I've purchased this today to complete my strymon lineup, which forms the core of my stereo rig. Zelzah, into Iridium, then Volante, and Flint last. My friends are joking I work for Strymon at this point. Everything else like dirt, compression, etc runs mono before that. I have to say the stereo image Zelzah creates is something you have to hear, I can't describe it. Even if you don't want a lot of phasing you can set it to be very subtle, but it just widens the space and creates this airy void. Then you throw some bouncing panned delays on top and you're in heaven. It is magical.
I wish Strymon would update all their small pedals with MIDI and USB-C. I sold my Strymon DIG because lack of MIDI. It’s almost 2022 and surprising Strymon hasn’t made a multi-effects processor rack like a TC Electronic G Major, Line 6 Helix, etc…
Had it now for 2 weeks, absolutely love it, it's the only dedicated modulation pedal on my board right now, and is the first phaser to be able to kick my Phase 90 off my board. Using a Volante to get awesome repeats with this and an octave fuzz to make it wild is just insane fun.
It’s been a long time since I enjoyed the sound of a phaser. They were great when I was 14, less so now that I’m 60. I am nonetheless very impressed by the Zelzah and that is because it has tone without noise, excess swooshiness and doesn’t appear to get too think and gooey. Have not yet made the purchase decision but I can hear that train coming. Thanks for the usual awesome and clear demo Mr Pete
i've spent so much money trying to have an all analog pedalboard....tried the walrus polychrome and eqd grand orbiter v3, but literally replaced BOTH of those analog pedals with this one digital pedal. strymon is on another level though, and is so good that you can't tell it's digital at all, and outperforms the analog equivalents......amazing.
After playing for over 30 years I’ve never wanted a modulation pedal so bad... I’m blown away by this demo and the technical explanation from the gentleman was exceptional, definitely a must buy for me (BTW I don’t own any Strymon pedals, this would be my first one).
I recently picked up a Zelzah, and this demo really influenced my decision. It’s so versatile, and there are no bad sounds in it. I really think calling it a “multidimensional phaser” is selling it short, and may lead people to believe it’s just a big, expensive phaser pedal (duh). It is so much more. I purchased a multi switch plus almost immediately after I got the Zelzah, and I’m now considering a midi foot switch. There are so many great sounds available.
Pete!!!! Thank you so much for this. I’m getting one and can’t wait. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to decide on a few pedals to get and keep it smaller in number and this everything I need and nothing I don’t. I’m starting to think we need to just all commit 100% to everything you’ve got out there. And at the very least, watching these demos is a straight up legit way to learn about pedal circuitry and modulation, gain and other deep things. It explains so many things I wonder about how effects work and the relationships they have with others. Ok enough sucking up.
Simplicity? How many hours will it take of butt time to sit down with this pedal and read through all the over-engineered mumbo jumbo... ugh... I think Strymon is a cult and they have zombie-like followers who would drink the Kool-aid if they were asked to do so... Typically over-engineered, over-priced and always too complicated for normal people to use.
@@timmygeem398 I disagree. Accessing cool sounds from these pedals (…like the Flint as well) is straight forward and immediate. Diving deeper takes time and effort, but you don’t have to, to get cool sounds. The multifunctional pedals like Big Sky, and Timeline for sure are not as straightforward. But, I think Strymons sound really good in general? No Kool-Aid. I went through a bunch of Reverb and Trem pedals (…costing way more than one Flint) that don’t sound anywhere as good as the Flint, and the Flint is REALLY easy to use. I bought and sold the Iridium, because I didn’t love the modeling. I might think about another pedal, but my pallet is pretty simple? The Zelda looks like can produce a lot more sounds. But, it also looks like it can generate cool tones right away? I’m a fan, but I am not a “fan boy”. I don’t need or want all the offerings of Strymon, but they make good pedals.
Yeah! The Steve Jobs-alike dude of Strymon is back and I do like his oversized Jesus-in-a-tent longsleeve which looks as three dimensional as their new purple phaser sounds! Big hug from Germany 👋🏻
@@boarderking133 Not really. Probably the closest are the Source Audio pedals and you need the neurohub which puts you up to $269 plus you can only do one algorithm at a time.
Such a beautiful pedal, great sounding phaser 😍 the design and concept kinda remind me of the Liqua Flange that Line 6 released many years ago, it was a very tweakable flanger. Even though it’s not a flanger, I don’t know, kinda reminded me of that old pedal. Those flangy tones by 06:30 are gold!
It sounds like a lot of care was taken to make sure it's not only full of sweet spots, but these sweet spots also seem to take you to a different time and place.
@@castleanthrax1833 True, but I've noticed that with some phasers the tone can get a bit muddy if placed after drives. You're right though, only one way to find out

That’s our hope at least”
HA! I came to this same kind of conclusion of why I kept buying pedals... Now I pretty much strictly play anything I'm working on clean or with some dirt. Then add any effects on later.
It has something to do with Filters, you can see it on Instagram pretty well. I think it also has a phaser mode too, I'm excited for whatever it is. (Though, Strymon Fuzz anytime soon?)
Several users from the The Gear Page have unearthed from Strymon’s website what appears to be a logo for a pedal called “Zelzah” described as a “Multidimensional phaser”.
I have been thinking for years that if Strymon ever made a synth pedal it would sound amazing, and not just do what other synth pedals did in the past. It may also be great at polyphonic tracking.
Would be great to have a GOOD sounding synth pedal. The Meris one is pretty good but I am not a huge fan of their layout with hidden options... I LOVE the Line6 FM4 but it tracks like s**t... (which is arguably part of the charm as well)
I did not know such a pedal can exist. It is so versatile and yet simple. Two beautifully sounding effects and the stereo mix sounds so good. The addition of time-based effects makes it in my opinion into the most versatile modulation pedal out there. Much more exciting dialling in the effect instead of selecting a preset algorithm of a knows analogue effect box. Great use of Digital technology. The routing options of the two effects is also incredible and the examples at the end sounded so reach and interesting. I think this will not only make a great guitar and synth pedal but will be a great tool for production. The only small thing that would maybe be nice in my opinion is control over the modulation shape on the 6-Stage side, like square, triangle, S&H... You get a bit of that on the 4-stage but would be nice to have a more powerful control on the 6-stage. Maybe this can be done using the secondary functions at a later stage.
The Way I see it (and/or hear it) to define the world of Modulation includes Chorus, Flange, Uni-Vibe, Tremolo, Vibrato, Leslie Sim, did I leave anything out? Oh, Yeah, Phaser. I have seriously been thinking about trying to include a "Phaser" sound into my Rig all the way from "In My Time of Dying" Led Zep to Waylon Jennings. Long story Short, through with Stereo Bose Headphones this the Best Audio Demonstration of a Phaser that I have ever heard. It's just like listening to an Origin Effects Video. I think the "Proof is in the Pudding". It just sounds Good.

This is fantastic. I really dig the 6-stage stereo, wow. Strymon should develop their version of Eventide's MicroPitch pedal, a doubler / detuned delays, I bet that would be awesome.
