  • We've been lucky enough to have the opportunity to test a bunch of different sim rig motion systems over the years, but this steps things up a few notches. With 4 inches of travel and acceleration of 800mm per second, it's capable of absolutely brutal force feedback for your entire sim rig. But it also comes with a HUGE price tag. So let's find out what that money gets you!

    I use a SimLab P1X chassis extruded aluminum, along with Motion House Motion Gear's 4UN 4 corner motion actuator system with 6" of travel. It's basically identical to this in every way nearly and I couldn't imagine sim racing any other way ever again. Once you go motion, anything less just wont do. Static chassis racing just feels completely numb to me to the point of nausea as the motion platform I use simulates so well what your brain expects to be feeling and inside VR it's a match made in Heaven.
    Generally what I've found with the 6" travel is that it gives more overhead to play with before clipping occurs in the motion actuators. Basically if you utilize the full travel then it can simulate steeper angles such as going up or down a steep road and still have the extra travel needed for chassis / suspension motion like heave and surge without clipping due to hitting that hard limit on travel. This also helps with the feeling of acceleration and braking. A 1.5" travel setup would barely be able to allow you to feel going up or downhill let alone simultaneously perform heave and roll motions. I'm also not saying systems with shorter travel aren't worth it but one needs to keep their expectations in check. How will it feel going up a hill with the front raised 1.5" and the back lowered 1.5" vs a 6" travel 6" in the front up and 6" in the back down? Big difference. I got my setup from Motion House for $5k USD minus the chassis which I bought from SimLab for $750 USD I believe it was.

    Great review again😀 You could benefit lot on comfort, and also motion feel adjusting your rig so that you sit more forward. I think pedals, uprights and seat can be brought forward a lot. It is important to seat as close as you can get at center of rotation. Also lowering seat as much as lets you turn motion more agressive, without feeling of sitting at top of pole. Very, very important specially at vr.

    Excellent video! Agree that fast actuators are a must for a good car simulator. FI..I DIYed fast (1.8Kw/max500mmsec) and long travel (up to 750mm - only use a fraction of that for cars :-)) actuators and found that I needed a design that allowed the actuators to be hard mounted to the floor, as the rig will walk or smash around in a cup with that speed and rig/body inertia. All the best.

At considerably lower price point compared to the DBOX and Quibic.

    It is possible that You make a test, compare and review of sim SEATS?
    Would be awesome to see different types of seats (with flat and deep back, with short and long base, which is the most supportive, for big and thin guy etc.) and to know which is the real deal for sim racing and not for massive price 😇😊
    Thank You for Your answer 🤝❤

      Unlikely. They’re too expensive to ship to us in Australia so it’s rare the rigs we review are sent with seats.

    Awesome, I have been shopping for a motion sim but in no rush as I want something that will last and I have kept up with your reviews to help come to a decision hopefully soon. But, tell us Will, is this replacing the dbox on your main rig?
    And have you considered reviewing vesaro motion systems and racing sim hardware?

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  Год назад +2

      Not sure if it’ll replace the Dbox yet. I have to run the motion low for recording FPV videos anyway and the Dbox is very practical for that purpose.

    • @biz0r07

      Vesaro is just reselling DBox so if he got one of those rigs it would end up being a review of the rig itself, not the motion system

      I don't have them yet, however the install is pretty straight forward and all the reviews for them are really good which is why I'm going that route. There are a number of videos on the RS that you can view to see if it's the system for you but I think you will be very happy with what you find.

    Awesome review. I was wondering if you ever get the opportunity, could you review the QUBIC SYSTEM - QS-210-PL 3-DOF 4 Axis Motion system. It's 2500 euros cheaper than the 220 model at 7000 euros, which makes it a lot cheaper than the d-box motion which (is 8750 euros) has just under 40mm of while the qubic 210 still has 60mm of travel. I think that would be very interesting. By the way all the prices I mentioned are with tax.
