Hi John, Many thanks for shouting us out, looking forward to speaking movies & physical media with you as always, cool 88 films releases there, "Shock waves" is a movie that the cover always use to grab me a bit like "Dead & buried" & "Death Ship" but actually never got around to watching unlike the two i"ve mentioned, i"ve always liked that version of "King Kong" i might consider upgrading but have the U.S Scream factory-Shoot release. "12 Monkeys" is a weird one & didn"t like on first time viewing & a recent revisit i got it more & maybe a third watch would cement my opinion of it but i gotta say Brad Pitt & Bruce Willis are excellent in the movie. Great buys here John 👍👍👍, speak soon to you Sir 😎
No problems at all Carlos 😁😁👍👍 again I had a blast chatting with you all and i get what you mean about those covers!! They are some of my all time favourites 👌👌👌 King Kong 76 looks amazing I must say and I'm guessing I'll feel the same way about 12 monkeys as it probably needs a few watches to get properly into it! Cheers again Carlos 😁😁👍👍
I loved Shock Waves, great release the best I've seen it look. I've always had fun watching that movie over the years, some pretty creepy moments. Great reviews as always.
Good way to look at it John 🤔😁😁 it's a fun creepy film, given its a bit on the tame side but it more than makes up for it in other ways bud 🤩🤩 cheers for watching John 😁😁👍👍
Excellent purchases John 😀🍿🎸🎶 I not heard of that ‘Jubilee’ film before; sounds well up my street 🤩 ‘Taxi Hunter’ was awesome; I’m sure you’ll enjoy it 🚕👍 Love ‘The Fisher King’ by Terry Gilliam; I picked up the 4K Criterion of ‘Time Bandits’ when I visited the Barnes & Noble store in NYC back in Jan 😊 Still need to watch the 1933 ‘King Kong’ on Blu-Ray 😀👍 ‘Mission Impossible’ was one of my fav films of last year; I can imagine the 4K being utterly brilliant mate 👌 Hope you having a good week John and have a good weekend; looking forward to the stream on Monday; can’t wait to get the 4K of ‘Once Upon A Time In The West’ 😀👌
Thanks Sam 🤩🤩👍👍 I think you would get a kick out of Jubilee 👍👍 it's a bit avant garde but is a great time capsule of late 70s punk, with some memorable performances by the stars of the day 🤩👍 Mission Impossible looks incredible 👌👌 1933 King Kong was one of my faves as a kid!! Great movie! I'm looking forward to the stream as well Sam, cheers mate, yeah 4k of Once upon a time in the west should be amazing mate 🤞🤞🤩🤩👍👍
I still remember crying my eyes out at the climax of the '76 KK when my mam took me to see it at the much-missed Royalty Cinema in Gossy and I recall many of the audience members in the rows ahead turning around to look at me as the curtains closed over the end credits! I snapped up Shout! Factory's Stateside double-disc HD release of the above remake some time ago and also acquired SC's U.K. BR recently, too.👍
Nice haul there John.. yeah always got to pick and choose with CEX and know your prices.. they update every Thursday so obviously prices from a Weds to a Thursday can fluctuate.. had some good deals from there to be fair although it does annoy me they sticker up the slip covers 🙈🙄
I've found recently that their pricing fluctuates lots with crazy highs and lows!! They get on me Wick if I'm honest Marcus 🤬🤬 so I kind of miss them out these days sadly 😔😔😵💫😵💫😁😁
Hi again John Just had to add my tuppence in with regards to your comments on CEX. I couldn't agree with you more regarding their pricing, I don't know who's responsible for setting the prices but I've noticed that over the last couple of years that any title that is horror related or on a Boutique label is automatically 'up-priced' ( if that's a word). They seem to be taking advantage of genuine collectors. Many of the high priced films are available brand new and cheaper online from the big retailers. Also if you buy online from CEX they suddenly increased postage by £1, and if you order more than one film they charge you postage for each separate one. They are no longer my go to shop as I don't like being taken advantage of. Even Dick Turpin wore a mask....... So glad you eventually got and enjoyed Thundercrack. Told you it was an eye opener didn't I ? Off topic now but do you have any idea why it's not possible to buy a separate Blu Ray of True Lies without having to purchase the 4K (Which I can't play) I think it's Cameron being greedy and there will be a Blu Ray release further down the line after he's milked his cash cow a little bit more. Cynical....Moi...? Anyhoo keep up the good work and keep safe and well Regards John
Hi John 😁😁👍👍 yeah I agree with all your points mate 🤔🤩👏 it's quite unusual for a price on a second hand item to go up and down every week, by sometimes a large amount 🤯🤯 no rhyme or reason!! Also I'd a movie goes out of print and understandably goes up in price, they never take into consideration if the package is Wrecked 😱😱 still the same price John 😳😳 that's a tough one John, although there is a Spanish blu Ray (in a red case) that's on blu ray and meant to look good, don't know if it's 100% legit 🤔 maybe you could wait for the 4k to go in the sale and buy it that way for the blu ray 🤔 saying that its got to come out on a separate blu Ray sometime John 🤔🤞🤞🤩🤩👍👍 thanks for the positive vibes as well mate 😁😁👌👌
Thanks mate 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah I did think the picture quality was lower than I expected 😵💫 although on all the previous versions I've seen it's never looked that good 🤔🤔 I thought with the length of time since I saw it, it would have been a better restoration 🤔🤩👍👍
Those are some cool pickups there John, nice. Haven't heard too many people talk about Shock Waves, has that overlooked atmosphere going for it. I had heard of it because Peter Cushing is in it and I enjoy seeing Peter Cushing on screen. Some of his work starting around 1973 is a little hard to watch because of how rapidly he aged after his wife tragically passed away, and you can sense the pain within. I've been getting into the contemporary Hong Kong films myself and am very close to completing my Cynthia Rothrock Hong Kong Collection. You wouldn't believe the horror stories I've heard about CEX from other UK RUclipsrs, not only with the stickers and prices, but sometimes the shape the items are in when they're in stock. If I ever do muster up the courage to fly in a plane again and visit the UK, CEX is one physical media shop I won't give my patronage to. The original 1933 version of King Kong will always be the go-to watch for me, such a classic. The 1976 version was a pale imitation from what I remember seeing of it, not one of Dino De Laurentiis's finest hours. He had originally asked Mario Bava to direct, but Bava's health issues prevented him from accepting. The Peter Jackson version came pretty close in faithfulness but was a little too long. The one big plus for both remakes for me is the bond the leading lady forms with Kong, and the pain and sadness she expresses as the planes gun him down. Already have notification set for that Livestream on Monday, it's gonna be a blast seeing 4 of my favorite RUclipsrs on the same screen together. Take care my friend, hope you and the Debs are well, and speak to you soon.
Hey Nash great comments mate 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah CEX is a joke and it's getting worse! Hardly go in there now, if you do get to the UK, go in just to see how awful it is!! But don't buy any of their rubbish (unless it's a good bargain 🤞🤞🤣🤣) didn't know that about Mario Bava mate!! 🤯🤩 that would have been a REALLY interesting take on King Kong 🤔😁😁👌👌 I loved doing that livestream Nash, can't wait till the next one mate 🤩🤩 thanks again for watching mate 😁😁👍👍👍
Good selection mate. Will be watching live on Monday I'm subbed to Dan. 12 Monkeys is really good does take a viewing or 2 to get your head around did me back then.
Cheers Andy 🤩🤩👍👍 I'm excited for Monday 😁😁👍👍 great guys to be on a stream with 🤩🤩👍👍 I feel like I'm ready to go back to 12 Monkeys now as back in the day I liked it but felt confused, a bit like Fifth Element, I didn't "get" it till a recent rewatch 🤔😁😁👍👍 speak Monday mate 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John, I agree with you on the Mission Impossible films. I loved all of them until this latest one. I started watching it on sky movies, but I switched it off half way through 😮 it just wasn't holding my attention. I think in between the action bits there was too much talking going on, more than any of the previous films. Be interested if anyone else thought this 🤔
Thanks Marty 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah it's a gamble because I might feel the same way after watching it as I did back in the day, but fresh older eyes and that! 😁😁 Great edition to get though Mark 🤩🤩👍👍
Wow Mack!! I remember that release!! Great looking cover! No wonder everyone rented it 🤩🤩😊😊 the quality could be better but the packaging is amazing 😁😁👏👏
I've had my eye on shock waves but I think I'll gamble and won't for a 2 for £15 myself 😁 I quite enjoyed the Sonic movies too. 12 monkeys is one of many on my rewatch pile that I need to get to 😄👍🏻
It's a great pick up in the 2 for £15 Ash 😁😁👍👍 the 2 Sonic movies are real fun we watched them back to back! Definitely see the 3rd one at the Cinema 😁😁 haha I daren't keep a record of my too watch films!! Ill probably have a breakdown 🤯🤯🤣🤣👌👌
I've seen films downrated to a 15 from 18 but to a 12 must be rare. I've not seen it tbh but what on earth would have made it an 18 in the first place? I guess maybe the cover? I'll have to check the film out for myself.
Shockwaves has never been rated '18' by the BBFC, it was rated 'A' for cinema release in 1978 and as a '15' uncut for the Vipco VHS tape in 1993 when the '12' rating for home video did not exist and rightfully downgraded to a '12' now which is closer to the original 'A' rating. The reason the Vipco tape and DVD's were '18' was because of '18' rated trailers for Zombie Flesh Eaters, Cannibal Holocaust and Shogun Assassin which meant the releases had to have an overall '18' rating even though Shockwaves itself was rated lower.
Great info Paul, Yeah i remember being really confused about Vipcos DVDs and thinking that movie isn't an 18???? But as you say other content on the disc was where the "18" was 🤔😁👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I know Vipco get a lot of crap online and everyone seems to hate them but they had an amazing catalogue of films, British horror, Italian horror, Video Nasties, modern SOV junk, classic slashers and horror. And Now the Screaming Starts!, Asylum, Vault of Horror, Horror Hospital, Tower of Evil, Inseminoid, The Incredible Melting Man, Spookies, The Deadly Spawn, Shockwaves, Massacre Mansion, Psychic Killer, Grave of the Vampire, Without Warning, The House Where Death Lives, The Burning, Night of the Demon, Zombie Flesh-Eaters, City of the Living Dead, The Beyond, Zombie Creeping Flesh, Torso, The Case of the Bloody Iris, Bloody Moon, The Bogey Man, Death Trap, The Slayer, Shogun Assassin, A Blade in the Dark, Human Experiments, The Slime, The Mutilator and Dark Sanity amongst others. In a way Vipco were the forerunners of 88 Films and Arrow Video that set the blueprint for a boutique label, they released mainly horror, cult and genre films, emphasised the gore and sleaze and had some terrific eye-catching covers. Obviously VHS was a lousy format and the quality of their releases were generally poor and they were hamstrung by the ridiculously censorious BBFC under the rule of James Ferman which, to be fair to Vipco, wasn't their fault. The biggest issue I have with their DVD output at the time was none of their releases were anamorphic enhanced so if you had/have a widescreen TV there would be solid black borders around all four edges of the screen and the film would play in a little window in the centre of the screen, completely unwatchable now. To play Devil's Advocate a little bit I blame the BBFC more for the cuts rather than Vipco, I mean it was the BBFC who actually demanded the cuts and I am sure Vipco would have loved to release all their films uncut if they could have. Every UK distributor was/still is at the mercy of the BBFC, nothing any of them could/can do. Now, which boutique label is going to release The Nostril Picker on 4k?
@paulandrews7275 Nostril Picker 4k 🤔🤔🤯🤣🤣 can you imagine that!!! I agree that Vipco did push the boat out and release some amazing titles, I just wish they had the extra cash or business accumin to take their label to the next level, as much as they get criticised I bet every Horror collector owned at least one Vipco title Paul 🤔🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Maybe time has dulled the memory but I can't ever remember exposing you to SW, John.🤔 Nice to see SamJo outside Newcastle's HMV, too. I'm confident TH should be a solid watch with psycho par-excellence Anthony Wong in the lead role but I must admit I found HBII:TLB to be a typically terrible Wong Jing effort. You might recognise Alan Tam from The Armour Of God in the latter above action atrocity and co-star Eric Tsang was the original director of TAOG before being replaced by Jackie Chan. If I recall rightly, Andy Lau's character can be pretty irritating at times in HBII:TLB and always seems to be hampering the Police in the film. I believe I initially endured HBII:TLB when it was released on VHS back in the '90s on the Eastern Heroes label and I think they were responsible for the inclusion of the dubious reference to John Woo's bullet-riddled masterblaster in the title. Make no mistake, there's only one HB.😉👍
I'm sure you brought Shock Waves around John 🤔 I remember we talked about it a bit 👍👍 I agree that I'm not expecting Hard Boiled 2 to be anywhere the level of the Chow yung fat entry🤔🤩🤩👍👍
Yea John your right about there prices about cex I bought universal monsters set when I got it it was damaged and had the wrong discs in it gave me a refund so bought the usa one for the same price new and sealed
I'm hearing in the comments the slip might be sold out on Shock Waves!! 🤯🤯 might have to act quick 👍👍 wonder if HMV have the slip? 🤞🤞👍👍 looking forward to rewatching Taxi hunter after many years Craig 🤩🤩👍👍
Alright John just popped in to my local cex I bought henry portrait of a serial killer 4k Ltd edition arrow in good condition for 18 quid and hmv got wicker man 4k
@@MondoChelloveckMovies - I have done over 10,000km since the start of Covid, most of it in the first 2 and a bit years. Did a minimum of 10km a day for something like 2.5 years without missing a single day. Multiple half marathons. I have cut right back since due to unrelated health conditions. Only had one injury in all of that time when I tripped over a raised kerb at 4am and smashed my face, hand and knee up. Took 6 months for the facial scares to disappear.
Hi John, another great video. Going back to the video nasties. I was having a conversation with a mate and we agreed that if you take out the animal killings in Cannibal Holocaust we thought the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan was more gory and disturbing. Mainly because it was based on reality and what those soldiers must have been thinking as they got of the boats facing an almost certain death. Just wondered on your take of it? Cheers Andrew
Cheers Andrew 🤩🤩👍👍 actually that's a really good point mate 🤔👏 Saving Private Ryan has probably one of the most realistic openings in any movie!! Its a great movie but I've only watched it once for that reason, its really brutal and shocking!! I agree with your points completely Andrew 🤩🤩👍👍
@wordyword.298 good question! I think with a big director behind it, it might have got through but they way they were banning stuff I wouldn't be surprised if they did Andrew 🤯🤯🤣👍👍
I know!! I bet John Carpenter was really annoyed with that as the film had tanked at the Cinema and could have cleaned up on the VHS rental 😵💫😵💫 (although I think it did well considering the ban) 😊😊👍👍
Mission impossible dead reckoning part 2 was supposed to be out this year but it was pushed back because of the strikes in Hollywood. So it was pushed to next summer. Apparently they've dropped the part 2 from the title so more go and see it I suppose. But I can't see they would do that. So we'll wait and see
I see Colin 😁👍 thanks for the info, be strange for someone going to complete the set in years to come and think.....where's Dead Reckoning part 2???? Haha they have to mention it somewhere, I think they shouldn't have made this one part 1, just the name should suffice 🤔🤩🤩👍👍
@MondoChelloveckMovies agreed didnt reqlly need to namenit part 1. And must say you're looking well John. Also I have a disc I'd like to send to you. Do you have a P.O box to send to.
@tintinbyherge yeah pretty much a corner you don't need to paint yourself into as there was enough of an "ending" to suffice that movie as its own 🤔😁 every movie follows along anyway 🤔🤩🤩 thanks Colin I feel pretty good mate thanks 👍👍 that's incredible of you mate 😁😁👍👍 do you have Instagram or Facebook as that's where I'm usually contactable for information 👍👍 I'd not use my email on the page Colin 😊😊 once again thank you for getting I touch about that 🤩🤩🙏🙏😁😁
I was probably 8 as well Richard 🤔😁 it was an EVENT to see that film...if I remember rightly it might have got panned by the critics at the time but hey at that age who listened to the critics 😵💫🤬🤣 still don't actually 🤔😁 It could have been yesterday for me as well Richard! Got really vivd memories of it 🤩🤩👍👍
Second to Star Wars and the earlier, Land That Time Forgot, this was the most excited I had been going to see a film at the cinema and it didn't disappoint John. Everything worked for me, the Rick Baker ape suit, John Barry's excellent score, the performances, the action and the great ending. I evening the rubber snake! My only gripe was that Kong didn't get to fight actual dinosaurs.😮
@voodoo2444 totally agree Richard 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah Rick Baker's suit never gets mentioned but it was really good and wow!! Star Wars!! That was a MASSIVE deal and the film literally blew any expectations out if the water!!!! 😱😱🤩🤩👌👌👌
Really? It's a shame when there is a better version of a movie online and the physical is behind in quality mate 😵💫😵💫 shame that this is the case mate 🥴🥴👍👍
I was recently searching through my impressive collection of Asian Turtle Excrement when I remembered that you asked me once if blokes could do 'Only Fans' because you were thinking about doing some weird shit with a clown mask and a horse tail glued to a rubber bung. I must apologise for the delay in getting back to you as I recall you were keen to start getting your 'Gear' sorted. Anyhooooo ....... I have no clue and frankly I'm a little upset that you thought to ask me. Especially when your Social worker is there for just this kind of confusion. On a lighter note could I possibly order one of those T shirts please? Do you have them in F.H. ? Hurry up with your reply son .... My time is precious 😜
Hey G-man 👋 I know that only-fans page (that you set up for me) is a bit lacking in content 🤯 but I know with your very generous large amount of cash you put it to the project and the barage of 41,000 emails I need to finally put some content out for you. I know you have longed for one of my t-shirts but I think your request of having me in it also will have to be one for the higher level of subscription to my only-fans page! But keep on trucking and I hope you have modified your workbench into that "special" bench you have so feverishly craved 😊😊👌👌 I hope this message finds you well and not incarcerated as you normally are! Boomshanka G-Man 😄😄🤩🤩
Some very nice titles there. I am a fan of Shockwaves myself, I do really like it but I always think it would have been even better if it had two or three gory kills in it. Taxi Hunter is great, I enjoyed it and I am not the biggest fan of Asian cinema. Ha, I go into my local CeX all the time to see if they have any cheap 4k's, I have bought quite a few pretty much brand new looking 4k's with original slipcovers between £3 and £5, that is my limit, anything for a fiver or less I will take a chance on whether I have seen it or not. But yeah, some of the prices in there are outrageous, £25 for a slipless second-hand 4k of Prey? Good luck on trying to sell that! I would have bought Sonic 4k for £6 too, why they put those huge stickers on limited slipcovers is beyond me. I would like that King Kong 4k but I don't like the film quite as much as you do and I don't really want to pay more than £10 for it. The only discs I am going to buy this month are The Beast in the Cellar, Count Dracula 4k and Butcher, Baker Nightmare Maker 4k.
Thanks Paul 😁😁👍👍 yeah I agree, with the cover of Shock Waves being as it was you do expect more stuff in it there's something about the movie I just enjoy! Can't put my finger on it! Just like Death Ship, not the scariest are gory film but I totally LOVE it 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍 yeah I see the £3 4ks and if they have a slip I'll give them a whirl but you expect that £3 4k not to be £15 after a month or 2??? 🤯🤯🤯 prices are ludicrous and I'll see that £35 blu ray (in the window in the sun!!!!!😱😱😱) there for months! Unreal Paul 🥴🥴 got a lot of memories of 76 King Kong, still got a big poster I had on my wall of it somewhere 🤔😁 yeah I'm interested in those films as well Paul 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I was 16/17 then and just starting out on my heavy metal adventure so probably found her a bit weird, but would say morning, hello, the niceties.

Shock Waves was filmed on 16mm so it's not gonna be crystal clear. According to wikapedia they blew the negative up to 35mm for release.
Yeah Gavvo 16mm can be a problem when it's blown up and you only how the blow up for your scan 😵💫 shame as its a great little movie 🤔🤩👍

@@MondoChelloveckMovies 😄👍🏻
@popcornandhorror 😁😁👍👍
@@paulandrews7275 ah I see. I just saw all the covers had 18 on them.
Grabbed a copy of Shock Waves....but unfortunately, the version with the new slipcover is sold out...
Oh wow!! 😱😱 did you get a slipcover with yours Brad? To be honest the slipcover is one of the best I've seen in ages 🤩🤩👍👍
Maybe time has dulled the memory but I can't ever remember exposing you to SW, John.🤔
Nice to see SamJo outside Newcastle's HMV, too.
Yeah Edward!! Absolute joke mate 🤬🤬 they literally don't care at all Edward 🤯🤯🤬🤬

Taxi Hunter is awesome but then I do love Tony Wong.
Need to get Shockwaves, didn't realise Peter Cushing was in it.
Cheers JP.

@@MondoChelloveckMovies - Already too warm for me. Did a 5km and couldn’t wait to get back indoors in the shade.
@cheekster777 I'm I nearly fainted reading this 🥵🥵🤣🤣 👏👏
@@MondoChelloveckMovies - I have done over 10,000km since the start of Covid, most of it in the first 2 and a bit years.
@cheekster777 wow that's pretty bad Cheekster!! 🤯🤯 be safe out there!! But you must be pretty fit though in general 💪💪😊😊
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Thanks. Yea, imagine if that was made back in the 80s, I wonder if it would have been classified or banned. 👍👍😎😎
@wordyword.298 good question! I think with a big director behind it, it might have got through but they way they were banning stuff I wouldn't be surprised if they did Andrew 🤯🤯🤣👍👍
Yea like with John Carpenter's The Thing, albeit on section 3. Cheers 👍
@tintinbyherge yeah pretty much a corner you don't need to paint yourself into as there was enough of an "ending" to suffice that movie as its own 🤔😁 every movie follows along anyway 🤔🤩🤩 thanks Colin I feel pretty good mate thanks 👍👍 that's incredible of you mate 😁😁👍👍 do you have Instagram or Facebook as that's where I'm usually contactable for information 👍👍 I'd not use my email on the page Colin 😊😊 once again thank you for getting I touch about that 🤩🤩🙏🙏😁😁
Saw King Kong in the cinema twice as well John. I was only 8 but it feels like only yesterday.❤❤
Oh and Jaws but I was too young to see Jaws at the flix😢
@voodoo2444 was lucky enough to see Jaws twice on release Richard! 😊😊🤩🤩 although it scared the life out of me 🤯🤯🤣🤣
@voodoo2444 totally agree Richard 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah Rick Baker's suit never gets mentioned but it was really good and wow!! Star Wars!! That was a MASSIVE deal and the film literally blew any expectations out if the water!!!! 😱😱🤩🤩👌👌👌
I had the blue underground blu ray of Shockwave and returned it. Awful quality… much better on utube and tubi.

Why do you call a film a fillum? Is that a Scottish dialect?
Not sure Christian 🤔 I always have and people mention it from time to time that I will say fil-um so I thought get it on a t shirt, I'm quite a way from Scotland Christian 😁😁 I'm in Newcastle (Geordie land) 😊😊👌👌
