- Chris English, Joe Cunningham, Alice Caroline, Sarah and Nick from Bernina ...I met all these wonderful people at The Festival of Quilts 2023 and had such interesting conversations.
Chris makes really lively imaginative work. You can find him on Instagram as A Full English.
Joe The Quilter is a musician, artist and thoroughly lovely guy! He has a website, instagram, Patreon and you'll find him on RUclips right here
/ @joethequilter
Alice Caroline has a RUclips channel here / @alicecarolinefabrics
When I met Sarah from the Bernina I was thrilled to find she was from New Zealand! So that is mostly what we talked about of course!
/ @berninainternational
And Nick Ball is the Bernina Long Armer and he has a wonderful instagram! @quiltsfromtheattic
Anna and I arrived at the Festival before the place opened and had the luxury of wandering about with Chris in an almost empty venue. We made more film of Chris and that will be on Patreon soon. My patrons support me to make these videos and are the only sponsors I have! I am grateful to them all! You can check out my Patreon Channel here. Come shopping at the Festival with Chris on September 1st on my Patreon Channel!

Ive seen 2/3 of this man's quilts, and they are nothing compared to what you do. The one you made for Agnes is just breath taking. The one Anna did, was so delightful. I hope you don't compare yourself to his work.
Thanks for sharing Mr. English’s work. I have 2 old quilts that need repair and his bold quilt work has given me courage to tackle it without worry for matching patches.
What l love is the freedom to make a quilt that isn’t perfect, yet is well executed and artful. I have been a quilter for over 30 years and was taught to quilt with tiny stitches and your piecing had to be perfect. Very daunting. But now we can appreciate the point of handmade, and part of the beauty is that it isn’t perfect. Machines make perfect, not humans.
good! break the rules a bit! there room for all styles! xxx
Yes thankyou❤
I loved that flying geese quilt with those Batik yellows and oranges!
Thanks!
Thank you so much Sandy! Sorry I missed this. Thank you for supporting me here xxx
Very enjoyable especially the more radical designs and concepts.thank you.
What a fun trip.
Chris makes such energetic quilts! I love them!
Thanks and this was great fun, even a train ride, see you next time! 😃👍❤️
Kate I love your channel. Started watching as I recovered from knee replacement surgery. It always amazes me how small the world is sitting on the soft green sofa. You interviewed Joe Cunningham at the quilt show. I work in Flint Michigan and when Joe said he was from here I was so amazed. I am now following his channel. Please keep the content coming you always bring joy to my day.
I love Chris English!
I love his quilting philosophy!
Another lovely visit to a quilt show for those who could not go
Thanks for sharing....always amazing watching you......what a great Quilt Show..
Thank you Kate for sharing. Talking to such inspirational quilters as they explain their quilt stories makes me realise why we love quilting. I look forward to seeing Joe here in New Zealand (I do hope he manages to visit).
Lovely video with Anna. So very nice.
The way you interview is very respectful towards the person you're talking to Kate. Thank you for this episode.
thank you - I hope to listen and respect the person - they were all so interesting! xxx
You, my friend, are very interesting & lovely. You do a very good job interviewing. ❤
Such a wonderful show. It was nice to “meet” so many people with you in the interviews. Have a good rest.
Very inspirational! Loved watching as always! Thank you!
Your quilt is like looking down on a flower garden from a ladder, just amazing how you have arranged the colours, anyone can do strips, blocks and triangles, yours is the best in the show.
Throughly enjoyed the festival of quilts from my stitching spot here in New Zealand. Thank you for taking us along too!❤
FABULOUS VIDEO 🙏💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I enjoyed the interview with Joe Cunningham he is very interesting and so talented. I also enjoyed Chris English.
💚 This was all so beautiful and inspiring 💚
So nice that you have run into "my guy, Joe" and you got to talk to him. Isn't he genuinely such a nice person. Brilliant
Lovely, Absolutely Lovely🙌🙏
GREAT video Kate! Thank you.
All these beautiful quilts and designers made me think of a new RUclips quilter. Dave’s Craft Room - is amazing.
thanks for taking us with you and sharing the experience. It was lovely
I absolutely love Chris English’s quilts. My type of quilter.
I think it's lovely that Anna now has the bug, well done
Thank you!!! That was a wonderful video!!!!
What a fun fun time. Loved seeing all the different kinds of quilts and people.
The mountains and countrysides were very beautiful too
Enjoy your Home Sweet Home, always good to get back home. 🌞
Oh my - I too am speechless. Thank you Kate!
Glad to have seen an update with Chris. I was wondering if he'd have a quilt in this year as well. :)
Once again...this was Great!! Thank you!
Wow! What an amazing and inspirational exhibition!
The second quilt shown is amazing! Wow! @ .40 seconds also.
I first watched a video of yours to see what your crumb quilts were like. I have subscribed, and am having so much fun tagging along on all of your creative endeavors. Your smile and enthusiasm are infectious!!
thanks for the trip to the quilt festival!!!
You have a natural charm that is so pleasing to watch....thank you for this delightful visit to The Quilt Festival!
Thank you Anna and Kate for video taping your visit to Birmingham Quilt visit. I was green with envy when you showed all that Liberty fabric.
Wonderful! Really enjoyed the interviews - Joe's quilts had me totally speechless too. Thank you and Anna so much x
Thanks to you and Anna for taking me with you on your trip. I enjoyed it so much. Greetings from the Netherlands.🪡🧵
It's art and I love it. The quilt you displayed is beautiful, from afar it looks something like the heavens.
To roam greets me with respect
Thank you so much Kate....I think you are an excellent interviewer ....
One of the loveliest things about The Festival of Quilts at the NEC is meeting and talking to smashing people from all around the world.
What makes Chris's quilts so precious in my eyes is how unprecious they seem to be. Its like they just happen, the product of a passion of creative working that just needs to unfurl itself and ,'happens' upon the final resulting quilt. I love that.
I had a lovely time walking with you (via the Internet) at the quilt show. Thank you!
Wow , thank you for showing us all those wonderful quilts .
So moving. I wept a little.
Thank you so much for taking all of us on the lime green sofa along to the festival of quilts!
Thank you. His genuine excitement for the creative process is very satisfying to watch.
Nice quilts.
Glory days Kate and Anna - I got my internet back and have enjoyed your Quilt Festival Part One and Two. I cannot travel so I appreciate the lime green sofa and everywhere your channel takes me. You are a friend on my screen and if I saw you in person, I'd have to give you a big hug for all the joy you've brought to my Chromebook screen! Thanks again!!
Thank you Kate and Anna for letting us join you at the festival of quilts xx
I love Chris English's quilts. I like making quilts that way!
Oh, Kate! I’ve loved being at the show with you and Anna. Thank you soooo much!
Excellent interviews! Thank you, Kate and Anna!
Enjoy your trip to the Quilt Festival and the interviews of the artisits!!!!
It’s not just a quilt but a piece of art, made with love!
Love Chris English’s work. So unique and dynamic!
Loved the tar patches quilt - what a good way to make what is often an eyesore, so fun to look at. His Ukraine piece is outstanding! Really liked this guy. Thanks Kate for taking us along on this adventure .
Lovely, Lovely, Lovely ❣️❣️❣️
Kate looks like a Queen strolling around admiring the quilts. ❤Warms my heart❤❤❤❤
I could watch you and your friends all day😊
Thank you so very much for that video. It was truly amazing. What an amazing quilt . Beth
Thank you so much for your videos on the Quilt Festival! So exciting! I laughed a little when you were talking with Joe Cunningham and mentioned the different words in different countries - you were not just at a loss for words, you were outright "gobsmacked"!! Thank you again for sharing so beautifully!
Nowhere Man brought a tear to my eye (in a good way). Thank you Joe Cunningham x
It was one of my favourite moments of the whole few days! xxx
So nice to watch. And I love those gorgeous Liberty fabrics.
The Black Bird quilts are true masterpieces.
I loved this so much. Thank you very, very much. Made me feel I was there in the thick of it with you. It's the best of being a Quilter...our community is fantastic and you are excellent at what you do.
You just can't beat going to a show and seeing all the inspiring quilts , seeing the beautiful fabric , feeling it and soaking up that atmosphere, I'm glad I can buy on line as I'm house bound , but if I could I would be back at the shows in a heartbeat, that's why I enjoyed watching you going around the show so much , and listening to the interesting people you got to talk to . Fantastic
I was both surprised & delighted to see Joe, the quilter, Cunningham at the show. Long, long, long time admirer--if I ever come into a ton of money, one of the first things I would buy are a couple of his quilts.
What a awesome show to get lost in!
What a feast for the senses, Kate! Joe’s triptych was amazing as were those Liberty fabrics. Nice, too, seeing Anna on camera. Thanks for bringing us along.
thank you so much. the interviews were fabulous. particularly Joe Cunningham who I have followed since he quilted with Gwen Marston on Beaver Island in Michigan where they taught hand quilting many years ago. and of course Alice Caroline with beautiful Liberty fabrics.
That was absolutely amazing, I 'm so inspired 👏. Thanks for putting your wonderful trip on UTube. Judy wheldon
Kate, you keep my feet grounded! Thank you for being you no matter where you are!
Lovely video with such genuine ladies❤❤❤
Thank you Kate and Anna for showing and talking to inspirational people and the quilts they made.
I loved every moment of your visit to the quilt show. ♥
This was like walking through The Museum of Modern Art! Amazingly beautiful, and thoughtful quilts. The quilts for the Ukrainian people are beautiful, but the story brought me to tears. Then the lady who made things for The Lord of the Rings. My daughter recently visited New Zealand, loved it because she loves the books/movies and the beauty. She rode the train up the mountain she was speaking about. Wow, what a small world! She looked into how to relocate to New Zealand, but you have to have a marketable skill. She's an author, published photographer...and I sew lots of things besides quilts, and sell them. 😊❤
Joe Cunningham, Chris English & Kaffe from last week, what an array of wonderful quilters!! I am a fan of all three and you. So glad you shared them with us.
Thank you, thank you, I am a huge fan of Chris English and Joe Cunningham. A few years back I watched a video of Joe quilting with the quilters at Gee Bend, so nice to see him again And always a fan of Liberty fabrics, thank you Kate and Anna
I met Joe Cunningham too 😃 What a lovely man 👍 and what an amazing quilter 🤩 So glad you have shared his quilts story 👍 And lovely to meet ‘The Full English’ 👍👏👏🇬🇧
Seven days ago I discovered your youtubechannel. It was like having a cup of tea with a very nice neighbour. I watched about all the quiltitems this week and got very inspired. You inspire me to use more colours and be more free. So thank you for inviting me on your limegreen sofa to join this homely neighbourhood. Greetings from the Netherlands⚘️
Welcome aboard! xxx
Thankyou so much for taking us around the quilt show. What a wonderful array of talent and great personality displayed . It is so nice of you to mention NZ, I am from the Hutt Valley, a quilter, craftmaker, and knitter, so always enjoy seeing what creations are shown and connecting with the people you meet and interview in your videos.
Astounding priceless pieces ❤
I've so enjoyed all these interviews and amazing quilts! Thank you so much to the both of you for taking the lime green sofa on this adventure!
Thank you Kate and Anna! So lovely to meet Joe and see Chris again. Quilters are just the nicest people! You are so right about color. I’m sure everyone you met from the lime green sofa was thrilled to meet you. I would have been. Take care and enjoy putting your feet up! 🤗🤗
Thanks for showing us a bit around Kate and Anna. ❤❤❤
And love to see you met Joe! I'm follow him also for a while. You should watch the one where you can see Kawandi quilting. You will be inspired by the way of quilting and that lady who tells the story about her descovery of Kawandi quilting. I think you would give that a try too!
Can't wait to see what the next quilt project will be! Big hugs from my simply home in the south of the Netherlands
Watching this for the 2nd time. I like your interview with Chris but your meeting up with one of my Very Favourite Quilt Artists in the World -- Joe Cunningham -- well! That made me smile all over again. Thank you! ❤
I remember when Joe Cunningham spoke for my quilt guild years ago. He is a very engaging and funny speaker.
ABSOLUTELY fabulous! I have to live vicariously through you until I get my new hip (ugh... renovations on the old woman have started....). What I love is the stories - that we would never hear if you hadn't taken the time to share them. Thank you for that! The train ride home is always special, isn't it? I like trains - they're very soothing and when you're on your way home from any sort of festival, it's that lovely relaxing sound of the train that means you can just sit and unplug for a few hours..... Thank you so much!!!! xxx
Nice to see Chris and his quilts again. No room for a longarm for me either. I'm also originally from Flint. We would talk12&14 wire here lol. Good to see Anna enjoying herself as well now that she went down the quilting rabbit hole.
An Act of Peace🕊
Lovely time being with you virtually Kate. I would love to run into you at a quilt show. What an adventure that would be. If you ever come across the pond, I will leave California and share a cup-a tea. Thanks again. Felicia
Part 2: your mention of the differences in our two countries’ customs and words by Mr. Cunningham reminded me of a fellow Brit (now new American)I follow whose vlog is called: Lost in the Pond, with Lawrence who now lives in IL and married an American girl. He’s great fun while explains the difference between Americans and Brit’s. Very fun.
So much fun! I loved Joe the Quilter's quilts! So inspiring. I've joined his channel. Thanks for taking us along.
Thank you, Kate, for your wonderful interviews. And thanks to all of the wonderful people who displayed their talents, and to those who organized this wonderful show.
What a fantastic video!! I absolutely loved it. I live in the US and, at my age, I will never get to attend your quilt festival. So you sharing this has given me a glimpse of something I would otherwise never have seen. Thank you so much for sharing all of it with us. It is such a treasure, and I am looking forward to seeing what the two of you do with your new fabric stash!!
