It sounds like a really good sermon, until you start actually listening to his points. He thinks the problem of induction is solved by deciding a particular God is the one that solves the problem and then claiming he has solve the problem? Where is the validation that this god is real? It’s not in prophecy, I will tell you that right now. And if you ask further I will show you.
This is the most clearly articulated presentation of the Gospel I have ever heard preached in an Assemblies of God church, and I was in the denomination for 25 years.
Why do you believe that? He didn't present evidence of a god. So he spoke of foundations to beliefs, but he has no foundation for believing in a god. Meanwhile he changed the topic at a lot to try to attack non-believers' positions, but I think all those arguments were awful. For example he implied they couldn't criticize Orlando if their belief was Moral Relativism (which by the way isn't an automatic position if one's a non-believer), and yet moral relativism doesn't hold that morals don't exist, only that their judgement isn't objective. Morals are principles of right/wrong behavior, so they're behavior preferences. You can compare them with movie preferences: we even use the words "good" and "bad" _exactly_ the same for morals as for movie preferences! But to address another of Durbin's points, he brought up prophecy. Well does he ignore prophecies like that Tyre would be uninhabited or that Egypt wouldn't be inhabited by humans or animals for 40 years? Because those predictions didn't come true. With an actual god why would he even be stuck with _predictions?_ Predictions don't logically indicate a god. With an actual god why would believers be stuck with a book that claims Jesus did human-fakeable "miracles"? An actual god wouldn't rely on that sort of stuff. They could do things far beyond human fakery. Yet with the Bible Jesus is said to have done things like faith-healed (human fakeable) or come back from the dead (human fakeable) or feeding the multitudes (human fakeable). Don't you find that strange? Especially strange when paired with our lack of evidence of any gods!

ChîRhôpher Lazarus It's not just faith... Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. The works are the commandments of God.

Or, people read the OT prophecies and wrote that they had been fulfilled without them actually being fulfilled. Why is this possibility dismissed? How are the Bible's reports of fulfilment corroborated?

We know not to eat each other because our species would've never survived up to this point if we did. We're a tribal & social species. We don't need Devine revelation that eating each other wouldn't be the most efficient thing to do to preserve our species. That is a weak argument.
You're premise is faulty. Rats are cannibals and they're a species that has done very well. Likewise for chickens. People die natural and accidental deaths every day, why not eat them? How about severely handicapped people that can't care for themselves, why not eat them? Please explain your position without name calling, follow logic and don't rely on emotion.
Keize Montoya You ignored my request to use logic. We have had international trade for food and produce for about 75 years. Prior to that food sources were subject ot wars, drought, economic depressions, natural disasters. The history if the world is a struggle for resources, so don't pretend the last generation is representative of world history. Now. Please answer my question, why is it wrong to eat people, without name calling, using logic, and not appealing to emotion. Thank you.
Keize Montoya Why is genocide wrong? It eliminates competitors for resources, which gives other an advantage in producing more offspring. The essence of evolution. You can only say in your opinion it is wrong. So you've made statements about God with no proof. Hardly original. Please support your assertions with some evidence.
Keize Montoya OK. I'm going to address both posts with one. What people have you been listening to that you made a one thousand year mistake about the invention of the printing press? Evolution is about killing. More capable individuals get more resources, survive longer, have more offspring, and pass their genetic advantage on to following generations. They do this at the expense of other individuals. Someone came up with the idea of sharpening a stick to make a better weapon and taught it to others in their village. Then, when their village was running low on food, they used their sharpened sticks to take what the next village had. Then someone came up with the idea of fashioning a string onto a branch to make a bow and launch sharpened sticks through the air. They taught everyone in their village to make and use the new weapon and when the time came it was used to conquer the next village and take their resources. Genocide doesn't mean killing millions of people, it can also mean killing a few dozen if they are a unique culture. But this is the driving force of evolution. Villages with smarter, more innovative people grew and multiplied at the expense of their neighbors. So, evolutionists have to concede their world view can't condemn genocide, only express preference, which is what you did. It is wrong because I don't want someone to do it to me. I can say it is objectively wrong because we are all made in God's image and all lives matter. Finally, if the Bible is so full of genocide accounts it should be easy for you to find one. Please do so.
Keize Montoya You should get your money back from those symposiums. Prey that were more adept at escaping lived because slower members of their species or other species died in the jaws of predators. So the engine of evolution is death. With the engine of evolution being death, why do atheists think killing is wrong. 50 men killed in Orlando. So what, more gay men will be born. Tsunami kills 250,000. So what, more people will be born. In the meantime there is a greater abundance of resources for the survivors. A million chickens are killed every day for Americans to eat. According to naturalists that is the same as a million people being killed. Finally, some evidence. OK. Joshua is the account of one battle, not a genocide. As was common at the time and for another 3,000 years, conquered cities were completely destroyed and the inhabitants either killed or enslaved. Check out the siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD. I'm surprised you included Deuteronomy. What are you pro-slavery? They were a bunch of slaves escaping Egypt. They had to fight for survival, fight for resources, and the fittest survived. This is far from genocide. Likewise he account from Numbers, where the displaced Israelites fought against tribes that were opposing them. Really you need to start in Numbers 22 and read to understand the back ground of number 31. Also these tribes practiced child sacrifice. I know atheists think its perfectly acceptable for a mother to kill her child, but it is an abomination in God's eyes. Everyone brings up Samuel and the Amalekites. Some research into history has to accompany this Scripture. The Amalekites were a tribe of raiders that attacked the Israelites while they were moving to the promised land and continued to raid settlements on the borders of Israel for hundreds of years. Wiping them out was completely justified. So you see, these "genocides" were simply fights for survival and security. As for God killing many, many people that is true. We are all in God's hands and He determines the length of our life.
I wish you would have presented some "absolute proof" that didn't presupposed the proof you purport to have. You can't use the Bible to prove the Bible if you wish to be taken seriously. This was a waste of time. Bummer.
Anyone else find it odd that the position _doesn't_ start with a commitment to _truth_ ? Instead it starts with a presumption. Also does he actually get to evidence at any point? Listened to 15 minutes so far with no evidence. Also...is he proving _Christianity_ (which exists; it's a real religion) or _god_ (which we have no reason to believe exists; we lack any evidence gods exist) ?
Exactly. When you start with a presupposition that the Bible is true, it's easy to finda ways to "say" the Bible is true. Durbin never presents any evidence for his claims. He just uses the claims of the Bible to reiterate hia claims, and the audience eats it up. Very disappointing.
@@imago9059 It's true that our beliefs don't change the truth. But our ability to know truth rests on evidence, and theists don't have evidence of gods. So rational people shouldn't believe in them. Until the evidence changes, non-belief is the rational position.
36:04 Here's how I like "them apples". Isaiah 9:6-7 says the child will lead a governement and bring peace that "will never end". Jesus did neither of those things. Funny how you left that bit out. Failed prophecy. The Bible is mythology. You don't strike me as very honest, Jeff.
Jeff likes to use "atheist" and "unbeliever" interchangeably when the former is a subset of the latter. I'd love to hear him apply his apologetics to the worldview of someone other than an atheist. Or at least to be intellectually honest and stop acting like his apologetics speak to all unbelievers worldviews.
I have never quite understood the term non-believer. I believe in many things and I don't believe in many other things. But just because I don't believe in gods I am considered a non-believer or an atheist. 🤷🏻♂️
@@vejeke Your "non-believer or an atheist" choice doesn't make sense. (It's like asking "am I considered a human or an atheist?") * Atheism means, _"disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods."_ * So it includes both disbelief ("gods do not exist") and lack of belief (non-belief). So you don't have to choose one or the other. You're both a non-believer and an atheist (and a human). Non-belief is basically just admitting we don't know. For example consider a claim that we're 100% sure you don't know: * I'm thinking of a claim that's either true or false. * Do you: (A) believe it's true, (B) believe it's false, or (C) have no belief about my claim? * This isn't a trick question. I haven't told you what the claim is. I've done that so that we're both sure you don't know the right answer, at which point clearly you can't know it's true or false (and so believing those things wouldn't be rational). * That leaves non-belief. You don't think it's true, you don't think it's false, you just don't have a position yet because you're absolutely certain you don't know the right answer (and when we're rational, we don't pretend to know things we don't know; we admit non-belief).
Anyone who says they are "better" than the shooter are just like the Pharisees. We are not to condemn. The shooter made a poor decision and he will be judged accordingly by our Creator. Not my job to determine where he will be. We are to be the light and love.
I am a believer, but I do struggle with always wanting to know "is it really true". This has changed my view on that, which I am thankful. However I came up with one question...you said the events of Jesus were written hundreds of years before Jesus, which sounds amazing, BUT, wouldn't the writers of the New Testament just say "hey this is in the Old Testament so let's write that story now so it actually seems real".
Joseph Ventura Great question, and its ok to ask these questions, in case a non-believers asks you that very question. This is similar to the conspiracy theory. Dr. William Lane Craig and Dr. Gary Habermas answer this better, but basically we know from extra biblical sources that the early Christians indeed faced heavy persecution for their faith from Jewish and Roman authorities. No historian disagrees that Jesus existed and was crucified for claiming to be Messiah, and that the disciples claimed that Jesus was raised from the dead. Continuing to push this belief ruined their lives, and they endured torture, and eventually were martyred for not renouncing the claim. When people conspire, they do it not to worsen their lives, but to better their lives or gain power. Secondly, there were several others before Jesus, who claimed to be messiah, and gathered even larger followings, but when they died, so did their movement. Jesus's movement grew after his death, even despite the persecution. The conspiracy theory is just so much less likely than the truth that Jesus did rise from the dead and appear physically to all the disciples on multiple occasions just as the disciples claimed.
Joseph Ventura I would encourage you to rid yourself of distractions and set your entire focus on Jesus and pursue Him with all that you have as well as repent of all sin and ask for encounters with His presence and Holy Spirit. Once you have an encounter with God you will never doubt or question again. Your faith won't be simply off of belief but of experience and eye-witness testimony. I've seen and experienced so much of Him and am starting to see visions and hear His voice. He's so awesome and wants to show up in your life brother.
Joseph Ventura I understand what you mean. It's perfectly normal to ask questions, God's revelation is always progressive, the bible itself was written over 1500 years, that being said we don't get everything all at once, atleast in the physical, your questions under God's sovereignty ultimately are avenues toward perfection, so keep asking, keep searching, and rejoice when you receive the knowledge you seek. James 1:5 says If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. So ask him for wisdom in those areas. To answer your question, to make a long story short, no. Remember the point of the new testament, the 4 gospels are 4 different accounts of the life and teaching and ultimately death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Acts is a continuation of one of those accounts about those who had physical encounters/ relationship with Christ. The epistles are addresses to the early churches, and revelation is apocalyptic literature describing the last days. Could they have written something different? Well technically yes, but the style of literature is narrative, narrating what was currently happening (the gospels and acts) and correction and reproof of the churches (pauls epistles) it wasn't about "hey this is what happened in the old testament" but as a necessary addition to the scriptures ofcourse we would see the parrellels from the old testament. The old testament is Jesus Christ concealed, the new testament is Jesus Christ revealed, so naturally it will line up. I encourage you to do historical research as well on the times certain scriptures were written, early church history, etc...if you haven't yet, I see this comment was 6 months ago. I pray God continues to open your understanding and that he reveals all things to you, I Jesus name. God bless you brother.

Why would you post something like that? "No True Christian" is such a transparently bad argument. For example I'm a non-believer. Atheist means, _"a person who has received Christian baptism or is a believer in Christianity."_ Well _some_ atheists say "god(s) don't exist" and that's an irrational claim (it's as irrational as the claim _"god(s) DO exist"_ ) but do I go around lying and saying they aren't atheists? No, usually how I handle that is by not calling myself an atheist at all but using the term non-believer which more precisely defines the position I hold (which sure seems to be the most rational position, given our lack of evidence gods do or don't exist!). I wish education did a better job teaching people logic and rationality. I feel like religion would just disappear in a puff of logic if we were better as a culture at teaching people how to form beliefs close to the truth.
Molinism isn't perfect, but it the best explanation I've heard so far for how to explain the Biblical truths of God's absolute Sovereignty, and man's libertarian free will (i.e: our absolute responsibility for sin). I just wish there were more teachings and debates on it, so I could iron it all out more, and test it more thoroughly against the Word.

In mathematics, we do it all the time. In order to "prove" anything at all you have to presuppose or rest upon axioms which cannot be proven, And use the laws of logic again which are based on axioms to "prove" new statements. In fact, with Euclidean geometry, switching up the axiom for the parallel postulate gave us non-Euclidean geometry. With the axioms you prove new statements and see if the axioms are good by how useful the mathematical objects that come out of those proofs are in terms of there use. Same thing with set theory, look up axiom of choice, and how using it or not leases to different mathematical worlds so to speak. In fact, add unproven statements to your system and you can prove all sorts of things as long as the axioms are consistent. This is how I can view the Bible, using it as my axioms for living ,how well does it line up with us as humans and our conditions and a explaining our condition. This was hard for me for a while as "rational " scientist , but realizing that whatever you consider to be true is really really relative to what the axioms on which we base our thinking on. Take care my friend.
@@christianpecora9859 How then would you rate the Bible's utility as an axiom in which to base human behavior? It seems to me a book which condones chattel slavery, rape, and genocide is-at the very least-harmful to the well-being of humans. Even worse, a document declaring all humans to be born axiomatically destined for either eternal conscious torment or involuntary worship of a dictator is the essence of what you might call "evil".

_Daithi,_ Maybe. I'm a bit older, and there's a genuine gratefulness (thought quite mild/muted) towards everyone who enabled me to live to this point (so my parents and the 1000+ people who ever cooked meals for me, and the millions of other people who did various other things that helped me keep living, including those in history who provided things like scientific advances that I benefit from). So it's only odd if (A) he's only grateful to be able to grieve - that'd be weird or (B) he's grateful towards an imaginary friend rather than all those real people who he actually has evidence of.

Sorry, but the Trinity doctrine is Catholic and it is not Biblical. The oneness doctrine is Jewish (Orthodox) and it is not Biblical. God is complex and has more than 3 forms. Yeshua is part of YHVH, yet He is fully God. John 14:6 is simple. Anything contrary is a lie.
Would love to ask this Bible Thumper why is it that a child molester can abuse children their whole lives and then at the end of their miserable lives just say they have repented and by Christianity standards they get a free pass past the pearly gates ? But a wonderful human whom has only helped people and shown love and compassion, but is not Christian gets to spend eternity burning in hell, any bible thumper have an answer to that ?
Because all fall short of the glory of God. There is not one person that is good. Not one. God’s standard is much higher than man’s standard. If we don’t have the blood of Christ, we have no righteousness in us. It is Christ alone that covers our sin and justifies our sin. Which is the standard we should live as well. Because Christ forgave us much, so also we should forgive others who sin against us. Blessings to you!
Wow, working with extreme examples is not good for logic. Who is a wonderful non Christian and how would you know if they truly are that wonderful? Proof? If you believe truly that people are wonderful you are deluding yourself and catering to your ego.
Vladmir Putin these are the evidences! The authors of the Bible wrote these prophesies few hundred years before it actually happened. It's not just general things but to the exact point of what will happen. Mathematically, these things will happened with a probability nearly approaching zero. But they happened! And this comes to another point, the texts can be verified through thousands and thousands of transcripts and the Dead Sea scrolls where historians can date them a few hundred years before Christ was on the Earth. I encourage you to look up on this topic yourself as I did and it definitely strengthened my faith.
Vladmir Putin wow. I wonder why the author did not address the prophesies that came to pass. It's really common to cherry pick a few verses here and there and come up with our own religion. Yes, there are prophesies that have not come true, I did not say that all prophesies came true. But know this, there are over 40 authors of the Bible. They hardly knew each other, but they all tell one unified story. So who cares if the Nike river never dried up? The main message was maintained throughout the Bible. It's really hard to sum them all up into one comment but I do encourage you to read the Bible yourself or even learn about the main storyline of the Bible.

True Christians follow the commandments of God
ahhh, you are on here! You have thoroughly demonstrated that you have NO idea what Christianity is!
you have no idea what Holy Scripture teaches.
ChîRhôpher Lazarus What I do know is that Christianity doesn't follow Christ. You call yourselves Christians, your suppose to be Christ like. How? By keeping the Commandments as he did.
YOU have been Thoroughly refuted and how you cherry pick and twist Scripture. You still haven't told me how you are (We rather) Forgiven, because you continuously claim that YOU keep the precepts of the Torah Exactly like CHRIST. Sir, you do Not Know CHRIST. i, by the Grace of GOD, Gave you Romans 1-3 and you still claim absolute perfection. You abide under the Wrath of GOD. REPENT.
ChîRhôpher Lazarus It's not just faith...
James 2
14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
The works are the commandments of God.

32:43 Matthew 24:32, Mark 13:30, and Luke 21:32 all contain a prophecy in Jesus' own words that he would return before those present passed away. That did not happen.
Failed prophecy. The Bible is mythology.
Or, people read the OT prophecies and wrote that they had been fulfilled without them actually being fulfilled.
Why is this possibility dismissed? How are the Bible's reports of fulfilment corroborated?

BUT, the fact that the got away with it and never received jail or justice, will god curse them and cause them to live a bad life?
No. Jesus already took the punishment upon himself so any curse or consequences we could have brought upon ourselves are eliminated. Jesus became the curse on the cross so we can be blessed. Gods justice is different than mans, although mans justice system reflects Gods at times

Thank you.
Keize Montoya
Why is genocide wrong?
Thanks, Ima use this :)
Amazing!
I wish you would have presented some "absolute proof" that didn't presupposed the proof you purport to have. You can't use the Bible to prove the Bible if you wish to be taken seriously. This was a waste of time. Bummer.
Jeff please do one speak about the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Thank God that His existence does not rest on us believing or not. Phew.
@@imago9059 It's true that our beliefs don't change the truth. But our ability to know truth rests on evidence, and theists don't have evidence of gods. So rational people shouldn't believe in them. Until the evidence changes, non-belief is the rational position.

Hey Jeff! I love and appreciate your ministry. What AG church is this? I am ordained through the Assembly of God.
(It's like asking "am I considered a human or an atheist?")
* Atheism means, _"disbelief or lack of belief in the existence of God or gods."_
* So it includes both disbelief ("gods do not exist") and lack of belief (non-belief).
So you don't have to choose one or the other. You're both a non-believer and an atheist (and a human).
Non-belief is basically just admitting we don't know. For example consider a claim that we're 100% sure you don't know:
* I'm thinking of a claim that's either true or false.
There are only two positions believe it or not. With God or against God. And there will come a time when all will have to choose.
👏
Ok.. wow! Mind explosion at the end there.. 😲

The first mistake is assuming you know what other people think and saying you understand what people have been through. The Ancient Greeks were not Christian yet they created art like pottery Christian’s didn’t invent that.
This is not a debate of "who did it better". If you think it is you have missed its point.
@@imago9059 my point is that everything wasn’t made by Christians including America if they did the first amendment wouldn’t exist cause they wouldn’t allow it, they weren’t atheist they where agnostic. Life is complicated therefore god is not evidence.
I thought this guy was a calvinist??? Not Christian, let's be honest
37:03 Borrowing from the molinist worldview
Molinism isn't perfect, but it the best explanation I've heard so far for how to explain the Biblical truths of God's absolute Sovereignty, and man's libertarian free will (i.e: our absolute responsibility for sin).
I just wish there were more teachings and debates on it, so I could iron it all out more, and test it more thoroughly against the Word.

"Absolute proof" means presupposing your conclusion in order to prove your conclusion. Seems legit.

"grateful to be able to grieve with you?"
Odd thing to be grateful for.
Haven't watched the video yet, but I've got a guess: Is it because we know it already in our hearts or some nonsense?

Sorry, but the Trinity doctrine is Catholic and it is not Biblical. The oneness doctrine is Jewish (Orthodox) and it is not Biblical. God is complex and has more than 3 forms. Yeshua is part of YHVH, yet He is fully God. John 14:6 is simple. Anything contrary is a lie.
Whatever heretical book you took that from, please burn it or it'll make you loose your soul. Sounds like some New (Old) Age doctrine.

Your "evidence" debunked: rationalwiki.org/wiki/Biblical_prophecies
