and Order at the hands of the Maker. Of course, this led to the start of four comic runs in this new Ultimate Universe, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, The Ultimates, and Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man. Now we're getting a Ultimate Universe one-shot known as Ultimate Universe: One Year in, because Ultimate Wolverine will make his return in the Ultimate Universe. Other than that, it looks like the Ultimate Universe's future is looking bright. ULTIMATELY. It's only a matter of time before the heroes of 6160 meet the heroes of 616 in a crossover of Marvel vs Ultimate Marvel. And Ultimate Resurgence would be a perfect title for the comic. • Ultimate Resurgence #1-9 • Ultimate Resurgence: Avengers vs Ultimates #1-6 • Ultimate Resurgence: X-Men vs Ultimate X-Men #1-5 • Ultimate Resurgence: Amazing Spider-Man vs Ultimate Spider-Man #1-7 • Ultimate Resurgence: Miles Morales Spider-Man #1-6 • Ultimate Resurgence: Wolverine vs Ultimate Wolverine #1-5 • Ultimate Resurgence: Fantastic Four #1-5 • Ultimate Resurgence: Incredible Hulk #1-7
You know I grew up with ultimate Universe too and the problem with ultimate invasion in this new version of the ultimates is that it's not the ultimate universe it's the makers universe it's a random Marvel Universe that's on the same trajectory as Earth 616 except for the maker interfered kind of like how Dr Manhattan interfered in the DC Universe which gave us a new 52 the problem is at least with that one is everything is completely changed and different but when you come to this new Ultimate universe is literally the same look and feel of 616 except for oh now people are starting to wake up and realize like hey this went wrong which is kind of completely not what the ultimate universe was which was supposed to be a modern retake of these characters Yeah you got some characters that have some of the ultimate costumes but for the most part everybody is feeling more like they're 616 selves then they're 1610 cells which we know that 1610 is still out there on its own so it's kind of like why y'all just kind of didn't just go back to 1610 instead of trying to say that this is the ultimate universe when it's really not the ultimate Universe its the makers universe
@@treymykel yeah, Spirit of Paradox has the same fact about this as well. Jack Fisher from his channel, Jack's World said this New Ultimate Universe is a different from the old one because there so much issues with the state of 1610, despite Miles Morales's popularity. I mean, readers disliked Kitty Pryde being the face of the Ultimate X-Men comics after Ultimatum, and not many people knew about Jimmy Hudson besides myself.
Today I discovered your channel and I LOVE IT. I’m going to watch each one of your videos until I catch up, starting with this one! I see a lot of love for Hickman and The Maker... this is my place.
Loved this breakdown! I felt similar to you when reading Invasion initially so I'll definitely take your advice and go back and reread it now seeing how it impacted this new universe.
It's nice to look back on this comic now that we have a year's worth of the new ultimate universe to analyze along with it, I remember being pretty confused when I read this comic and not even really paying attention to it that much, was just kinda like "oh cool they're doing the ultimate universe again, can't wait to read spiderman"
That moment in issue 3 of Ultimate Invasion when someone commented something to the effect that the future pushes back when you try changing the past, and then all these clones of heroes start falling from the sky. That blew my mind the first time the first time i read it.
I was fascinated by this world's alternative history from the start, even though Ultimate Invasion may be a dense beginning for new readers. The Council functioning essentially as the Maker's Illuminati makes them a compelling group of antagonists. They remind me of Metal Gear's Patriots. Hickman and the other writers (Specially Camp) created a very well-constructed world so far. Each book plays a different role. Spider-Man is essentially a revamp of a usual origin story and standard superheroics plus an investigation tone with Ben and Jonah's subplot. Ultimates has higher stakes and scale as it focus on a widespread resistance effort. Black Panther mixes influences from Dune and MCU to still tell a compelling story while still feeling fresh. And X-Men may be the most experimental of them due to the horror/manga tone. I compare it to some runs of the New Mutants.
I also like how all series are set in a different part of the world, so they can breathe without messing too much with the other. Just the clock in The Ultimates remain. I'm really curious what will append when the maker will return in 2026.
@@fralambert8377 Yes. The Ultimates has a lot of merit in taking the worldbuilding further and it may be the most important book so far in regards to the war against the Council and in preparing for the return of the Maker. I wonder if 616 will play any role as Miles has that blank card and the Illuminati are wary of the Maker's escape.
Excellent video the ultimate relaunch has been a breath of fresh air great writing great art all of it is good. I'm excited for what's next like ultimate wolverine
The Maker is such a great villain for the comics and really feels like a better execution of everything The Batman Who Laughs was trying to be for DC Comics
I’m loving the Ultimate Universe so far. It’s a breath of fresh air and Ultimate Spider-Man is the best thing to happen to the character in decades but Ultimates might be my favourite comic currently. It’s deep, thought provoking and is fascinating. I believe we are a year away from the Makers return so in 2025 I fully expect we see Peter in the Ultimates, a new Fantastic Four, AI Venom, Harry’s heel turn and much more. We’ve set up all the parts this year and next year is where it’s all going to explode for the end of the year and going into 2026
You focused a lot on the metatextual commentary which I didn’t pick up much on myself, so thank you for that. But there’s also a whole political shift with the Maker taking over. This is not a world where the heroes work to maintain the status quo against villains, it’s one where evil is the status quo and most of the world doesn’t know it, ignorantly living their lives in bliss. Howard, and then Tony’s role has been to reveal that vast conspiracy to the world. The heroes are the underdogs. Camp seems to be the most interested in exploring this and using it to criticize systems of power, including our real ones, using this framework. Ultimate Spider-Man is getting there in its own way. I think that’s also why the Absolute DC stuff if equally compelling yet feels like a bit of a ripoff… now there’s a world based on “Darkseid energy” that’s essentially a powerful villain shaping it in his image, and we follow the new heroes as they try to set things right. Exact same premise, but it’s such a good one.
The Maker has gotten me back into comics again. Been reading everything i can about the guy. The ultimates has been hit or (major) miss each issue so far tho. Hoping they get more consistent
The new ultimate universe got me into buying monthly comics. Now with DC All-In, I’m pulling much more DC, but I still look forward to every Ultimate book and I’m excited for the addition of Ultimate Wolverine.
Does anyone else wonder what Donny Cates version of the Ultimate Universe relaunch would have been like? Just by reading through his venom run, it felt obvious that he wanted to bring back the original Ultimate Universe. He foreshadowed it’s return a lot and it seems that Marvel originally wanted him to be architect for the relaunch before they brought in Jonathan Hickman. Since then the only thing we know about 1610 is that the Maker returned home but it’s in ruins. I do remember when Ultimate Invasion was announced it was pitched as 1610 invading 616. It sucks that we might not know what could have been, but I hope Donny Cates is doing better and he can return to comics someday.
I am really liking this new iteration of the ultimate universe, a lot of thought put into it without the shock factor and unnecessary edginess of its predecesor.
We've already got the comics, at this point there's really no reason to want motion adaptations of like 90% of comics when the comics are gonna be the objectively best version of those stories. There are very few exceptions
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 I get that I’m just greedy and want to see animated adaptations of the new Ultimate Spider-Man or an anime about the Ultimate X-Men
Ultimate invasion sounds like Marvel's version of flashpoint and (ironically (or not, perhaps on purpose)) DC's Absolute sounds like their version of the Ultimates. At least superficially. And using Howard Stark may have been their version of Thmas Wayne's Batman.
As a time travel merd who read and reread the issue where Maker is attacked by clones of the Ultimates, this is how I interpreted it: the Ultimates still never existed, and Kang was not accessing them. The reason why Maker coild kill those random people and erase the Ultimates clones from existence is because they are the descendants of the people who *would have been* the Ultimates’ ancestors. I think. Lol.
I'm only reading the Spider-Man title, but, interestingly, all this stuff is under the layers. Mark a good world-building. You can go with just the title (I can afford, damn the cost of comics, lol) or take in larger picture by buying in on more of the comics. But I haven't had any trouble understanding in broad strokes what's going on just reading Spider-Man.
The Maker from the old Ultimate Marvel Universe traveling to a new. universe ignoring what happened in the Venom comic. Ultimate Marvel had a great ending in Spider Men II it felt like a proper goodbye. The Venom comic and Ultimate Invasion undermined Bendis and Bagley’s goodbye to the old Ultimate universe.
Haven't finished the video, so I'm not sure if they address it, but the new Ultimate Kang is definitely Tony right? The Iron Lad suit has the face lines and I can't think of anyone else that would elicit that reaction from Howard
maybe a spoiler, but one issue of this universe version of the avengers (the ultimates) goes so tragicaly hard they put a comic strip of deadpool in the middle because of how dark it is
Thanks for posting this video. I’ve been hearing great things about this new iteration, but reinforces this is not for me. I loved the original Ultimate Universe, but its #1 draw was the fact it was divorced from continuity. It was a small investment into a family of titles or you could focus on one, like Ultimate Spider-man. This has Marvel’s weight of continuity and I don’t want it anymore. Pass for me.
Marvel bringing back the ultimate marvel universe was a great idea and makes me so happy to see ultimate Spider-Man make a return and ten times better then the current amazing Spider-Man which is freaking garbage in my opinion.
TBH, beyond Spiderman I never thought that the Ultimate Universe had that much to give. It seemed to have one idea "Turn everyone into some combination of fascist, cannibal, wife beater or rapist while turning their costumes into barely identifiable mid 00s street wear sludge"
I mean ultimate Universe is okay it's not as good as the original universe but I really wish they didn't call it ultimate Universe I don't like the fact that they're using the name but then if you're not even going to go back to 1610 and you're going to 6160 it should have been called the makers universe cuz that's what it is it is the makers universe it's not the ultimate universe and that's to me is a baffling problem and the fact that they left one ultimate character just linger out there as if people forgot Well people did forget but I didn't forget Jimmy Hudson Jimmy Hudson was tossed into the main continuity after the events of secret wars and then you get the time traveling X-Men when he joined X-Men Blue and yet don't nobody know where Jimmy at because he winning the space because he got stuck with the a venom host or whatever which I think the makers should have went to him as well it's not more of a fresh take on the ultimate universe is just another take on what will happen if the Marvel characters never became the Marvel characters that's really what this is so far it's meddling at best nothing's really happening and that's a problem with Jonathan Hickman story that sometimes he's setting up stuff for so long that after a while a couple of months into this still ain't nothing happened yet and I know they're trying to set up for this event but I would love for the comic books to start doing something because so far from what I'm reading nothing's really happening of any importance.
I don’t want to call it a revival because it wasn’t revived just replaced not really that because it not 1610 but it’s probably for the best because some of the original ultimate story’s were pretty messed up
The one thing I'll say about the new UU that I don't like is that it has made non comic-reading spider-man fans who like to pretend they know things about the comics even more insufferable as they have a whole new universe to not actually read where their vision of spider-man has finally been realized and... I mean it's fine, but for a Hickman Chechetto book, USM just isn't as good as it should/could be. Hickman absolutely has still got it with books like AVA and G.O.D.S. but USM is just nothing special writing-wise, it's really held up by the art and the concept
I think it's too soon to dismiss USM as being simply basic while Hickman is still setting up plotlines to be resolved soon. I think it has potential, specially with a certain issue coming up.
If Im being COMPLETELY honest im not the biggest fan of this new Ultimate Universe and how different it is from earth 616, I know that the whole point of the/a ultimate is to reimagin some of our favorite characters and do unique things that earth 616 would never be able to but at the time it just feels too different. like the original 1610 universe was different but never to the point of this new earth 6160 and changes like Peter getting bit in his 30s as an adult/father, Captain America was at first never found in modern day, Teenage/Young Adult Iron-Man, DD just being Blind without powers, certain x-men/avengers members being full blown villains etc. im still gonna read and buy their comics but im hoping that after this new ultimate universe ends it gets rebooted and we a new Ultimate Universe that's a little more in line with earth 616 but still doing its own thing. (or heck just bring back Earth-1610 lol)

And
Ultimate Resurgence would be a perfect title for the comic.
• Ultimate Resurgence #1-9
• Ultimate Resurgence: Avengers vs Ultimates #1-6
• Ultimate Resurgence: X-Men vs Ultimate X-Men #1-5
• Ultimate Resurgence: Amazing Spider-Man vs Ultimate Spider-Man #1-7
• Ultimate Resurgence: Miles Morales Spider-Man #1-6
• Ultimate Resurgence: Wolverine vs Ultimate Wolverine #1-5
• Ultimate Resurgence: Fantastic Four #1-5
• Ultimate Resurgence: Incredible Hulk #1-7
I'm loving the new Ultimate universe so far man
Today I discovered your channel and I LOVE IT. I’m going to watch each one of your videos until I catch up, starting with this one! I see a lot of love for Hickman and The Maker... this is my place.
Welcome aboard! Hickman is one of my all-time favourite writers, and The Maker (and Reed Richards is general) is one of my favourite characters.
Loved this breakdown! I felt similar to you when reading Invasion initially so I'll definitely take your advice and go back and reread it now seeing how it impacted this new universe.
The new Ultimate universe it's so good so far, I hope they manage to keep this quality
Been looking forward to this. Awesome job!
Hope you enjoyed it!
Excellent video the ultimate relaunch has been a breath of fresh air great writing great art all of it is good. I'm excited for what's next like ultimate wolverine
great video man on the revival on ultimate marvel universe.
The Maker is such a great villain for the comics and really feels like a better execution of everything The Batman Who Laughs was trying to be for DC Comics
He is more like a copy of Alexander Luthor Jr from Infinite Crisis.
The best Reed Richards is the worst Reed Richards, THE MAKER is one of the best comic book SuperVillains of all-time.
@@benparrish672 Is a Villain Sue.
Love love love this channel
Every issue of The Ultimates has been a banger! Issue 4 should win an Eisner
The maker is so goddamn awesome
New Ultimate Universe is the first line of comics I’m reading issue by issue. Love it Thus far
The Maker and DOOM are THE greatest Marvel villains
Epic video
the disrespect 5:00 you forgot about Jimmy Hudson.
I know, I slighted Jimmy just like the Maker did in issue #1 😔
It’s so early but I hope hope hope in the future we get animated shows/movies of this new Ultimate universe it’s so good 😭😭
We've already got the comics, at this point there's really no reason to want motion adaptations of like 90% of comics when the comics are gonna be the objectively best version of those stories. There are very few exceptions
@@apersonwhomayormaynotexist9868 I get that I’m just greedy and want to see animated adaptations of the new Ultimate Spider-Man or an anime about the Ultimate X-Men
New Ultimate Universe >>>>> Old Ultimate Universe
Ultimate invasion sounds like Marvel's version of flashpoint and (ironically (or not, perhaps on purpose)) DC's Absolute sounds like their version of the Ultimates. At least superficially. And using Howard Stark may have been their version of Thmas Wayne's Batman.
The maker is my favourite version of reed
The new Ultimate Black Panther looks interesting
The Maker from the old Ultimate Marvel Universe traveling to a new. universe ignoring what happened in the Venom comic. Ultimate Marvel had a great ending in Spider Men II it felt like a proper goodbye. The Venom comic and Ultimate Invasion undermined Bendis and Bagley’s goodbye to the old Ultimate universe.
Do a video On John Byrnes Man Of Steel Miniseries
Haven't finished the video, so I'm not sure if they address it, but the new Ultimate Kang is definitely Tony right? The Iron Lad suit has the face lines and I can't think of anyone else that would elicit that reaction from Howard
Just like the Marvel editorial, The Maker forgot all about Jimmy Hudson.
maybe a spoiler, but one issue of this universe version of the avengers (the ultimates) goes so tragicaly hard they put a comic strip of deadpool in the middle because of how dark it is
Thanks for posting this video.
I like this
Is iron lad actually Kang?
Marvel bringing back the ultimate marvel universe was a great idea and makes me so happy to see ultimate Spider-Man make a return and ten times better then the current amazing Spider-Man which is freaking garbage in my opinion.
I always preferred Ultimate Spider-Man over 616 Spider-Man
I still like the original ultimate universe ending
It's about millennials striving to go back to a more innocent time...and also a critique on reboots and if they are actually worth it....
I don’t want to call it a revival because it wasn’t revived just replaced not really that because it not 1610 but it’s probably for the best because some of the original ultimate story’s were pretty messed up
👀
I know Man, it's been a long time coming.
Hey would you wanna be on my podcast?
I hate the Maker's helmet.. looks stupid and goofy
This is exactly how I feel about the new Ultimate fans.
I'm curious, where are this ultimate spiderman fans? Ive only heard about old fans who are happy for this change.
Please make a video explaining how "Wokeness" became a part of comics and what are it's effects 🙏🏻
yeah that's probably not going to happen, unfortunately
@@OwenLikesComics well that's sad thanks for replying btw :)
Wokeness? What are you talking about?
You know Owen isn't anti-woke, yeah?
What a dipshit request
Owen Idk if you realized but your guest adding nothing,he simply said "yes,right,uh-huh" and then dragged out your first point of the video. It was distracting and useless. You are the reason we watch the channel..not some incoherent rando
this is why everything is timecoded - I thought that chat with Aeric was worth including and contributed to the video's thesis, but it it's not doing anything for you just skip forward.
