Basic tools in a home garage; great video series concept! Too many videos today are about purchasing someone else's product. I'll be looking forward to more.
Nice job ,i really enjoyed watching ,and the finished product! Now if i could just find an old wish bone real inexpensive for my Ratrod fifty two Ford f1 project, thank you so much ,keep up the great work !
Michael,Thanks for sharing. For your future projects, you will be much happier with your finished result if you tack weld both sides before starting any semi-continuous weld bead leading to distortion. You'll probably be much happier with some cutoff wheels to go on that Dewalt instead of using the hack saw, but then again, you'll be changing that white shirt in the middle of that project.
Always use anti seize on the tie rod before spinning it in to the threaded bung.I spun one in dry once, and it would not come out....galled .locked up solid ,and this was by hand.
The plug welds while a good thought and needed were wasted by only welding to the spacers instead of the bungs. holes should have been drilled in both. otherwise nice video. I have vertical, horizontal and portable bandsaws and still use my hack saw daily.
You will need to find yourself a 32 transmission crossmember to do that conversion and it will become complicated to make the mechanical brakes work but it is possible.
As he was welding, he was making a vertical weld. When you are using a mig welder, vertical weld are made from the top down. And with a stick welder vertical welds are done from the bottom up. In both cases you get a superior weld hold the filler at an angle of 15 degrees if at all possible.
90% of all current welding instruction and testing has shown virtually no difference between pulling and pushing while MIG welding. But ya back in the 70s when I learned pushing was the way it was drilled into us. Myself, I find pulling creates a flatter bead while pushing a bit raised but what the hell, does it really matter.
the word "fitment" that car people like to use makes me want slit my wrist, but weldment?? how about "weldington"? it's even more unnecessary. how about "unnecessaryment? this is getting stupidment. i'm donement. one more thing, buy some cut-off wheels for your 4" grinderment.

apronment in the shopment.
Great how to video. Clear, concise and a great topic too.
Thanks for sharing.
Great video. Thanks. I am splitting old ford tractor radius rods for my roadster very similar.
EXACTLY what I was looking for! Thanks!

I agree with Roy and i would have welded the spacers to the bung first and then inserted them and welded them in
whilst chamfering the holes for weldment. my auto correct puts a red line under mis-spelled words. weldment has a red line under it.
well done !
Damn good tutorial.
fascinating, I've always wondered about this!
A great help.
Well please tell us why wishbones won't work when split? I have em on my 22 T Truck and they seem fine.

Second that . They plug-welded only the spacers, not the bungs. So it's not as strong as it should be.
Good video
I am all for safety, but safety glasses when using a hacksaw. that,s a new one .
what about that nice red chop saw on the floor with a metal cut off blade already in it?
This is a good idea to fit a 32 transmission on my model A but mechanical brakes will still work?

Do you have a video where you built a front axle for a hot rod?
that's old school even used a hack saw
where can I find the sp frame mount brackets?
I have a 1928 modle a can I use that year is it strong for a say 283 chev or 289 ford
Need some power tools. That hack saw is just too much work.
You should be pushing your weld and not dragging it chief.

omg destroying a antique car part. why not make your own wish bone?
Only been done for 60+ years and millions upon millions produced so I don't think he's hurting anything here.
i dont think it was a 32 ford!! wishbone, they are 700 bucks, i bet it was a model a bone, you can get them all day long

Thumbs upment!
