      This is a super late reply but absolutely the same. I thought I just didn't meet every single criteria for bipolar and that meant that doctors just didn't want to listen to me about it, but nope! I found out about bpd and now it all makes sense

    My moods change so much. I'm either feeling really good or really bad and this can change within minutes. I'm doing fine, then the painful emptiness comes in. I do get angry and snap at times but it's not often. I have self harmed too. I get urges to drink and self harm. I'm always panicking inside that nothing is real and almost had a panic attack thinking and feeling like my mind was floating away from me. I don't manipulate people, I tend to cut everyone off. I'm either at one of two extremes: really wanting to socialise and loving life/myself or hating myself and cutting everyone off. I change what I want to do and what I think about things all the time. I don't even recognise myself in the mirror or feel like I'm in my own body. I don't feel like I have my own personality and just pick up vibes off people and absorb their personality.
    I've been diagnosed with bipolar 2 and ASD (autism spectrum disorder). I'm not sure to what extent the above is due to the ASD because there may be overlap between ASD and borderline (or so I've read) and I'm really confused.

      It's probably BPD. Telling factors are that you have a continuous lack of a sense of self/feelings of emptiness, the severity of your emotional shifts and psychotic ideations(nothing is real). You can get through it, regardless.

      The thing with not recognising yourself in the mirror is so awful, til one or two years ago I had it almost my entire life. And I didn't felt myself. And til today I don't know who I am, in a lost way.
      And my first therapeut wouldn't believe me. Because according to the bookks you CAN'T have some symptoms til a certain age. Bullshit.

    The absolute best part of Kati's videos is that she always says we... Never you, or they, we... she's including herself in each and every one of these situations, showing us we are not alone, and that there are people who get us, and care for us, and genuinely understand what we are going through. ❤ I just think that's incredible.

    In 2009, at age 36, I was diagnosed as borderline for the first time. A few times in my life earlier bipolar was mentioned but never stuck. The next 2 years were some of the most awful times in my life and I had suicidal thoughts nearly everyday, part of that was guilt and shame because I couldn't control my mood, thoughts, and actions like most with bpd can at least somewhat learn to do with proper treatment. Thankfully in 2011, bpd was disproved and bipolar was proven by my having my first truly manic episode. In the aftermath of this I was able to learn that everything was not my fault. There was a massive guilt shift from myself to illness. Later that year I was committed to a long term state hospital for the first and so far only time. It was there that it was uncovered that along with bipolar I also have a somewhat unique case of ocd as well. This revelation was at first comforting, but then got terrifying as I learned only partially about ocd and that I was doomed with unwanted obsessions that tell me I'm not ok and won't be ok that lead to a suicide compulsion temptation. I did go on to have my first and only suicide attempt at that time. Very thankfully, more education about both ocd and bipolar came through over a year of intense psycho therapy and life has been much better since. The right diagnosis leads to the right treatment the right diagnosis, which in psychiatry is a very inexact science, very valuable but sometimes hard to obtain. It was somewhere in the neighborhood of my 30th psychiatric hospitalization that bipolar stuck and my 31st that ocd became clear. Keep trying like I did until you find true help. Your life is worth it. You are worth it. You deserve it.

      Mark Barkley I'm so sorry to hear of your ordeal & diagnosis. I can certainly relate though. For me, as with many posting/commenting on this feed, I also had many diagnosis. I now believe my diagnosis at this time is only half my diagnosis, I believe I do have some form (if this is even possible) of BPD. I had been given the diagnosis of BPD on many occasions & for a number of reasons BPD was taken off the table not only by me, but also by psych Dr.'s. I am inclined to believe I have BPD along with other diagnosis. Again if there is even such a thing I am on the border of mild BPD to moderate BPD. I say this because (one of my diagnosis is chronic/major depression) I am on a couple of meds for this, prior to and in my early stages of depression, I seem to have symptoms of BPD, which seems to progress as my depression gets worse. My psych Dr. tells me I am in remission, though I believe this, as I haven't felt this good in so very long...I feel like something within me hasn't really gone into remission & this truly scares me...
      This is the first time I have (in a sense) said this out loud or even said this to anyone...
      Feeling this way scares & worries me. I just keep having a feeling of doom or being crushed...Do I really need to know or want to know I have BPD? Any feedback? Please by all means feel free to give me your feedback...Thanks!

      What's a manic episode ?

  • @aliciascat9433
    @aliciascat9433 7 лет назад +120

    Most people with BPD are told they have Bipolar because Drs are scared of telling people they have BPD. People don't realise that the manic and episodes of Bipolar can each last for weeks at a time. I like to say that the emotions of someone with BPD can go up and down within one day or even one hour and the manic or depressive episodes of Bipolar generally last for weeks at a time. Eg pure mania lasting for one whole month, then the 'crash' the depressive episode lasting for one month. Its over simplified but I think that's how most people find it easier to understand. Thanks for the video 🤓❤️

    Can you do one comparing ADHD and bipolar disorder? My therapist thinks I am bipolar, but I have been diagnosed ADD with anxiety/depression for most of my life.

    • @cellogirl11rw55
      @cellogirl11rw55 8 лет назад +23

      The main differences between the two is that, with ADHD, your mood is elevated most of the time, whereas with bipolar disorder, your moods fluctuate a lot, and the fluctuations can be severe. When you're manic, you have a lot of energy like you have ADHD, but that is usually accompanied by an elevated sense of self, a decreased need for sleep, a decreased appetite, irritability, anxiety, paranoia, euphoria, and sometimes even a psychotic break. With ADHD, you just have a lot of energy, along with an inability to focus for long periods of time, trouble with memory, and anxiety. Also, stimulants tend to make bipolar disorder worse, while making ADHD better.

      I was misdiagnoses with bipolar... I am high functioning autistic with ADD. ADHD/ADD/ASD are a neurological chemical /disorder/ diversities and bipolar is a mood disorder /chemical imbalance. There is no mood relevance to ADHD just your brain works overtime and cant slow down and concentrate and sensory processing can be apart which you can seek sensory stimuli or avoid. I find I avoid more but that's more from my Austim then ADD which creates a melt down after being stimulated becoming hypoactive this is why I was missed diagnosed my doctors ignored my business partners letter and only heard what they wanted to here. 9/10 years later I put in there faces my ASD diagnoses but I was diagnoses with Bipolar and ADD and I just couldn't see how I could be both, I have no mood for my Ritalin to irritate and now my physiatrist has seen that he's taken my bipolar diagnoses back. 80% of autistic girls are misdiagnosed with bipolar.. And given the wrong medications and type therapy.

I'll suddenly decide to move city/country and ditch my job/house, become a fitness health freak and change my style. The depression always comes, and then I move on again. I can't seem to get a straight answer from any provider. One said there was nothing wrong with me (because I showed up on time and I was nicely dressed and well spoken) and I just needed to get a nice job. Another said I have BPD. The next said Bipolar and those two providers ended up having a fight about it via memos and me. The last one I saw said that I could have both, but took something I said out of context and completely threw out the BPD part (even though I tried to correct the misunderstanding). It's just a huge mess where I'd like to know what is really going on, but it just gets more and more tangled up.

      That's one of the reasons why I'm reluctant to see a psychiatrist to finally have a proper diagnosis. I'm currently following a therapy with a psychologue because I was diagnosed with clinical depression a few years ago but I feel there's something more.I think whatever I do, nothing can make things better and maybe knowing what the problem really is may help me? IDK. :(

    • @SelinaDelaney
      @SelinaDelaney 8 лет назад +5

      Actually, when it was brought up, it was me that asked about it, which surprised the psychiatrist that was helping me at the time. He had gone over my whole history and, coupled with our meetings, was leaning towards it. I only brought it up because of a random book I picked up in the biography section of the library. The author was writing about her experience with BPD and a couple of chapters in I felt like lightning had struck. However, I was also seeing a counselor at the time who was convinced that I didn't have it and that I am bipolar...which I can see. I don't have the same feeling about it, but I know where he was coming from. Then he and the psychiatrists at the other office got into their memo fight and I just refused to be involved with that.

    Bpd techinically has mood episodes too though, it's just that they're much shorter than bipolar mood episodes. Borderlines can feel depressed for a few hours, then overly angry and irritable for an hour, then basically manic or hypomanic for a couple hours, etc. The difference is that bpd moods last minutes to hours whereas bipolar moods last weeks to months.

      Nicolette James there actually is such thing as rapid cycling with bipolar where you have more than 4 interchangeable episodes within a year. So it could be possible to be mad for a day, then be happy the next, even sad an hour later, then become happy again. It just depends on the person.

      also with BPD your mood can be set off extremely easily and then once you're in a bad mood it's hard to get out of it. but it usually goes back to baseline within a few hours. idk I feel like a lot of people who are diagnosed with bipolar actually have BPD because doctors/therapists just think moodiness equals bipolar. so untrue!!!!! and they are scared to diagnose BPD because of stigma. it's sad

    I'm a borderline, 3 years into actual diagnosis, and also have bipolar friends. since most people don't know what bpd is, but have heard of bipolar....I've always had to explain bpd as a "Rapid fire version of bipolar" where you have the manic, hypo manic and depressive episodes, only they cycle much more erraticly and with little to no warning whatsoever. Ofcourse I understand the two are different, but it gives the person an idea of the illness without having to give them a complete lesson.

    Thank you so much for the videos! definitely the most helpful ones on RUclips. Its been really hard for me to figure out what i had. Ive always had problems since i was younger, being as ive had a pretty bad childhood. When i was 15 i was doing DBT for borderline but i dont think i was officially diagnosed. i didnt get through much of it. Then it went from dissociative disorder snd bipolar. My symptoms kept getting worse over the years..i was literally going insane..i was seeing things..i was paranoid and always crying and getting more and more aggressive. my thoughts were...disturbing to say the least. literally out of control. i really had thought there was another me..i always spoke if "her" and i would "switch" she would be the one who took all the pain and abuse that has happened to me. she held all the anger and whatnot.. I never thought i had bipolar, id do research and it just never seemed right. ive done a lot of research actually. and Bpd sounds more of what i have. but i was recently put on a mood stabilizer. and honestly everything crazy just stopped. i dont think ive ever been better in my life. and i brought it up to my doctor who said i have both, borderline and bipolar because the medication was working..which he meant that in order for the meds to work i have to have bipolar....anywayss...on top of the meds i did research on neuroplasticity which i find incredibly fascinating. so with both meds and rewiring the brain...ive never in my life felt more normal and stable and actually ok. although i dont really approve of medication...at the point where i was...i was genuinely afraid something very bad was going to happen if i didnt take drastic measures to do something. i was no longer able to help myself...i was completely gone...now im afraid to ever get off the meds because im so scared to ever go back to that.... although thats the whole point of neuroplasticity is to change all of that...i cant help but still have that fear...anyways sorry for the long comment. i know this is messy amd all over the place and missing gaps in the story but guess i felt the need to share some....again thank you for the videos

    I really enjoyed watching this! I have bipolar 2 with personality disorder characteristics, and my therapy is always going from BPD to Bipolar, and we never seem to get anywhere. So its so important for the individual to have an understanding of where they sit within the spectrum to keep the therapy on track. Be brutally honest with yourself and you will get better in a fraction of the time. Love this video!

    I think I've lived with this for so long that I barely notice when said waves hit me, unless it's on the extreme end of feeling happy or like garbage. However, past trauma I've dealt with he me on edge thinking if I get even slightly excited for something, then I'm having another episode. It really sucks, and even now I don't know if I truly was misdiagnosed with bipolar years ago or I'm in BPD hell like I think I might be.

    She explains things so well. I tend to overthink and notice a lot of things that other people might just brush off. I feel that she really pays attention to the little things, which is so important to me. In other vids, just watching it makes me feel uneasy or paranoid if I see them doing things, for example, looking around or paying attention to other things. Just quickly confirming that she's double-checking her notes when she's looking down made me feel a lot more comfortable. It's really the little things that go a long way...

Totally broken, it's taken a long time but i'm now in process of being diagnosed with either BPD or bipolar type 2 but the professionals are struggling to decide which one i fall into. I decided to educate myself and found myself here, listening to you and it's really truly helped me and above all i finally don't feel alone in all this. This is the first time i have spoken publicly about my difficulties. I've been having a really hard time dealing with my emotions, it started young.... But about a year and a half ago I really thought I might have bpd but I told myself "well you don't fit with the fear of abandonment nor do you have troubles with relationships" well now I'm realizing that I actually have very few friends and I've been pretty flaky and crappy to a lot of them and I'm also pissed off completely with my boyfriend because I feel neglected or I guess abandoned(?) even though I KNOW rationally he's trying his best, but I can't get over how I feel so I'm just lashing out and being a complete bitch to him... And I noticed that even back when him and I were just friends sometimes I would get a huge surge of anxiety when ever I heard about something he would do with out me, even something as simple as going for a walk by himself, I knew it was completely irrational and didn't make sense so I kept ignoring it, but now I just can't ignore it because I can't hide how I feel anymore.

    • @cheesebread5eva
      @cheesebread5eva 8 лет назад +5

      Even if I know the feeling irrational. I can't hide it I just want to lash out because I don't know how to deal with it, I don't know how to deal with ANY negative emotions other than to lash out (and sometimes I can get so angry I have turned violent...) cry, or harm myself.

    I'm diagnosed with both, and thank you for bringing awareness to it. Your explanation hits the nail right on the head. When I was diagnosed with BPD, and distinguished as type 2 bipolar (up until seeing that particular doc, I just got generalized bipolar or depression diagnoses), it filled in all the holes...everything made sense. And thanks to you, I was able to distinguish that I'm definitely a quiet type of borderline. That filled in even more missing traits from generalized DSM definition. And I believe any good psychiatrist/therapist would note individual cases as such...individual.

    I´m bordeline and I met a lot of bipolar people in hospitala and I think there is a big difference between this disorders. My opinion is that bipolar is more intensive and goes just like Kati said mainly episodic. My friend who is bipolar had really bad swings between manic and depression episodes and it was really visible. BPD like this all the time but not so intense and it includes large rage of emotions of all kinds. I don´t know if there is difference between psychotic experiences but I as BPD had a lot of psychotic attacks and dissociation.

      Teri Pisklakova That's pretty much it, huge contrast in a hospital setting. Night and day. It's likely only a challenge for outpatients to determine diagnosis. I didn't see much mania (hypomania really) in the outpatient setting. I did see a fair amount of BPD behavior. Full blown mania is almost the same in everyone. You seen one, you've seen them all. Only difference if that some manics are mean and others are pleasant. Kinda reveals their true colors like an alcoholic lol.

As time went on I spoke to my therapist and expressed how I think I might actually have bpd instead of Aspergers. I was diagnosed with bpd at age 19. I think I may have bipolar and bpd together as i have all symptoms of both apart from impulsivity because I also suffer from really bad existential death anxiety. Have you watched the video from Heythereimshannon on this subject?She suffer from bipolar disorder and she is making the video during her mania.
      It's so weird how you can get angry easily and then being mad at yourself for having this feeling...
      The thing about bipolar disorder is that is more of a subconscious thing then a environment thing.If you have a bad environment, it will probably get worse, but if you are in a situation where you're supposed to feel happy, you don't and it's so disappointed.
      I don't know you mother,but if you had a good relationship with your mother before the diagnosis,I bet she loves you the same way and that she doesn't mean to hurt you.
      My mom isn't the definition of a mentally healthy person either,so I think I get both sides,even if just a little.
      I know it's very hard, but there are times where we have to have patience and let them be the children while we play the parents.
      I hope everything gets better :)

    This is probably the best, clear-cut explanation of the differences between bipolar and bpd I have seen or heard, even when my psychiatrists explained it to me (lol) . I was misdiagnosed as BPD about 7 months before I got my Bipolar 1 diagnosis in 2014. The psychiatrist that diagnosed me with BPD was seriously the worst, I came in suspecting that I had bipolar 2, but he thought I had BPD because I was emotional in his office. I'm not an impulsive person at all (unless I'm manic/in a bad place ), and my episodes come and go. Granted, I have only had one full-blown manic episode in my life, and I mostly deal with depression. Thanks for the great video!

    Hi Kati,
    I was wondering if it's normal to not want your therapist to leave. My therapist is moving in 3 weeks to be closer to her family so she won't be able to be my therapist anymore. I know she has to move but I still don't want her to go. It's going to hurt much when she leaves. I'm going to want to hug her and cry at our last session. 😢 I feel like I shouldn't go to therapy anymore so that when she does leave it won't hurt when she does leave. Does that make me a bad or selfish person?

    ah this video is great and you're a wonderful teacher!! you see so much stigma, even in whats disguised as helpful information from professionals, about these disorders (especially bpd). i was diagnosed bipolar 1 at age 17 after a manic episode which resulted in crashed cars, ruined education, delusions and feelings of grandiosity and other reckless behaviour involving drugs and sex. i was recently diagnosed as also having bpd at age 25 after seeking help a year after a breakdown of a relationship. it's a real struggle having a diagnosis of both and living with both in the first place. i became very used to my bipolarisms (lmao) but didn't have answers for the cause of certain behaviours and patterns. i'm educating myself more on bpd and this video is a great watch so thanks for putting the effort in and sharing the helpful info in a sympathetic way. subscribed :-)

    I only recently learned that BPD and Bipolar can actually overlap and it makes things so much easier to understand. Thanks for your clips, Kati. They do help so much.

    All these disorders are the same one...expressed thru unique individuals...a basic combo of sensitive people traumatized by many broken societal systems.:(

      Bipolar has nothing to do with "broken societal systems". Those can certainly make things worst, but bipolar is a neurochemical issue, and genetic. Sorry, because I understand the idea of the post, but is just plain ignorant. No offense intended, but you don't understand that bipolar is not induced, we born with it (even if you only show the symptoms later as a response to your "broken societal systems"). So, no, they are not the same, that's for sure, and that's why she made this video. Ask any properly licenced psychiatrist or psychologist. Again, no offense intended.

    I'm glad I found your channel, I was dx'd with Bipolar type 2 in 2004. During that time my hypomania has caused me to forgo med compliance several times the longest being 2 years. Recently my psychiatrist suggested borderline personality disorder, at first I thought he was just bored and wanted to play fetch with me. I have all the symptoms of PTSD. I reviewed the criteria and found I fit most, the trouble I was having was with impulsivity but I have a history of impulsivity, petty theft, drinking, over shopping, other nagging things I've mostly resolved. I have very bad anger and irritability. I'm no longer employable because I can be around people for very long. I feel hopeless and helpless most of the time. I can't find any help, I'm getting exhausted just writing this.

    Please talk slower! I found this video a little difficult to follow because of how quickly you went back and forth between the 2 disorders.

    i was diagnosed with BPD and depression when i was about 16...I've listened to your explanations and i think now it's applicable. i used to get treatment for it but they didnt seem to be helping so i stopped and I've been just dealing with it on my own using coping skills like writing and art to express whatever I'm going through. your videos have helped me come to a better understanding of why i was diagnosed with BPD apart from depression and its pretty accurate (as sad as it is) but luckily now it's easier to handle since now i better know what's going on when i have episodes

    My most recent diagnosis is Borderline personality disorder, MDD, OCD as well as the fact I've been experiencing psychosis for about 2 years now. My Psychiatrist has gone back and forth about what to diagnose me with for a while. In my case that had been the frustrating part, I just wanted to know so I could find better coping skills and to inform myself about my mental health.
    And we are not set in stone yet but for now my current diagnosis is what works best for me and for the most part it seems accurate.
    I've found your videos on BPD really helpful, and they have reminded me how much I loved DBT. I love being able to find information and relate it back to my diagnosis and my symptoms. Its helped me find some of those coping skills I've been so desperately trying to find for myself.

    Hi! I'm new here... I have been a long time Bi polar 1 with severe anxiety. And recently diagnosed with BPD as well. I have a number of co morbid disorders on top of this. But I have found that dealing with the swings of bipolar and the other disorders is easier to manage through my 3 1/2 years of sobriety. It's the BPD that was always the mysterious extra component to the whole equation that kept holding me back. I am starting with a new therapist very soon, but educating myself as much as possible in the mean time, and finding your videos very helpful with my understanding of what this all is. And what it all means. Thank you for your honest, sensitive, inspiring and non judgemental approach. ✌❤

    I have been diagnosed with borderline 8 years now and I have done so much educating myself and learning everything I can do over come it. I am 38 and it is said in lots of books that you can out grow it.
    I am off meds and I control it with mindfulness and also do not have anxiety or fear anymore and I am making it my life's mission to help anyone I can with mental health disorders because we can control it in your own minds using mindfulness and deep breathing and slowing the mind and body down.

    The past 2.5 years, it has been very scary and difficult for me to figure out what kind of disorder I'm dealing with. Growing up, I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Once I hit my mid-twenties, something changed. I can related more to depression, bipolar or bpd. This is very scary for me since I had a twisted/abstract view about these disorders. I could tell you anything about GAD or panic, but not much about any other disorder.
    That being said, I appreciate your tone and kindness when talking about disorders. It really really calms me down and makes me realize that my feelings/disorders aren't as scary as society makes them out to be. It's nice to hear information from a mental health professional :) Thanks for making these videos. I know I found them for a reason :)

    Thank you for the video. I have struggled since I was a pre-teen with voices, seeing things and people who are not there, major mood swings and depression/anxiety. Through my teens and into my early to mid 20's things were up and down on a daily basis then seemed to have started to come and go regularly. The voices and visual/auditory problems did not go away. I am now 40 and STILL have these problems, I have had dozens and I mean DOZENS of jobs and can not seem to hold it together enough to keep one. The jobs I was able to stick out where the ones that I had several weeks of PTO and vacation weeks that I could take at a whim. So when the soda machine starts talking to me or the visual issues popped up I could leave and go home and lock myself down. Three or four years ago I was in a situation where I was homeless and living in my car, I did not think it was a bad thing and I was used to it, at one point I wanted to end it so I could finally get some peace and be free from it all and I took myself to the nearest hospital and asked to be evaluated. Needless to say they admitted me and never really did much of anything, they gave me a list of activities and said good luck. I have serious problems being near people and in a public setting so no matter how bad I wanted to go to the meetings or activities they had I could not bring myself to do it. The doctor who was over the patients there came in and basically told me there was nothing wrong with me and that I was only there because of my living situation! Not to mention that she was concerned about my insurance coverage and that since I did not have any at the moment. It felt like I was being discriminated against because they couldnt get the insurance money for letting me stay in the hospital. She then put the order in to have me released the day after. When I over heard the doctors talking she was saying that I was boarder line narcissist. That is where I that story ends, I was released shortly there after and never returned. I was pissed because they brushed me off saying I was homeless so thats why I was there, for the shower and the meals...that is total crap. I had food and water and cash on hand and a shower at the ready so she was full of shit. Of course the social worker at the hospital had me sign up for disability while I was there and I was denied at that point. Skip forward to today and I am still bat shit crazy and have been placed on medication for anxiety and depression for the past 2 years or so. It does help a little but not enough, it doesnt stop the visuals and the voices. I have started seeing a good therapist and she helped me sign up for disability again, she gave me a diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, ptsd and depression. I feel as if she knows what she is doing so I trust her to make a professional diagnosis and I do not doubt what she says. I am still waiting to hear back on my disability application and my I am scheduled to see a doctor that is going to take care of any new medication changes etc. It is nice to know someone cares out there and wants to help. I wish I could hold down a job and be normal, have friends and live a regular life. I somehow do not think this will happen any time soon. I can only hope. Well enough of my rambling. Thanks again for the video, you shoot straight from the hip and you curse, I like that, makes you seem approachable and not pretentious like so many other people in the field.

    Hi ! I was diagnosed on the BP spectrum and I was raised by an abusive mother and family who has traits of BPD. The huge difference I've noticed is my ability to know what triggers me and admit I need help and I have times of clarity. My mother never had any emotional breaks and multiple rifts in personal relationships. I was relieved when I realized that my mother might be suffering from BPD. So helpful

    diagnosed with BPD and bipolar 1 when I was 21. I went undiagnosed for years, and , even when I knew something was off. I have such severe case of abandonment, even if I imagined it, it feels as real as the grounds I walk on. however, I'm unmedicated for either. therapists where I live that I have tried are the epitome of unhelpful with one or the other, and drugs just don't suit me. I manage by having a rocking support system where I can say things like "please don't abandon me" or "don't let me isolate because I'm suicidal" and they help me through the bipolar cycles even though I'm exhausting. I'm so grateful for them!

    Bpd/Bp/ocd/adhd and finally Pstd I'm basically a walking diagnosis. It takes ALOT of humor (But mostly prayer) to keep me going. I was first diagnosed at 13 with dysthimic disorder and major depressive disorder. I've been on a roller coaster ride of treatments medications and therapy and it's all been hard but my life is worth it. If your here today seeking help for yourself, your life is worth it too. I just wanted to share the love and thank this community of information seekers for thriving.
