DIXYPROO it's an amazing game indeed. I'm at 97 per cent completion and the difficulty level is just insane. I've spent two weeks trying to beat the Trial of fools and still have to deal with another three nearly imposible final challenges. The Mantis lords are a total joke compared to that
[ Warning Spoilers!!! ]: Well at the Radiance fight you think, this is surely the hardest fight in the game. But with the Grimm Troupe you then fight the Nightmare King and he is much harder. One of the hardest bosses I ever thought, in any game.
the name Hollow Knight is certainly 100% given to the Pure Vessel (as we see statues of him over and over with this moniker) so yeah it's confusing to refer to the main character as this as well, but its also not wrong (as you and him are essentially the same type of being). Both Hollow Knights and both pure vessels for the same purposes. However there are many clearer names to call the MC such as "Ghost" (affectionately dubbed to you by Hornet) or something differentiating like "Little Knight". Either way- you're all right. The real point is- OBM is is super right, I adore when Ghost whips out his nail all "FIGHT ME" and the Mantis Lords stand up "U WOT M8"(this phrasing slayed me). It's extremely unique to this one fight alone where it gives more of a challenging feel than an outright sudden attack by other bosses. That coupled with this music, to me, easily puts this as my most beloved boss fight in the entire game (next to Grimm who refers to fighting as dancing and bows to you with equal respect towards his sparring partner). The fact that these bosses also don' DIE like the rest, but rather regard you for he rest of he game is just outright amazing. Brilliant. I love it so much.
The scariest part of this fight was that after you defeated the two they all stood up at the same time and I was like "Fuck, please don't tell me I have to fight three" 😂
I beat this boss straight after Soul Master and it felt so refreshing. Everything about Soul Master felt incredibly tedious, from the fight to the run back. But Mantis Lords? I *wanted* to go back and fight the Mantis Lords again, everything about that fight was so well done.
For first it was really hard for me but when i practised it became pretty funny and I enjoyed that fight a lot. So it's also my favourite fight in the whole game.
I love Quirrel's info about the area, saying how they're all seemingly immune to the growing madness and infection of the outside and they live by this tradition, it's truly a different challenge than most of the fights. The music and environment is fitting of these strong and important beings.
Eh, if you ask me Deepnest isn't a difficult area, just super fucking unnerving, with all the spiders on the foreground and shit. I was always on edge any time I had to go through there.

I love how (almost) every boss in the game starts with you triggering it by walking into it. Here the lords won't even attack you if you don't _challenge_ them
My favorite part of the fight: When the two are on the walls, doing their slow disc attack, if you stand in the center and look down, it actually brings your hitbox just low enough to be UNDER the attack.
There is a very tiny window where you can heal without moving when they do the disks that float downward together. I’m glad I use the soul charging shell shield because I sometimes am a little off from where I should be and I get hit.
This is such a well done boss fight, I know I'm tooting this games horn at this point but jesus freaking christ dude. kariem elhanan There's one move though that is kinda bullshit. In the second phase, one mantis can throw the corona and the other one can attack :/ That's a really rare move but it's still stupid.

I died immediately and sat there in shock for about 5 minutes only to do a long treck from Queens station for what felt like the millionth time speechless
there's two benches closer to the Mantis Village, one within the area that the Lords are in (but you have to dash to get to it otherwise a mantis will throw a switch which effectively blocks off the entire area) and another one is in the area just beyond the entrance to the Mantis Village, at the very bottom right corner. At this point you've probably already figured it out, but it's just something you might want to know. It saves a lot of time from Queen's Station and saved me a lot of time when coming back to fight the Lords lmao

I love how they bow at the end like they’ve acknowledged your strength and you’ve earned their respect. This whole fight felt so noble, like fighting the mantis lords is some sort of honorable challenge in their tribe.
I love this because it’s just so... fair. It has An introductory phase where you can kinda learn all the attacks, and all the attacks are clearly telegraphed. The feeling when you see them do the bow and seeing the other mantises do it too is just amazing too.
This boss fight was both easy and honorable. it honestly feels like a true duel of good sports, after that, you are rewarded greatly by having the whole village bow down to you in respect, and they would give you a passage to deepnest, geos, and a charm
The thing i love most about the mantis lords is how when two of them attack you at the same time it forces you to constantly be aware of things other than just the one you are attacking as the second one tends to attack during the first one's period of vulnerability.
-Knowing all the information about the mantis lords prepares you for this fight. -The sudden chills when the knight pulls out his nail and the Mantis Lords stood up and the doors IMMEDIATELY close. -The music timing when they stood up also gives you chills and GOD it's badass! -The middle mantis being the strongest one, but tends to go easy on you as if they're challenging you to prepare what's coming. The slow pace of this phase really gives you time to memorize it's movements. -The movements are swift and fun to look at and dodge. It gives the fun in this fight to make you feel like *you're actually challenging them in-game as the knight itself*. -As the middle mantis is down, they just swiftly return to their seat and without prediction, the two other ones would show up. For me when I was facing this boss, I thought only one of them was gonna come next. Boy was I WRONG. -The SYNCHRONIZED FIGHTING. OH GOODNESS! -By the time the fight ends, there wasn't any geos..there wasn't any charms just yet..just silence...a bow...and the doors open. -Seeing that steam achievement popup that says "Respect"? Really. That is just PURE SATISFACTION. This is how you do a boss fight. Take notes, devs!
Seriously, I just want to do this fight again. It’s so fun to do, and the fact that non of the mantis enemies attack you out of respect is also just amazing! Honestly, I wish there was a button just to bow back to them in some way, or show some kind of respect back.
Why would I need to fight them again though it counted as the win? Also when you mentioned failed champion that made me think, what would dream boss version of mantis lords be like?
One time I died just as the first one died (I had Thorns of Agony and I heard the grunt just as my screen went black), and when I respawned back at the bench, I encountered a glitch where I guess the rumbling on your screen when you stun them was left on... (see 1:40) It fixed itself when I went to another screen, but it was a strange experience ^^;
One of the many things I love about this game is that almost every boss save for one or two ( *cough* *cough* Zote *cough* Markoth *cough* ) are very fair, as they will telegraph each of their attacks before using them. It makes the fights a lot more fun and engaging.
Fighting two of them at the same time is stressfull, it's nerveracking, it's amazing. I've never had a boss fight keep on my toes as much as this one. Absolutely great boss fight.
I like that this fight coincidentally also teaches you the moves for another enemy, the Soul Warrior. Teleports and charges, teleports above you and drops down and teleports to the side and throws projectile.
Something I love about this game is that almost every single fight feels tough but fair. This is a great example because it's fast-paced, nerve-wracking and requires fast reflexes and accuracy in both dodging and attacking, but it is absolutely fair. The attacks are telegraphed with enough time to react if you've learned the pattern, there's no bullshit RNG to avoiding said attacks, and once you've mastered getting attacks in, it's simply learning to survive long enough to win.
One of the most epic boss fights. Music really elevates it to the next level. I love how all the enemies afterwards let you pass in respect. Only took me 20 tries to win.
Keith Redacted the design of the fight would be different too, like you'd have the youngest three to fight like how this fight went, then you'd fight the eldest of the bunch, with attacks different from the others
my favorite thing about this fight is that once you get the mantis lords’ respect all the mantis enemies stop attacking you and instead start bowing when they see you
To anyone having trouble: if you're getting low on health, just wall jump to the top right or left or whatever, let him throw his disc, then drop down and get a heal in. Rinse and repeat for more heals.
A tip for anybody doing this in the second phase when the two of them stand on the walls and throw their lances at you if you stand underneath the middle throne if their lances that they throw meet above you you're safe to heal but if they go past each other than you are not.
The Mantis' are a race of warriors and honor (unlike Traitor Lord) and they both respect your challenge and that you were able to defeat all three of them.
Favorite fight of the game. For those looking to heal during the battle, do it when the Mantis Lord(s) throw their loops. As long as you know where they'll throw and how you'll dodge them, you can even regenerate up to three masks!
I beat it pretty fast. Favorite fight of the game, because it's like a dance. When you learn moves you feel invincible! Worst fight of the game was Watchers Knight for me, because it has no logic especially compared to this fight with mantis lords. Mantis traitor also took a while to beat, but does not feel right. This fight feels incredible, logical and beautifully paced. 10/10!!!
baklanos no boss in hollow knight deserves a 10/10 besides nightmare king grimm wanna know why? because mantis lords suffer from difficulty and it's easy once you learn they're pattern so get that 10/10 out of here they're a 9/10
baklanos also watcher knight is not that bad not the most fair boss ever...but i find them decent enough there are far worse bosses in hollow knight that are actually bad you just think they're the worst because they made you rage and are sometimes unfair :P
People can have different opinions. Just deal with that. I beat Watchers Knight too early in a game thats why it was hard and frustrating for me. Maybe it wont be that annoying on a second run or if you go kill other two sleepers before.
Everything about this fight is amazing, it's not too easy, not too hard, the music is perfect, and like idk I love the atmosphere around this fight. It's not like any other boss where you enter an empty room, the door closes and the boss engages you. Here THEY are the strongest in the village, they have their own pride to defend so they are waiting for the challenger, a.k.a YOU to engage the fight. Not to mention at the end of the fight they all bow in "mark of respect" (which is also the french traduction for the charm you obtain after), it's pretty accurate since all the mantis in the village bow toward you whenever you approach them
When I first got to these guys I thought it was an optional postgame level boss because I was near the end of the game. Now I beat them with the old nail an hour after starting.
The music is so fucking incredibly, it literally makes this boss fight LOADS HARDER. It creates this sense of anxiety in you in such a good way. Hollow knight is one of the greatest indie games of all time, you can't change my mind.
still the best fight in this game. The music, the way that it's perfectly balanced, as they telegraph their attacks a lot, but it still has challenge after dying to them, the quick reactions to which pattern their nails go in, and again, the music.
I saw a mantis these days and the music started playing in my head. Im terrified of arthropods, so it makes sense it would look like a boss battle for me.
it's actually very easy to heal in the 2nd part of the fight. When they do the "double helicopter blade #2" - the one where both blades go to the center slowly, stay there and depart in the end like in 2:07 - you can actually stay still in the middle, heal, and the blades won't touch you.
I died right as i defeated them, respawned on the bench and the entire screen was shaking for about a minute. Came back thinking i'd have fight them again, only for them to bow
Im currently fighting the Mantis Lords (gonna start my fifth attempt tomorrow) and this might be my favorite fight in Hollow Knight so far. Like I legitimately look forward to fighting them every time I lose
When you enter Deepnest through the Mantis Lords' doorway, you'll see a mountain of bug corpses just outside the entrance to Mantis Village. Corpses with the Mantis' spears sticking out of them. It was then I realized how none of the mantises got infected.
Did you pick up mask fragments to increase your health? Try doing this and upgrading your weapon before fighting this boss. It gets easy after you do this
João Galdão lol, I beat them without the sixth mask. It took me more than 5 times. But after the third time, I realize the pattern and trick. Regarding the first Lord, you will see that when she lands on the metallic bar. If she stands a little lower, that’s mean she will throw her nail at the lower part, if she stands higher, she will throw it at the higher part first.
My favourite part of this is that once you beat boss, nobody in Mantis village will attack you out of respect.
if you dream nailing the mantis tell you that you are better than his kings So Amazing
i know it's been a year but, wow I just noticed that after you beat the lords all the mantis now bows down before attacking.
As long as you don't attack them.

Which is a big problem if you like dream shield (like me)

I agree! Practice makes perfect, I guess ^^
I love how the music starts when they stand up.
This wasn't a battle, it was a dance
Favorite fight of the game.
For those looking to heal during the battle, do it when the Mantis Lord(s) throw their loops. As long as you know where they'll throw and how you'll dodge them, you can even regenerate up to three masks!
0:03 "So you have chosen... death"
I was waiting for this to drop on Switch before playing it and holy hell this is one of the best boss fights I've played in a video game period
When I dropped the first one, and the second and third stood up together, I literally shouted at my screen, "FUCK YEAH, LET'S DO THIS!"
I love the violin stinger right when the Lords stand up. Just gives me the chills.
I'm just now seeing that there is a destroyed 4th seat where the traitor lord was.
The best OST of the game
This is a really fun fight once you get the hang of it.
I have my own criteria. Hard does not mean good. Also NKG is from DLC.
baklanos i never said that...and i know he's from dlc so what if he is?
he's still from hollow knight
People can have different opinions. Just deal with that. I beat Watchers Knight too early in a game thats why it was hard and frustrating for me. Maybe it wont be that annoying on a second run or if you go kill other two sleepers before.
0:01 **gracefully takes out nail**
Everything about this fight is amazing, it's not too easy, not too hard, the music is perfect, and like idk I love the atmosphere around this fight.
It's not like any other boss where you enter an empty room, the door closes and the boss engages you. Here THEY are the strongest in the village, they have their own pride to defend so they are waiting for the challenger, a.k.a YOU to engage the fight.
Not to mention at the end of the fight they all bow in "mark of respect" (which is also the french traduction for the charm you obtain after), it's pretty accurate since all the mantis in the village bow toward you whenever you approach them
Man I love this fight. The music sets the perfect vibe for it, I almost didn’t want to beat it so I could keep playing it over and over again.

My dad waking up from 3 years of coma after I switched The TV channel in The patient room
it's fucking amazing to think this game was made by 3 people
Took me many deaths before finally beating phase 1 .... then two of them jumped in .... i laughed, I cried, I died a little inside ....
To make the fight seem less dramatic compared to their height difference The Knight most likely is always staring at their knee caps
Boss battle Mastepiece
1:43 that sync up tho
still the best fight in this game. The music, the way that it's perfectly balanced, as they telegraph their attacks a lot, but it still has challenge after dying to them, the quick reactions to which pattern their nails go in, and again, the music.
perhaps one of the best uses of the "twinned boss' dynamic if you ask me
Mentis Lords:Oh, You're approaching us...?
Knight: *SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY*
This is one of those fights you're best off going all in on offense charms and learning to dodge perfectly
One of my favorite themes and fights. Hornet comes in second :p
I knew it i knew i seen you somewhere
Now take this fight and imagine all three of them attacking at once. That's what sisters of battle is.
Learning the cyclone nail art helps with this fight alot.
I saw a mantis these days and the music started playing in my head. Im terrified of arthropods, so it makes sense it would look like a boss battle for me.
My favourite boss in this game. This boss takes me right back to those epic boss fight we had in 90s retro games
Feels like I’m watching them dance with the music. It’s perfect.
I thought it was impossible to heal during the fight except the time when the first mantis lord just died! You timed everything almost perfectly TT
it's actually very easy to heal in the 2nd part of the fight.
This is one of my favorite fights in the game.. so rhythmic, truly made me fall in love with the game and turned me into the hollow knight.
This game sucks balls
I really love how this fight gives a ballet vibe
Im currently fighting the Mantis Lords (gonna start my fifth attempt tomorrow) and this might be my favorite fight in Hollow Knight so far.
Like I legitimately look forward to fighting them every time I lose
My favorite boss battle ever. So beautiful and elegant and just feels like a fair fight.
The hardest part of the boss is the journey back to the arena after dying to it.
i just want to relive this fight cuz of the amazing music the mantis lords are one of my favorite bosses
the greatest pain is having to do the little route before the fight each time after u die
When you enter Deepnest through the Mantis Lords' doorway, you'll see a mountain of bug corpses just outside the entrance to Mantis Village. Corpses with the Mantis' spears sticking out of them. It was then I realized how none of the mantises got infected.
I like your style!
1:42 So perfectly timed with the music
I only wish it was possible to have a rematch with them (godhome doesn’t count)
I'm pretty sure i didn't breathe for this whole fight
I am so bad in this game, I can't beat the first one of them...
Did you pick up mask fragments to increase your health? Try doing this and upgrading your weapon before fighting this boss. It gets easy after you do this
are you well prepared? what charms are you using?
Git gud!
Git gud yoshi
João Galdão lol, I beat them without the sixth mask. It took me more than 5 times. But after the third time, I realize the pattern and trick. Regarding the first Lord, you will see that when she lands on the metallic bar. If she stands a little lower, that’s mean she will throw her nail at the lower part, if she stands higher, she will throw it at the higher part first.
This game gets better and better.
That moment when you defeat the 1st and you think " ok, time to fight the 2nd, then both the others disapear
*WHEN YOU SAY A CURSE WORD NEXT TO YOUR MOM*
The Mantis Lords: 0:02
Once you beat the game this fight becomes the easiet and most fun fight
