      While raising two huskies, I observed that the more time you spend with them with consistent physical activity (walks x2 day minimum), obedience training (intellectual pursuits), playtime (including physical touching, rubbing coats, brushing, etc) they grow up to be very grounded, well-adjusted dogs. Props to Callie's owners - her behavior reflects their relationship of her! She is also older - which makes the Huskies run out of steam quicker... but they will be more tolerant of attention/touching care when raised and grounded with purpose as - you guessed it - WORKING DOGS.

      @@Cat-Washing-ton I have a husky cross. I believe he is 75% husky, 25% border collie. He is a nightmare if he missed his run. And I mean run. A walk doesn't cut it. He can run free with no problems. He will run right past squirrels when he is in the running mind zone. His only focus is following me. We can do 10 miles easily with me on my bike averaging maybe 15 mph. After that he is as good as gold. People really do underestimate what a husky needs. Most i see around here are overweight as they are never allowed to run. I would like to go scooter joring with him but I'm not sure he is strong enough. He is very svelte and runs much faster than your average husky.

    Growing up we had a husky/malamute cross who would basically get this procedure done with the help of a few dozen Sparrows and Chickadee's. She'd bask in the sun and just let them land on her and rifle out her undercoat to stuff their nests. It was hilarious to watch them all swarm around her in the early summer and fight over who got to hop up onto her and pick out her loose winter fur.

      @katherines6322 3 года назад +184

      That discoloration actually isn't from cataracts, cataracts are VERY opaque white. A slight discoloration in old age comes from the hardening of the lense - the same thing happens in humans although it isn't visibly apparent in humans (it is why older people need reading glasses). Hardening of the lense is typical aging while cataracts are more of an acute health problem.

      I really appreciate it when people decide they're going to take on that emotional work, and they definitely seem to get a huge amount of joy out of the experience... I guess, just as with people, we never really know how long any pet will be around? I love that your bathing unit has a plastic grid floor. A lot of dogs hate bathing because they don’t feel secure as they can’t get traction on the slipper surface of metal, acrylic, or porcelain tubs. Nice extra touch that shows how much you care about your K9 clients.

    Aww! Sweet husky. Thank you for being specific and spelling out the tools you use. It’s very helpful. Wish we lived close to you. I’ve got at least one older furbaby I’d love to have you groom. She’s a lab/heeler mix, huge, and does the heavy sit thing. Makes it very hard to get her into the shower and bathe and groom her.
