They should have also loaned you a Jeep Grand Cherokee or something small like that to really test that dexter sway control system. Can't tell you how many white knuckle drivers I've seen living on a prayer towing trailers without even an anti-sway bar or weight distribution.
For the trailer itself, it looks like they're trying to be premium...but I would never consider any layout where you have to crawl over someone to get out of bed premium.

@@ADONAIsays-so gas stove or not the first thing I do to any RV is rip out the gas/electric fridge, replace it with a standard 120V refrigerator and close the vents that the were needed for the old fridge. I don’t like them. They take forever to cool down, the freezer always ices up and I have wasted so much meat that didn’t stay properly in the freezer. A standard 120v compressor refrigerator will keep food fresher for longer and can run just fine in a 1-2 KWH power station if it is recharged either with solar or a generator.

I agree that the 50 amp power connection doesn't make sense. I don't know that running the heat pump, microwave, and induction cooktop simultaneously would draw even 3000 watts, much less 3600. Even though we have a 50 amp power connection in our Grand Design 278BH, it's pretty unusual that we use more than 30 amps total at a time.

Like the lay-out. The cabinet's are dangerous and I'd wish for a tiny bit more space. Width for a normal bed (6in.)and length for a pantry and towel shelf.(1ft.) Of course double axle would be necessary anyway.

Hello I have been camping around fifty years an have probably had just about every other kind of camper . Also I am a ex truck driver so I think of these things. The MAIN THING I SEE . Mainly because of it being a single axle but it happens with two axles . Also with you having your 450 you are not paying attention to this
    As much an 90
Percent of the people that would purchase this unit would have just a regular truck. This unit has this GREAT BIG STORAGE BAY in the BACK WICH IS A
NO NO . People would be a lot more likely to OVER OVER OVER LOAD this
unit in the back for the main reason if not have big storage inside near front. With that over load IN THE BACK CAN AN WILL WILL WILL BE DEADLY BY PEOPLE NOT KNOWING OR NOT THINK. Just a thought but there is a lot I also like about this unit . Thanks

  • @Garth2011

First thing they need to replace is the bathroom vent/fan toy. That fan is useless and noisy. That other cool Max needs to be in there since there's a need to move air and steam. I'm also fairly sure that one element stove won't work for many. Needs a couple of burners and a decent exhaust fan/hood.
For the gross weight, seems like 4 tires would be best. What make is the refrigerator you think works so well?

It is about a good size you could get a lowboy trailer put this and a horse trailer on and take both behind your 450 to the mountains to go riding. lol. It is pretty nice if they worked with a horse trailer company and put a nice interior in a horse trailer they could expand the market. Also I have commented this for years but the flooring for pontoon boats work well in some of these little campers since it can be cleaned easier. I have seen many are using it instead of carpet but even for regular flooring it cleans well.

Baffled as why GD obsesses with such low cargo carrying capacity. They did the same thing with their new Class C. Beef up the axles and frame so the CCC is like 1500. If you remember the pop-up trailers, they're ridiculous low CCC resulted in axles bending. GD all ready has problems with their frame flex; so, why not make a beefy towable and a beefy Class C.

When you are in your twenties and athletic the little campers work better. When you are much older, your joints are not so good, your weight is not so good, the little campers are not as fun. Very nice looking camper. I would want an outside cook area if I had kids and especially if I had my kids friends with and staying in tents, need to have outside cooking to deal with many starving teens. Having the awning with legs especially if you have tie downs and it would cover the outside cooking area.
I like the 1960s style of set up in it. The small 1960s campers were pretty awesome in the 1970-1980s. The european campers have stolen the 1940s to 1970s style campers. Hopefully they are not like the european campers where they explode into thousands of pieces in a minor accident.
The RV queen is the size a queen mattress sells for in Mexico and south. You can get sheets and things if you make your local store in Mexico and it will ship to USA. At least that work a few years ago for me.

My quick comment - The bathroom sink needs a lot more thought.

I personally could not live with that type of bed. Our 2006, 23 foot R-Vison TT has a walk around bed. Queen short is the most common. But yeah, seems like a full for sure. Our trailer has soooo much storage with a panty and utensil drawers and a cabinet for pots and pans. We looked at new comparable TTs and none has what we have. We are spoiled as I am sure you are in your large 5th wheel.

Chad & Tara: "cute little rig" for short interval camping, especially if you are going to move around with all tanks full/nearly full it doesn't allow for much additional weight in forms of baggage, grill, etc....with tanks full leaves only 152 pounds (974 lbs =CCC MINUS 822 lbs full tanks).
I think it needs greater weight carrying axles & stronger frame. "just my opinion"

I can appreciate what GD is trying to do here but no way I'd buy this over an Intech trailer. The only advantage here is not having a wet bath. Cargo capacity is a joke for the amount of storage space. People will overload this trailer. And a single burner in the kitchen?? Come on.

    Thanks for the thorough review.
I'll bet backing that short thing up with your 450 is fun! :-)
Wondering how much of the storage is accessible from the inside.
Are those drawers under the bed?
Does it have an electronic antenna for the TVs?
We don't really care for that many windows in the sleeping area.
The little corner cubbies above are nice.
Did you realize that those reading lights in the bedroom have USB ports also.
What are the other outlets up in the corners?
Our AC in our Imagine 17MKE is noisy as well.
Too many gadgets just provides the opportunity for that many more things to go wrong.
Don't see the necessity for the fancy stabilizing system on something that small.
Does that tongue jack prevent a tailgate from being lowered? We had to rotate ours 90 deg on our 17MKE to be able to get the tailgate down while connected.
I like your idea of splitting the lighting control fore and aft (shout out to your Navy service Chad).
    How bout also adding dimmers.
We like the popup power port in the counter top. Will think about adding one to our 17MKE.
What is behind that panel in the upper kitchen cabinet? Seems like a waste of volume for just three switches.
Is there really a need for two ceiling fans in something that small, especially with the space above the barn door to the bathroom. It's hard to get to that knob to open the vent for that one in the bathroom for short folks as well. My wife is 5 ft.
LIking the independent suspension. Hope it addresses GDs problems with bent axles and funky tire wear
What's speed rating on the tires?
Where does the stinky slinky and other sewer supplies go?
Very glad you guys like each other. We all can tell over all your other videos.
    Daisy is still the cutest.
Thanks for a wonderfully well done, informative and entertaining channel.

Looks to be a nice step up from old, single axle trailers. I, too, see the CCC of 974 lbs to be 50% of the minimum to be realistic. 2 30 gal holding tanks, plus 39 gal of water, plus 50lbs of propane, 50 lbs for a spare tire, 20 lbs jack, bedding, clothing, oh yes, some food, outdoor chairs, some tools, you get my drift! Perhaps a good topic for a video or two would be: Is my documented by the manufacturer dry wt of the rig anywhere near the actual wt. as measured on a CAT Scale? THIS IS IMPORTANT IF THE GVWR is realistic for safe operation. THE MORE THE ACTUAL DRY WT IS, the less you should carry so as to be within manufacturer’s design. Most Rv’ers never weigh their rigs, regardless of type; ask them! Very detailed, thoughtful review by both of you. Thank you, Rollo

This looks like a nice trailer. First, I gotta give it to Grand Design: they know how to do windows. There's a lot of outdoor storage, and that's a good idea on the steps. Excellent Ace Ventura, Tara!😂
The interior is understandably cosy yet well optimized. I look forward to a factory tour showing off it's structural design. I'm not usually taken with trailers, but the Serenova intrigues me enough to want to see more. Thanks for the tour, Chad, Tara, and Daisy.💙🤍❤️👍🏾

Interesting. The challenge to evaluating this trailer is the context of size so I had to take that into consideration. As for me...
Pros: Windows and shades, Awning, Front seating area, Separate shower, External storage well utilized, Independent suspension, 60,000 BTU heater, and I like that they did not tuck the tires under the trailer but left them on the outside with a nice fender.
Cons: Separate gray and black is a NO, Induction cooktop, No obvious way to secure that barn door when traveling, Sink in bathroom (seen in another brands truck campers and was a failure), Not having a spring-loaded electrical popup on the counter, Garbage fan in the bathroom, Too small of a bed with no way to get out for a midnight bathroom need for whoever is on the far side, Hard pass on loud A/C units!!!!!!
    Thanks for the tour! Excellent!

Wish the bed was a regular queen mattress and more space to walk around the bed. The bathroom sink needs to go. it's terrible. Im surprised the awning is not wider, taking the length of the RV. Overall, it's a beautiful camper, but the bed situation would be a deal breaker. Would like to see more space in that bedroom. Thank you for sharing!

It's a neat little travel trailer and well designed but has some issues. The bathroom sink is a little 'meh', and a 2000 watt inverter seems a bit small for all the electrical items inside. The bathroom vent fan is the same one that our Grand Design 278BH had, and it didn't take long for us to realize that it was terrible, so I pulled it out and replaced it with a much better one with a remote control. There's no way that a single burner would be sufficient for many who cook much. Also, given that lithium batteries are so popular, I would like to see a spot inside the trailer for them, not just on the trailer tongue.

The table at the front area was great, I've never seen an articulated table ( if that's what it would be called ) much better than doing the bent over two step shuffle.
I'm afraid this would be too small to live in full time.

Hi Chad and Tara, I have watched a few of your RUclips videos now and decided to subscribe, I live in the UK and we have nothing the size of your 5th wheel (which is stunning by the way) the Serenova is the average size of the UK rv's know as caravans. Not sure why the double fixed bed has to be so high up. I think a better design would be to lower it.
I would be an absolute dream of mine to be able to do what you do and explore the USA in a Class A or 5th wheel. You are so much better set up than us, we do not have black, grey and fresh water tanks in our caravans and when we go to camp sites we have electric hook up but most of the time you have to use a barrel for water at a filling station and dump your chemical toilet in a slot in a wall.

Can you hang your motorcycle off the back, or on the tongue. Certainly you can't travel with it inside like you do in your toy hauler! You probably can't bring your electric bikes with you either.

Our e-bikes fit in the truck, but we opted to not bring them this trip.

Batteries need to be inside. If you upgrade to lithium, they can't be outside. Love seeing y'all trying new things.

      @patrickrobichaux 2 дня назад +1

I keep mine outside. You just can't camp below freezing and expect your batteries to take a charge.

    • @williambouchard4480

I agree, however some of the newer LifePo4 batteries have a heater that allow the battery to be outside and it will keep the battery warm enough so it can be charged. I'm sure it's more expensive.

@@felishagathright4013 Good point. Most trailers just have the plastic box, but ours has a metal case with a lock. My point was that lithium can be outside.

First, I want to thank you both for being completely transparent that as ambassadors, y’all were asked to try out this model. NONE of the other RV RUclipsr’s have been. AND a big thank you for stating the CCC immediately. The other RV RUclipsr’s hedged around that issue completely. I would like to know what your fully loaded weight turned out to be, and whether you were able to stay under the CCC max.
As for the rig, it’s attractive looking. I loved the amount of exterior storage. Seems well thought out. Loved the windows!!! Didn’t love the cheap window shades. Thought the interior was well thought out, but, the overhead bins are horrible! They should be designed like airplane overhead bins. Would solve a lot of problems, and head injuries. Think the microwave placement is fine, and am really impressed with the under sink cutout drawer! Ingenious!
Thank you for a great video, and some wonderful Daisy sighting!
PS: Tara is looking much better!

Thank you for sharing. My wife and I have a 16 foot wolf pup (no slide dry wt 2800). It is large enough for us & our ferocious creature ( 10 pound cat). It pulls easy and like you say fits in a lot of places. Can’t wait to see the videos on how you use it. Safe travels and keep up the good work - Kurt

Nice cabinetry, the outside is fine. The interior floorplan was really awkward for a couple. The bath across from the kitchen was a no go. Wish they had put the bath and bedroom where the dinette area is, then the kitchen and a couch on the opposite side with swing side trays instead of a dinette. Just prefer more division to give some privacy, if someone is sleeping while another is working. Congrats for getting through the testing experience!

What this really reminds me of is a b van in terms of both layout and the convection microwave instead of an oven is very common on motorhomes.
