Hi Nelle! Belly dance is fabulous for every BODY! I teach all my classes step-by-step so you know what's going on, breaking down families of movements, drilling on both sides, gaining better balance and strength as we progress on our belly dance journey! We modify when necessary, and with time it just gets better and easier! Yes, some of the moves look and feel ridiculous at first…kind of like saying a word in a foreign language you’re just learning to speak. IF you repeat the movement (or say the word enough!) eventually it comes more naturally to us. This is the process as we build strength and muscle memory so the movements become fluid. Hip work and shimmies are especially challenging; we need a strong core to ensure good posture because if your chest isn't lifted your hips and shimmies can't shine. Belly dance requires good thigh strength in addition to core strength in order to control body movement. Promise, if you just keep dancing and having FUN, YOU CAN DO THIS! xoxo MissP💃🏽❤

Portia, I am planning to take one of your Wednesday night classes, but I'm not sure I should do beginner or intermediate. I've been using your videos daily since January, and can generally do well with your beginner videos. Your upper level videos I make lots of mistakes, but learn more. Other things to consider--I've studied ballet, tap and Latin (not especially good at any of them) and at the same time, I manage a torn glut medius and adapt some motions and stretches to avoid hurting myself. Are you able to make a recommendation? Thanks! Sorry if this was TMI!
