Love it…I remember when they won the 1000, sand I thought that little Bronco was the ultimate machine and I wanted one badly. But I was a student at the time and had no money…fast forward a few (40+) years and I finally found and rebuilt my dream machine, a 1969 Bronco.
Just one of those iconic trophy trucks you never forget. Amazing. Thanks for sharing Jay.
This one and the “Oly” Bronco are all time favourites. Absolutely fantastic to see this one on the best car show. Thank you.
I love seeing lady auto enthusiasts. Not enough of them. Glad to see this lady treating this vehicle and Rod Hall's legacy so well.
who's making lunch?
showing Jay get into the truck would have made this video wholesome
Lol. I agree 👍 and I bet that sweet lady wishes she woulda brought along one of them bands for her hair. 😂 she really wasn’t thinking ahead.
I imagine it taking a few people a few prybars and some butter
Wholesome? lol yeah something like that.
I agree they could've done a video of him just trying to get in would've been hilarious
You all should go watch The Bachelor some more if it's drama you want,
I was lucky enough to chase the 1000 with Rod and his crew years ago. All good people. He was a real gentleman and a great guy! I am sad to hear of his passing and admire what he was able to achieve and how he lived his life. Godspeed!😁👍🍻🏁
The simple fact that Jay got into this rig says a lot!
This was before his accident. Or were you referring to his "large buttocus"? 😜
I love that bronco. So iconic.
Q: "How do you make a small fortune racing?" A: "Start with a large one." Sounds like Mr. Rod Hall knew that and kept his options open, he worked with everyone, and made it pay. Unreal that the truck is still going strong after so many years, glad it is. Amy seems pretty confident in herself and her abilities. Way to go!
Actually Jr. Johnson coined that phrase.
This is a great truck featured by the great Jay Leno, Thumbs Up
@@jalopywrench I didn't know who originally said it, I just thought it was way funny.
It was Jr from the old days of nascar. And true of any form of racing. Rod was one of the best. He believed in the KISS principle. Keep It Simple Stupid. His truck proves that. Nothing fancy, just works. I've been in person with this truck, the cool factor is definitely there.
@@jalopywrench Yeah we know, but we don't care about NASCAR. Ugh
Oh man I love that bronco . I had a slot car as a kid that I loved so much that was based on that bronco .
And look at that you’re standing right next to the actual car . How can something completely based around function look so cool. Just amazing . You’re right jay it does scream the sixties .
I felt the same way about the modal A slot car that I had. It was fast but just came flying off the track at any curve... fun stuff.
Lol i think i have that Bronco and my original AFX tracks (from 1970 something…)stuffed in a box in the garage, dang with my old HO train set!!
The afx parnelli jones bronco slot car... the real one was also in the movie gone in 60 sec
@@Marcelmopartruckguy get it out use it
Sweet Bronco! And another great video Jay...keep 'em coming!
I had a 1968 bronco with a 289 and 3 on the tree. I still remember those crappy vacuum windshield wipers! It was a blast to drive!
I had a 70 Bronco with the 302, and three on the tree, that I'd drive from York, PA to Rochester, NY, up Rout 15. Did great in the NY snow up there.
Very Very Glad to see that Jay seems okay! We don’t heal as quickly at our ages! Jay, I Prayed for you, and still will.
This video has been recorded before the accident.
David, this is before the fire. Jay has had many interviews and been out in public since he got out of the hospital and even did a stand up comedy show in LA the other day. So he's doing ok, heck I'd say great, but yeah he's got scarring on his mouth and side of his face, and on his hands. But his attitude seems to be "no big deal", he doesn't care what he looks like. I think he said that he's gotten skin grafts in the hospital so he does look a lot better, especially on his face.
@@guytansbariva2295 Thanks for the update. I was hoping he was doing well. He's a national treasure and I ached hearing about the accident.
Great job to the person that set up that suspension!!!! They were called Broncos for a reason. Jay test drove at speed with one hand!! Ford would be jealous.
What a great rig it`is! I have owned 2 old broncos and loved them!
I hope Jay is recovering well. That accident recently could have killed him. He seems like such a great guy.
Great comment! I've made the same myself over the last several weeks. Sounds like he's good. He's been out in public a lot and is doing stand up shows already. What's interesting is the interview he did with Adam Carolla several days ago. He goes over what happened and all of the outpouring of love he got in the hospital, from normal people and celebrities.
@@guytansbariva2295 our prayers 🙏 have been answered
@@frankdenardo8684 Yes they have Frank!
What happened to jay
@@davidnelson4055 He was burned by steam I believe. He was working on a steam engine car and I guess a valve or something burst while it was still hot as heck and he burned his face pretty bad. I think he needed skin grafts. He appears to be doing alright but he’s got some scars and that must’ve been extremely painful. A man his age that can kill you just from the stress alone.
Great car. I was always impressed by Amy's driving of the Porsche on the Dakar.
Very cool. Historic Bronco. I owned a Bronco 20 years. Nice to see the old ones still around.🔥🔥😍😎♥♥
Now you can order a new 2023 Bronco FORD For Old Retired Dudes! 🤠
I am so happy your are ok. I burn my hands when a radiator hose exploded on a 86 Camaro. I was adjusting the belt and the wrench popped the hose. I lost all my skin and till today I still have the marks it’s been 30 years. Thank you for your knowledge of cars and for opening your garage to us.
Thanks for another great start to the week Jay!
Just watched “One More Win” on Tubi. What a great story! Thank you Amy!
Jay!
You have the coolest video's on RUclips, (PLEASE SHOW THE CUT OF YOU GETTING IN ROD HALL'S BRONKO)
That would be (FREAKING) GREAT!
Keep doing what you love doing, because we love watching!
She’s cool and an impressive driver. Great to see her here. Seeing this has reminded us of Dakar taking off again at 31 Dec. Thanks for sharing this one Amy and Jay.
I love those early Broncos. I see similarities to Parnelli Jones’ Big Oly Bronco. I almost bought a well-used ‘68 Bronco some time ago. It had been used as a plow truck. No deal.
I went through the Rod Hall Off-road school training when I was in the US Army. We used our GMV's and Rod Hall sent two instructors to teach us recovery techniques and of course driving skills. I wish I could remember there names. I have a certificate from the course. This maybe was in 1998 to 2000?
So pleased to see on the news that Jay is out and about again. Hope you're not in too much pain fella!
Jay said in the Adam Carolla interview the other day that he doesn't like to take pain meds and refused them at the hospital. In fact, he went home after the fire and only went to the hospital the next morning because his wife wanted him to. His face "peeled" off when he was sleeping, but he has a very high pain threshold.
I understand what's he's saying, but infection is what you have to worry about, not pain.n
Glad to see good content in reserve while Jay is recovering. This was an interesting ride and a cool owner, as always!
finally someone with common sense that doesn't think Jay recorded this yesterday
what happen to jay?
@@ErnPrivado your mom happend... thats why he's so depressed 🤣 i'm also dissapointed on the sloppy job she did
Thanks again Mr. Leno for the great history lesson, I absolutely love Broncos, especially the episode where Ford put the coyote motor in it for you. With the manual transmission🙏🏽
Wow, could you imagine driving around the airport and seeing Rod Hall's Baja winning Bronco being driven by Jay? So awesome!
Gotta love Jay and his laid back mellow yellow approach to life 🙂 I was sad to hear about the fire but glad to hear he is taking it in stride, what a great guy!
I think this video was recorded before the fire
@@pashakdescilly7517 Of course it was. But he's out of the hospital and has been in interviews and even did a stand up comedy show in LA last week. He's still mellow yellow, still laid back. Seems he has a huge pain tolerance, which helps a lot. Check out his interview with Adam Carolla the other day.
@@guytansbariva2295 he is bouncing back surprisingly well, but it will take a long time for full recovery.
@@pashakdescilly7517 My only worry is that he's pushing himself too hard to get back on stage, back in the Garage. He doesn't seem to care about his burns and how he looks, but I hope he's keeping up with what he has to do with the skin grafts and keeping infection away. Mavis is probably riding his butt 😊
@@guytansbariva2295 He said he did his own roast ! Lol !
Hey Jay! Glad to see you're back at it and doing so well after your accident. You are a treasure to us.
50 years being racing, thats is amazing!!! How cool is that. Cheers.
I wish they had showed Jay climbing into that thing.
Welcome back old friend...awesome bonco..the a barn stomer...runs and sounds truly beast...Love you Jay..keep watching and hit that like button before watching people so you won't forget...
Great video. I love old race vehicles of any type. I'm glad the pulled this one out to race again. It just seems almost every sporting and racing event was so much better before the big corporations took it over and pushed the little guys out. Stay well Jay.
Love that Bronco, I remember Rod Hall racing early. I'll check out the onemorewin. Keep healing up Jay!
Jay should now be called the Italian stallion. Looking great and recovered like he just brushed that s*** off. Good man and God bless. Merry Christmas Jay!
@@nuevohombre592 no it's not if you look closely on Jay's face and on his left arm in 1080P you can see he is wearing some makeup but this is post injury.
No, this episode was recorded several months ago - before the fire.
Just finished watching the Rod Hall documentary it is excellent!
so glad to see you are well jay
I’m not a Ford fan per say but I have to show some love for all that man and that vehicle did for off-road racing. Way cool and much respect! Thanks for sharing and bringing back the memories
I've always loved the original Broncos, my father was a State Farm agent and most of his friends were in the car business so I saw the bronco early and close up!
Jay is a national treasure protect him at all cost
She said” Bang it out!” 😂
Jay, fun video--& thank you for cutting the scene of your entire crew inserting you through the side window of that vehicle. ;-)
felt a little cheated not seeing Jay climb into the Bronco...
Bless You Jay....Wishing you a continued smooth recovery..stay safe
Great to see Mr. Leno is doing great. God Bless you!
Jay should attend The HAMMER in Feb.. Been a early Bronco still racing there... 180 entries running 200 miles in 14 hours with only 30-35 finishing...
Glad you are doing so well. Be careful damn it!!the world can't keep losing the good ones.
Glad you are back!!!!
You take care!!!!
Obviously we need to see her ‘82 Porsche!!! Great episode! Long live the memory of Rod Hall, a true racing icon!!
As a young guy in the U.K. 40 years ago I used to love the Bronco adverts in American Dirt Bike magazine. Thought the whole off road scene in the States was great, fuel of day dreams😀
The off-road community in the western US is bigger than ever and growing.
The machines are called side by sides (SxS)
They are high horsepower (200 to 400 hp) and lightweight with long travel soft suspensions.
The two most competitive machines are CanAm X-3 Maverick and Polaris Pro R
Every member of our family has their own, all our friends too.
They would eat that Bronco for lunch.
@@TheBandit7613 He's talking about real full sized vehicles, not some weekender's go-kart
@@SOMeDoOD1992 They aren't go carts anymore. They are taking over. Purpose-built, 30" of suspension travel, 100+ mph. King of Hammers, Baja... Very capable machines. '
Sour grapes because you can't afford one.
@@TheBandit7613 I would take either, the fun I could have😁
They won the first Baja 1,000. Because Malcolm and his team got lost. Criss cross the whole peninsula twice before they got back on track. I was fortunate enough to see
Rod Hall race a few times.
In the early in the early seventies it was easy to tell when the bronco was coming.
Thanks for showing this one Jay.
Fantastic vintage Bronco!
Best wishes to Jay and his family
8:12 I see it has the optional "rusty bolt" safety feature on that solid steering shaft!
Wow, how did it go from a manual 4 speed to an automatic 3 speed in a manner of minutes?!?😆
I'm also very confused, I was wondering if anybody else caught that!
I have to assume that it was originally a 4-speed and that's what the reference was to - since it has a clutch pedal.
It had 3 pedals 4 speed then 3 speed auto very odd. stuff like that disappoints me . What true
Same here......?????
I was lost on that too. If it was a 4 speed automatic and they just slipped up on that I would be fine. But the C6 is a 3 speed automatic. A very good transmission but certainly not an old school 4 speed like they originally said. Since they spend the rest of the video stating it's an automatic I assume that must be what it actually is.
I recently bought a 1970 Ford F-250 but I am 19 and can’t find classic car insurance. I figured Jay Leno viewers might know some. I live in Calgary Alberta Canada. Thanks For Your Help.
Love these videos on old 4x4s
Super cool! When do we get to see Parnelli Jones' bronco? 😁❤️🤗
Knew that there would be atleast one comment that goes something like this. I'm not a Ford guy but. Lol gotta love it.
We love you Jay!!!
She said "Bang it out".... Yes please, hahaha
Thanks for the video/show.
Met Shelby Hall, Rods granddaughter, up in Reno with this rig or one just like it. Can't post pics on here. I really think its the same one. Shelby said they got it out of the museum to race it.
Yep its the same one. Shelby busted a tie rod so I got to help them get back to and on the trailer.
Great piece of history, & a great video. Hope you are doing well, get better soon my friend!
AN Honest True, Engine Bay!! And it is Gorgeous!!
Funny, first time Jay didn't know all the facts and details... Maybe it's time for jay to visit Glamis sand dunes, (thanks giving weekend)
I'm confused. First, they say it has a 4-speed manual, then they say it has a C6 automatic??
Same here, they even show 3 pedals on the floor then in another shot the automatic shifter
And when they're driving it, it appears to have the automatic.
Its had an engine change, the new "crate engine" has an auto box.
The original engine would have been a manual box.
@@grimreaper8209 The third pedal/clutch is welded to the brake.
When originally raced it had a Toploader 4speed, and never raced with a stock Bronco 302 (which had 200HP in '68), but with a Stroppe built 302 good for typically 325-425HP depending on your abilities, gauged by Bill.
I remember seeing this car plus one Stroppe built for Ted nugget in long beach I meet Hall and Mr. HARLEY WHO I THINK helped build it .and Jay ran into me at the long beach grand prix when he got a free t-shirt. Take care Jay and keep on keeping car history alive.
Glad to see you are back and okay.AS soon as I heard I started praying for you.
Driving Baja 50 consecutive years. Racing there at nearly 80.
As the poet/ philosopher Darth Vader put it-"impressive".
BTW, I noticed that we didn't get to see Jay get into the truck. 😉
Great episode, thanks to Amy for bringing this piece of rolling history by.
Very cool piece of motorsports history. Love those old broncos.
Awesome. Thank you
11:50 That sounds about right! Awesome enginesound 🎵
I saw it race in Baja, sounded a lot louder back then, Thanks Jay
Wow that things a hoss. We’ve got a 67 Sport in the garage waiting for some love. It’s my daughters dream to fix it up….
Great guest Jay thanks!
Jay you always have the coolest things on your show love watching you you’re awesome hope all is well merry Christmas
Awhh, so cool. Glad you're doing so well Jay.
This would have been funner, if Jay would have shown her Craig Ferguson's "OLD" Bronco.
I'm off to Amazon to watch her doc.
Coolest little truck ever ❤
Wonder if this was co-developed with Parnelli Jones and his “Big Oly” Baja Bronco? These were legendary for sure! 💯🏁
Wish it could had been longer, with more info about, amongst other thing, the transmission, suspension and a few images from the documentsry about M. Hall.
Bill Stroppe built the Bronco equivalently of the Shelby Mustangs. The Stroppe Broncos were all V8s my friend bought one new in 1971 it had a Boss 302 and a four-speed. Definitely well over the 100 horsepower 200 cubic in 6 .lol
maybe a cobra engine not a boss 302 (unless it was swapped in). Ford only did a prototype with that engine
@@MarianoACV The Boss 302 was installed new by Bill Stroppe's Long Beach shop. It was available on special order. Standard Stroppe Broncos had 200 horsepower two barrel 302s with headers being the only power adder due to smog regulations. Special order vehicles like those with the Boss 302 power could only be delivered outside the state of California. Much like Shelby he would build special orders any Way you want it. In 1967 one Southern California dealership built Broncos with 271 horsepower 289's.
Saw Jay on an interview, and you couldn't even tell he had the accident. He was cracking jokes, and making the interviewer laugh. He is one of a kind.
So great to hear. Thank you for the info. Worried about him. Love this guy so much (in a very heterosexual way of course).
Man I guess we missed a great comedy skit with Jay climbing in.
As a Canadian it's funny to see the name PUROLATOR as that is for oil and air filters in the States. Here in Canada it's our post office owned courier company. It had been the filter companies delivery arm before it was sold to the post office i believe.
Glad to see Jay is doing well!
I like how they lowered the bonnet at snails pace yet a minute prior Amy said she had the bronco doin 100 mph
Hey Jay, quick spot, the Bronco was sponsored by Purolator (rear quarter panel), when you showed us the Ford 347 crate engine it had a K&N Air Filter. LOL
It had a K&N outerwear.
No real off road racer uses a K&N filter. The engine wouldn't last thru the race.
That's a VERY cool Bronco!!!
Aurora/AFX HO scale slot cars had this Bronco as one of the cars.
glad to see him getting better and recovering.
Hi from the UK it's good to see you have made a good recovery from your accident? I was wondering if you ever wanted to own the legendary Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 3 Door? It has always amazed me you don't have one in your collection!
Looking good Jay!
Jey Leno should team up with Richard Hammond's Garage known us The Smallest COG. There are magic stuff they can do, with great new painting owen and talented team out of this World.
Jay, consider moving to Florida. I'm in Sarasota, where Brian Johnson (AC/DC) and Jerry Springer live, and people just say hi when they see them. No cameras or paparazzi. Brian is also a car guy. I think your life would be much easier here without people asking you questions every time you're at a gas station. I wait tables/ tend bar when I'm not flying airplanes and have met them both dozens of times and everyone leaves them alone.
Love that!
Just wanted to say glad to know Jay is OK
Nice one Jay! reminds me a bit of my LR Defender 90 pickup (300 TDi) but with more power. LR would only get to an indicated 150km/h on a downhill on a good road. Magic off-road though.
