    They did a great job at showing how appreciative Brian was with the studio musicians, and how much respect he gave them....never once was he demanding or acting like a premadonna....

    Paul is such a unique actor with alot of insight into the complex personality of the character he plays.... he nails it when he says Brian Wilson never developed the layers of protection from hurt that happens when people grow up and become adults...the child abuse and the feelings of insecurity that Brian had were made worse by the drugs and alcohol abuse,both he and his brother Dennis never were prepared for the change and many disappointments that happen when you become an adult.

    his impression, though subtle, of Brian’s voice is really excellent, like you here him in the movie and think “that actually kind of sounds of him” but think it must be how Paul actually talks but it really isn’t and don’t realize it until you actually here him.

    Paul, I just finished watching the movie on Hulu it was incredible! I want to see a theatre but it was limited in my area. In have been a Brian Wilson fan all my life. The music of multiple generations. You were awesome! I have never seen anything in my 56 years of life that has affected me more than today. Love & Mercy like Pet Sounds is a masterpiece. it me laugh and cry and most of all give me hope. Thank God for having your path touch Brian's. Thank you!

      One year later, the Fabs spliced strawberry fields together in two different keys. Brian = All 4 Fabs + George Martin.

    • @jpenns
      @jpenns 3 года назад +10

      @@rman52 musically what Brian had going on in his head, two bass lines in two different keys for one song, is actually far more complex than the splicing the Beatles did, where it's the same song that just happened to be recorded in two different keys and two different speeds, and slowing one down happened to match them up. Not to say that one of these groups is better than the other but that splice was just some technical matching up that John asked Martin and Emerick to do, whereas Brian's arrangements were truly complex, and all in his head.

    • @rman52
      @rman52 3 года назад +1

      @@jpenns I think Brian is brilliant too. But basses in 2 diff keys is not a big deal for a real composer. Keys mean nothing in a way. An A# in one key is an A# in another. It depends on what you do with it. Brian's greatest gift is writing incredible harmonies and melodies. Especially the melodies which are among the most ethereal ever in popular music.

    was sure a daring move to cast two different actors but I think it was a good choice. Brian was a changed man after 1978 or so. Serious drug abuse and mental issues as we all know. Landy was called in for a second time by the family to revive Brian, and he actually got him moving and in shape but his mind control stuff took over and the psychotropic drugs (wow, spell check didnt even correct that!) were having horrid results that have never receded.
    So, one step forward, two back in a way. Cusack probably does a better job than the more baby faced Dano could have for those later years.

      John Cusak's job was to make you believe he was Brian at a much later time. Given they look absolutely nothing alike, I think he did an admirable job because at times I forgot the difference, but yes, Paul Dano was stellar. Just so happens that the Paul that played that awful Dr. Landy was shocking in how good he was. I love the Disney movie "Saving Mr. Banks, " Paul Giamatti played the driver with a big heart and did it so well that seeing him as Landy was a bit upsetting...until, of course, common sense kicked it. It just showed what an excellent actor he is. IMO, every one of the actors did an excellent job with a tough subject. It's nice to have the story out there, it had to be painful. There is no saying who was better, they were all good. But this Paul Dano had to play a part most would not even know how to broach. Well done! I thought Elizabeth Banks' expressions when reacting to the different situations was superb. I don't know of anyone who hasn't been touched by this movie after watching it.

      I loved jc in this movie. I liked the 2 different actor approach because Brian during pet sounds is different than Brian on the late 80's . they both movie wise played 2 different people. And so what jc looks nothing like Brian Paul looks nothing like Eugene Landy but no one complained about that.
