    In 2005 I worked in the area around Dawson Creek. The beginning of the Alaskan Highway. As the fall season set in and the leaves fell I could see all kinds of cars and muscle cars in yards that were just sitting. One farmer had a several mopars in his yard. Great area to explore for barn finds, if they are still there.

    So I recently got Hagerty insurance on my 1975 Jeep J10. It was a Father’s Day present from my wife. It ticked all my boxes old muscle, Jeep, 4x4, and a truck. I’m self taught of what I know about fixing cars. I really enjoyed this episode, I love seeing old 4x4s.
    (I will say I found it funny that RUclips started suggestion your channel after I went on Google looking for classic car insurance once.) Hagerty is really the best option in my opinion for classic car insurance. You can beat the price for the coverage and what a great staff. Thank you!

    I bought a '75 Bronco brand new off the showroom floor. Paid $6,000 for it, (a LOT of money in '75!) Had the Dana 44, and posi in the rear and limited slip in the front, all from the factory. Was damn hard to get that stuck, either in mud or sand! Wish I still had that truck, although living in Illinois it died a horrible cancerous death from road salt. Near the end, when you opened either door, it would drop down about half an inch! My daughters still comment about looking at a portion of the road through the floorboards if they were riding in it. In those days, as with every American 70's car, rust protection and treated metals were just a pipe dream..... Thanks for this video, brought back a lot of memories!

      I owned a '75 Bronco Sport with 302, that I paid $4500 in 1980. I sold my Land Rover SWB in the Yukon and wanted a similar body style to replace it, loved the Bronco. The body had rusted badly by the late 1980's.

    I had a 302 three speed bronco in Kodiak, Alaska in 76. It had been pretty beat up but still got me around the island. I remember going down one day into Kodiak and on the last little hill before dropping into town the right rear axle decided it didn't want to stay in the housing. Made for a bit of a walk and some work replacing the bearing and retainer.

    I drive my 2003 TJ, 2000 km (about 1200 miles) towing a utility trailer when we moved from Toronto, Ontario to Halifax, Nova Scotia. I thought it would be the most exhausting vehicle to drive of our four ( the others being a 2007 Civic, 2014 RAV4 and 1984 Supra) but it actually turned out to be the most enjoyable of the bunch!

    This cracked me up!!! Nice job with passing all those rigs at the start. I'm from Nor Cal and yes we lost a giant Sequoia tree knows as "The Tunnel" tree last year. Glad Tim got a chance to drive through it before it fell. Watching him drive the Mustang it was obvious he was having fun even though Tim is pretty soft spoken There seemed to be remnant of his teenage age years still showing on his face. I mentioned on here before that I pulled a 76 F100 out of the pine trees from my neighbors yard, but the true prize that I've not gotten them to part with is a 74 Bronco. I think it has a 302 as well but the engine is tucked away in the shed. Time will tell, I guess I just have to be patient.

  • @828enigma6
    @828enigma6 5 лет назад

    Less rusting in AK because they don't use salt on the roads except in early winter. Reason is salt doesn't work below around 20°, so they just use sand after that. And, as noted, the cold helps reduce rusting, unless you do something dumb like putting foam insulation in spaces not meant for it. Holds moisture in.

    I owned a '66 with the 240 straight 6. Purchased from a used car dealer off I 25 in northern Colarado near the Wyoming line. Paid $1100 (1981) traded it for a Cub Cadet in 1982 and always wished I'd never did. I lived on top of a mountain with a 20 degree grade going up. It had studded snows and went right up every time. The rings were worn and it fouled the plugs every 500 miles. I carried a spare set in a shoe box lid under the front seat so I could change 'em out wherever and clean and reuse them. Color was medium blue similar to the one above with the white top. It had a rusted out kick panel near the pedals that I patched so my feet wouldn't get wet and cold. I could stop it half way up the mountain to pick up neighbors then proceed even in glare ice. Of course it had manual locking hubs so you had to get out prior to climbing with it to engage the 4wd. I once used it to pull a neighbor's pickup. It was no slouch even with the 6 cylinder. It had a 3 speed on the column and of course the hi/lo stick on the floor. In low 1st speed I could just about knock trees over with it. What a wonderful truck it was.

      Interior and Northern Alaska is dry, other than that, it’s wet around the edges.

      Alaska has the 14th driest place in the US, with only 3.82” of annual precipitation, drier than Lake Havasu, AZ. Alaska is way bigger and more varied climate-wise than people realize.

      When it gets really cold the moisture literally freezes out of the air and it gets super dry.

    Just bought 7 first gen Broncos up here in Fairbanks for $800, they all have a title but only one of them is actually drivable. The rest are complete but are rusty and haven’t moved in probably 30 years. Just making this comment so people know there still up here, even in 2021 during the “ vehicle shortage “ your still able to find a bunch of first gen Broncos for cheap. A kid at a gas station liked my 77(The only one that was drivable of the bunch I got) and said he’d wish he could afford it, well some guy offered me $18k for it so I got that kids attention and said he could have it for $400 as long as he didn’t sell it. I now see that kid(he’s actually 17) every other week showing me what’s he done to his bronco. The other guy at the gas station was very upset he couldn’t even buy it off the kid. I told him money don’t matter it’s about the memory’s you make, I can guarantee that kid will hold onto that bronco for a very long time. As of for me the 6 left over Broncos should be enough to make one good drivable one, I’ll probably end up using them as bargaining tools to trade for other junk.

      @@devonriley110 Side-by side several of those Crews in the background were worth more than some of the first-gen Bronco's they were looking at. First Gen Bronco's saw around 13-20+ thousand produced per model year, while those Crew's are closer to 2-4k per year, of which only around 25% were 4x4's. In other words it's around 30x harder to find a factory crew 4x4 than it is a first gen Bronco.
