As one who has walked w/ the Lord for over 65 yrs. now, (& been thro incredible losses), I would like to suggest 2 books that have brought me so much comfort thro the years. I believe they’re still in print…I picked mine up (not knowing the treasures they would be for me), at Goodwill for like a $1 each. One was brand new & the other only had marks on the dedication page. By Tyndall: 1. “The One Year book of Bible Promises” (Each day has a verse & a short themed-devotion). 2. “The One Year book of Personal Prayer” (Each day has a verse; then a short (but powerful) prayer about that verse & then a quote from various people). (They’re chunky, elegant-looking books.) May God bring comfort through whatever gift you give your Mom. What a loving daughter you are to care in that way. Blessings to you both!

Biblical Theology Study Bible, NIV, General Editor D. A. Carson, best study notes I have read so far. This Bible was formerly known as the NIV Zondervan Study Bible. Same study notes, but different layout.
Great video. I agree the best translation is the one you will read. I use the NKJV, ESV, and the CSB Study Bible. I occasionally use the NLT and CEB with my son.
my physical Bible is KJV (it has footnotes, cross references and some synonyms for some tricky words) and when I read in the YouVersion Bible app I also read KJV, but I can also compare translations
For a beginner, may I recommend my own every day carry, the CSB? The Christian Standard Bible was created to be the perfect blend of "true to the word" and "readable", and many people online do find this to be the case. Don't ask me though, I've only started a few months ago and am just up to Leviticus 7. Although the words do kinda fall into my lap compared to my NASB 1995 or my NKJV, with how mentally exhausted I tend to be, that may not be such a bad thing. Two things I have heard though are that there is a Bible out there for everyone, and the best Bible you have is the one you keep reaching for.
Hey! I just want to say thank you for sharing. And I like that shirt on you it compliments your skin so well. And I want to encourage you to keep going no matter what life throws at you always remember that God got you. ✨
I absolutely loved this video! Thank you for sharing! The Daily Grace Co. has this SUPER cool book called The Theology Handbook, and on page 94 there is an awesome chart about the translations. I used to use NIV and NKJV pretty much my whole life growing up and even into adulthood, but now that I'm nearing 40, I have been super interested in other translations. I have recently fallen in love with the NLT; it's so easy to read and just lovely to enjoy and understand. This video really reassured me about something, too! My husband and I just chose a bible for his mother for Mother's Day, and we happened to choose the Thrive Bible. I am SO glad to hear an opinion on it and I am now very excited for her to receive it! @@susannahfriesenofficial I myself mostly use KJV, but I'm going to second NKJV and NASB95 (_not_ NASB2020) as recommendations. Holman especially is a good publisher to go with.

If you are a beginner bible commentery is VERY important. John McArther NKJV one year bible is also a great choice. I’d just keep in mind they are both good translations but anyone should always strive to graduate from a thought for thought translation to a word for word translation especially to study the Word of God.
I threw away all of my Sarah Young books once I found out about her. But I do like a lot of the other ones you mentioned. I use Mr.Pen Bible products I really them because they don’t smear as bad as others and think they write really well.
I went for many years with basically just the KJV until I actually got pretty used to it. But since I know it is challenging to so many people I have branched out. I like the MEV (Modern English Version) second best because they used the same source documents as the KJV. In the late 19th century the Greek text was edited by a couple people with very questionable history and letters they wrote to one another show that they didn't believe Jesus did any miracles -- and worse, they both became members of a spiritualist group (that practiced necromancy, i.e., trying to communicate witht he dead), which is absolutely forbidden in the Bible. Overall and partly no doubt due to others who have edited and re-edited the Greek text who were really believers, not TOO much damage was done as far as I know, but to me the most grievous was their placing DOUBT in the words Jesus said to the disciples about the demonized boy who the disciples had been unable to deliver from the demon spirit(s). Jesus had responded that with that kind of demon PRAYER AND FASTING was needed. This was taken OUT of the edited Greek text, though I think in most modern bibles a footnote will be given stating that those words were missing from some manuscripts, placing doubt on Jesus's words. I think it is a very good idea to have one KJV just to compare verses from time to time -- or an MEV which has a couple of burps in it but is mostly a good modern translation of the KJV (whereas the "New King James" used different manuscripts than the KJV). Maybe too much information, but I am a big believer in the SPIRITUAL POWER of combining prayer and fasting and I think it's very sad indeed that the edited Greek text places doubt on that. God bless! P.S. Nowadays my FAVORITE Bibles, all that said, are the NLT, NIV and easy-reading bibles made for those who have English as a second language as I love the simplicity of the message in those bibles.
Very Good! Am sort of a King James Bible only. Although if you are a beginner, NLT and ESV will be fine. Just sure there are good study Bibles. The those five books you recommend to read, are my favourites
Firstly, I want to start off with saying your video is wonderful and informative for those beginning their religious/spiritual journey. Wonderfully done, and keep it up! As for markers, I use regular pencil crayons (a.k.a. coloured pencils) to mark my Bible, it's affordable, last nearly forever, and never ever bleeds through the insanely thin pages. You can use them to highlight verses or words by shading the whole section or just underlining, each carrying a different meaning. Now to my main point, I have read many different versions of the Bible (KJV, KJV 1611, NIV, ESV, NASB, Interlinear Bible, and the Geneva Bible) and have found the KJV to be the best to learn and study from because it is closest to the original text while somewhat close the modern English. Something to remember is that both God and Jesus speak in parables, which is why being close the original is better as it preserves the original meaning and context of the scriptures and is open to your personal interpretation and not from someone else perspective. Each time someone grows their perspective changes and with that also the meaning of certain verses, thus further increasing your personal spiritual growth. Note: Just like in school you always want to learn from source documents not someone else's opinion/interpretation. This will always give you truth.
I agree 100%. My very first Bible was a KJV, but it was a children's Bible. My parents got it for me when I was very young. When I was in my teens I bought a NIV Women's Study Bible, and then about ten years ago I bought a NKJV, after realizing that the NIV has entire scriptures missing. Intentionally. It wasn't a printing error. I've used that NKJV a LOT, so it's showing some wear, and I've had to repair the spine once already so I've bought a few more since then, and have gravitated back towards the KJV. As a side note, I recently got some seriously old KJV Bibles at an estate sale. They are in fair condition, and one has notes in the margins from the original owner. It is really neat to see how older Bibles were made, and how they compare to what is being made today.

Please compare the KJV to the rest of your Bibles. I care for you and don’t want you to be deceived. Please look at Luke 2:22. Most of the translators take away from this verse. Anyway KJV states “and when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord. The rest I’m sorry take away from his deity. Most say their purification. My Lord was pure. He needed not to be purified. Please consider. Love you Sister. God Bless.

But when I kept having little checks in my spirit & then ?’d some of her Biblical soundness, I decided to find out more about her.
When you learn of her New Age/psychic background story about writing “Jesus Calling”, I doubt you’ll recommend it again.
I know I don’t. 🫶🏼
thank you for your comment! I will definitely do some research, however this devotional, regardless of her background really did help me grow stronger in my faith and I do find a lot of biblical truth in it. I will do some research though!
@@susannahfriesenofficial LongForTruth1 did some good videos on it - a good channel to follow.
