  • Hi all - In today’s video I’ll show you how I care for the Angrecum Didieri Orchid. This is a lovely highly fragrant orchid species from Madagascar. The fragrance is really nice IMO once it mellows out. Initially it was very strong and a bit plasticky then it turned sort of floral and powdery.
This video is a care collaboration with:
Ninja Orchids: • Angraecum didieri | Ma...
    Eds orchids: / @edsorchids
    Orchideya: • Angraecum didieri #Car...
The name of the game with this one is high humidity and airy roots! Also, patience, it grows really slowly! I fertilize this orchid like my other orchids. It gets cattleya level light.

Im in Long Island and grow mine in a wood basket with Leca. It loves to completely dry out! I haven’t found a scent on mine. I can get away with 10 or more days without watering! In the winters it gets watered once a week and summers 2-3 times. Have fun growing!

Thanks so much for watching! Very interesting on the scent not appearing for you. Mine is very strong. I've had orchids that others said was fragrant, and I detected nothing as well. Always fascinating how this stuff pans out. Thanks for watching ☺️

I recommend LAOrchidJohn/Louisiana Orchid Connection for Angraecoids, mostly seedlings tho. I got my Angraecum dollii from him and I recently purchased a replacement because I think I fried the roots on my original dollii, so I think he gets the rarer angraecoids pretty regularly. Also I just saw that Orchid Web has NBS/BS dollii in stock.

Thank you for a great insight into growing indoors this beautiful plant. I have just acquired one, two weeks ago, and am watching anything that is relevant. Which way does your window face, out of interest? I am in Scotland, UK and have mine mounted, as received, on a piece of cork. I spray it daily with rainwater and feed weekly.

You're very welcome! I grow these under led lights, I have them next to my cattleyas, so I'm giving them intense light. I hear these do well mounted! Your daily sprays and feeding sound like a good plan!

I've started wrapping the net pots with Polyfil pillow stuffing and stuffing it back in the outer pot to maintain more humidity directly around any roots growing out of the net pot. I received a number of seedling Cattleya from Hawaii potted in the net pots and, usually, I lose the roots that have grown out of the pot, the polyfil seems to have solved that (in the past I used sphagnum but that was too much moisture). I'm seriously wondering if Polyfil can't be used as a medium in and of itself. It would require more frequent watering than moss (and possibly bark) but wouldn't hold nutrients and wouldn't break down and it is super airy. Need to find something to experiment with....

Very interesting! I can see how it's an airy type material that can hold humidity in nicely! Thanks for sharing, this one definitely needs high humidity levels and you can tell with those dead roots outside if the pot. Good idea for an experiment!
