Why do they do such a bad job on Denon products? Why still not the function to switch between Serato and Standalone like Mojaxx mentioned? I dont get it ... If they sell the SC4 for 999 MSRP and the SC2 for 799 MSRP - they would have a great market ... in my opinion
Guys, this is $1299 retail now and it can be found on discount for $1100 because you can get 15% discount at a major retailer! I just purchased it. Not only that also received a $100 store credit. It's just a matter of looking around at the top major online music gear retailers.
You are right CT! The price is the issue. I will add that the build is also an issue. As great as both the Prime 4 and Prime 2 is Denon belly flop this one. On top of that, they discontinued the Prime 2. For this? As excited as I was about the leak, after seeing it I will not buy it. I rather keep my DDJ 800 and save for the DDJ 1000. This is not a good look for Denon.
It would never be an upgrade, these two are different lines from the same brand. You cannot find any Prime 2 because it is discontinued and the Prime 4is difficult to get I'm almost any market around the world and the ones available are way over 2000€. So comparing these with Prime products is just stretching to find some points. Still these are great value for what they offer, the Pioneer are way more expensive. For me I am disappointed because I wanted a Prime 2 or a replacement and that is still to come
Nice balanced review. You were nicer to them than I would have been. To me these miss the mark so hard it hurts, especially as a fan of the Engine OS. The Live 4 is priced to close to the Prime 4 and looks to be a huge step down, and the Live 2 is double the price of Mixstream Pro and doesn't really look like much of an upgrade.
You nailed it! Like always! I own the Denon Prime 2, and I got lucky and bought it on Reveb for $800.00. However If I had to pay $1400.00 and then turn around and buy this product at close to the same price.... It would NOT happened! Thanks for a great review!
I'm hype for the SC Live 4. I was stuck with the Mixstream Pro for the last year because the Prime Go wasn't worth the upgrade, the Prime 2 was discontinued, and the Prime 4 cost too much. Denon's trailer says the SC Live 4 is compatible with a pair of LC6000s so i am GOOD!! Shout out to Denon!!
Great review man, most of the critics out there sound like Salesman...you nailed it! I also think this is a bit pricey, compared to Prime 4...this should be a little above 1000 and they could keep the speakers!
I myself like this controller because it reminds me of a XdJ-Xz but smaller. It’s about the same weight as a ddj-1000. I had surgery on my neck and caused me to be weak in one of my arms. I currently have a Ddj-SZ and it’s massive and heavy. The Prime 4 is around the same weight as the SZ. So having a smaller and less weight 4 channel controller is best for me.
The prime 4 for me is the ultimate mobile DJ controller This is for the occasional gig or at home live steamer Dj I love your point on price…but the reason I have yet to get a prime 4 Is there is a whole bunch of things on it I will never use ( stopped doing weddings 4 years ago as it was killing me musically ) Because I play bar gigs every other week And do a radio show every week this maybe the denon controller for me Disappointed there is no internal drive bay though
I’d take the Prime Go over these models for that ultimate portability. These models will find a niche but they are an interesting side step from Denon DJ.
Thanks for the video. I'm waiting on my Prime Go to arrive after purchasing it in September. After seeing this, I'm glad I made a good decision. On other channels, people are describing the new Denon SC Live as a beginner's controller. For the price, I don't think so. Here in Australia the 2 sells for AU$2300. For two hundred more, you get the Rane One. The Reloop Mixon 8 Pro costs $1500 AUD. It has great features and it claims to use both djay and Serato simultaneously. See if you can review it please. Cheers
The Prime 4 seems like a dinosaur being over 4 years old. Are they going to ever update the hardware? I thought SC 4 was going to be my next controller but seems like I'm sacrificing alot over Prime 4
I think this controller would've done better if it were released under Numark's brand. Numark is known for making equipment that either is entry level with pro features (Mixstream Pro and Mixtrack Platinum), or fits just in the gap between midrange and pro (NV and NS6ii). This controller is right under the Prime 4 in terms of functionality, so this exact layout with the Numark brand and 200-300 less on the price might've caused more of a stir and positive results. Instead, we're all left confused about where it fits in the Denon line and if it's worth putting the money up.
Definitely right about the price point... the deal breaker for me would be spending all that money and not having any DVS compatibility or ability to add to cdjs.... you mentioned the jogs are like the new numarks and I really don't like those funny thing is I prefer the rev 1 jog over the more expensive numarks... I'll be fair and give a big plus for Denon if the effects is just a switch knob with labels... I tried the Prime 4 and I thought the effects section was horrendous really cumbersome to switch through something on a digital display, the Prime 4 is something that I would just leave one effect on just kind of set it and forget it... the big deal breaker to me though is definitely a four channel mixer that just doesn't really seem to feel like a true 4 channel mixer, the hardware is lacking
I'm with you CT. The Prime 4 is $300 more, but consider the price difference over the life of the unit. If you get 3 years out of it, $300 is about $8.30 per month more for the Prime 4 which is a much better unit. Of course some people are more price-sensitive than others and some might be struggling just to afford the SC 4.

I think the had a higher price in mind because when they will discontinued the prime 4 for a better version, denon will have a chance to create a bigger gap with the higher cost of building a new controller
Hey bro, I’m at 5.45 where you show that when you move the crossfader over from the left to right, there’s a good few mms of travel, before you hear the sound of the song. This is a massive red flag for me. Do you know if the Prime 4 plus is any better? Because that was the other standalone I was looking at. Was going to go with sc live 4 for now but if the crossfader transition, is better on prime 4 then I’ll probably go with that.
As a beginner I'm thinking of selling my ddj-flx4 and buying this. Bought it to use with my tablet and I'm disappointed how the rekordbox app functions and that it's a subscription base service. This has what I'm looking for as a newbie, if i stick with it later on I'll upgrade to something else.
Neither of these products make any sense. If entry level is the target audience, the Mixstream pro already exists for this segment with nearly the same features and a way better price point than the SC2, and the Prime4 is a way better option for almost the same money as the SC4. I don't get it. I'm a Denon DJ guy and use their products almost exclusively, but I don't get these devices.
We all know, and you CT mentioned this in a past product review that supply chain challenges have increased prices. However, this price point is too high, so I agree.that they should lower the price point. Now, a question. If the brand name was Pioneer would we be saying the same thing knowing some of their price points are ridiculously high. Although I would given Pioneer their props on the DDJ 1000, that was reasonably priced, IMO.
@@ClevelandTerry yeah but the effects unit now is integrate like Pioneer mixers and not on top of the two Decks whit modulation ( like traktor). I think its more confident to Pioneer use and a good choice to switch by a standalone two channel Pioneer consolle whit similar Price
There’s a couple more issues with where this sits in the market. The cost of components today versus if this was released tome to two years ago (if that were even possible), and it’s feature set for the cost. This is not a strong product offering. I feel it’s a step backward based upon its price point for Denon DJ. It does also compete with the used products on the market. I feel this will be a tough sell at $1,500.00. I’m really curious to see how it is received upon release for sale. While not every piece of DJ gear fits my use cases, I have people ask me for recommendations. I enjoy learning about all DJ and sound gear. This will be difficult for me to recommend based upon what I have learned about it.
@7:20 - files are HQ - ok what does that mean exactly? What are the specs of those files.. no way to 'grab' them? I could with Audio HIJack I guess if I was a fan of streaming services or Amazon. Sorry not sorry but Amazon is one cook I don't want in the DJ kitchen.. unless it's some gear at rock bottom price.
Everybody hating on it, but the modified layout alone adapting to closer cdj mixer setup is a selling feature. Remember how ddj 400 sold so much just for this reason.
Awesome review CT. This appears to be an overpriced cheaper version of the Prime 4. I don't see this doing well at all unless there is a significant price drop.
As the saying goes, "Caught between a Prime rock and a Stream hard place": priced too close to the Prime 4/2 to make financial sense yet to reduce them 1k/sub 1k would kill the Mixstream!!!
It's a nice unit if I had to use one..but the Jogs are still too small for my taste. I don't need full 12" but.. a bit bigger. I guess that's what the flagship model has?? Pretty nice screen and good it's all integrated. I wonder if you have to restart it like my windows machine every once in a while. That fader is going to piss a lot of people off. No cut in / curve adjust???? I would never consider using Amazon at all for any service. Just me...and my Vinyl collection - I try to rip 10 cuts a week from my collection for new gigs and mixes. It's a modest effort to get those things digitized.
The one thing I don't see reviews talking about that's really bizarre is why they're not USB ports on the front / top of the unit... Like have they never like this would be great for House parties but what we're supposed to like sneak behind the decks every single time a new DJ comes up to play the hell?
hi! i come from an old Stanton sc-s4dj stand alone being that i am a guitarist doing dj sets only to get some extra gain. now i'm thinking to upgrade to a denon stand alone... i was wonderng wich one between prime go and prime 2 and ... they discontinued prime 2 and come out with this sc serie. the prime prices are grown in these years ... the sc are with promotional prices. so they sell for 700 euro a mixstream 1000 a sc2 1300 a prime go and also 1.300 euros a sc4 i'd prefer a prime because of ethernet port (to link it with my akai force) and aux in options. sc 2 has no aux in ! so i was thinking of a prime 2 even if discontinued. could it be a bad bet or do you think (for stand alone use) could be still a good choice ?
What are the specs on the speaker monitors? Would they operate effectively in a live environment? What would be equivalent studio monitors on the market?
Im really loving my new sc live 2 but I've noticed that when im using it sometimes i get an audio glitch, like a small stutter on the playing track, why is that? Is there a fix? The usb that i use is ssd, and i dont get that problem when im playing the same usb on my mixstream pro
I like your reviews except the part about pricing is unfair. For example, do you charge the SAME for a bar mitzvah that you dud last year or the year before? Everything is 10-20% more expensive. Trader Joes has the same food but its more than it was last year. Its sad that these items aren't priced accordingly, but they are actually priced accordingly for 2022-23.
I understand what your saying but I can only compare pricing with similar hardware and unfortunately they have a better device a couple of 100$ more. My guess is the prime 4mk2 will increase to around $2100-2200 and this will all be moot, but for now, the pricing doesn’t make sense.
@@ClevelandTerry ok thats fair, but i've watched many many dj vloggers talk about raising their rates, some single ops selling weddings starting at 1900 when they were 1200 last year! But as price on hardware goes, like they say, buyer beware. I was never on the DDJ1000 bandwagon so these two new Denons don't float my boat. But the price is a little high on non- moving platters and puny wheels so I'd never consider them. Plus I dont think they have a 2TB storage bay either. Its what people like, but wait till Pioneer comes out with something new, nobody on earth will ever dispute them about their MAP
Alright guy I'm still learning but I already have my impulse 500 which I broke it by accident but now I want something like standalone dj control which one should I get I'm not afraid to try and I would love to try something different I don't wanna use A laptop anymore Please somebody help
The street price will be lower than $1599. A 7” screen is only OK for a single deck. Four decks on a single 7” screen is just as ridiculous as DJ-ing on a 7” laptop. That’s barely bigger than a phone screen. It screams “budget model”. Funny that Pioneer has an all-in-one with a much better screen … cuz an all-in-one is the only time I’d actually rather use Denon than Pioneer.
@@ClevelandTerry it’s not infeasible that the prime 4 may soon be approaching a refresh! that being said it occurred that if you compare the SC2 against its closet competition the pioneer rr the denon wins hands down and at 249 more it’s still light years better and I suspect pioneers replacement will be close to the 1299 if they ever make one! But you are right the pricing definitely feels off for what is obviously a home use piece of DJ equipment!

I can't really see where this product fits, even at the new lower price... horrible mic implementation, loose 1 for aux use, no inputs for the 4ch "mixer" ... just don't see how this would really be usable for most people.... as for home/bedroom DJs starting out, I still see it as a total FAIL, the features just don't seem any good to me from ANY perspective, not at well over 1000$ ... for new DJs just starting, I feel there are better options for less....and for this price range I feel there's a lot of much better options... I love Denon, but they need to have a clear divide between entry level gear, and pro-sumer gear, as well as a divide between engine/prime gear, and hopefully some really well implemented Serato gear.... love my MC7000, and the prime stuff is all legit... but seems like they've kinda missed the mark lately, this release missed the broad side of the barn in my opinion...
i just got the denon sc live 4 for 990.00 orginal was 1299.00, traded in my numark ...wanted something that i didnt need my computer all the time or my speakers...work great..keep updating the software Denon, now add apple music...it will be a win win
Prime 4 way to go for a few hundred more with zone outputs, ability to add turntables , LC6000's, and so much more.. I think it's a great board just overpriced

So with the new Pricing released of the SC 4 Live at $1299 and SC Live 2 at $1099 would you recommend it? It's tempting for sure.
I think this unit is like Prime 4 but a little bit easier to use
It’s the same software so it shouldn’t be more or less difficult.
Do you think Getting SC Live 4 over my Prime 2 is a good idea? I do love my internal HD bay, but I can live without it.
Nice video! My favorite part is at 9:44. #photobomb 😂
I'm a mostly wedding DJ so no mic EQ knocks this unit out for me while using Serato. Same reason I didn't buy the Prime Go
Now $1299!
Yo Sweetwater is showing a price drop to $1299. Looks like they are hearing everybody out on the high price 🤔
Everybody hating on it, but the modified layout alone adapting to closer cdj mixer setup is a selling feature. Remember how ddj 400 sold so much just for this reason.
Who’s hating on it?
Awesome review CT. This appears to be an overpriced cheaper version of the Prime 4. I don't see this doing well at all unless there is a significant price drop.
As the saying goes, "Caught between a Prime rock and a Stream hard place": priced too close to the Prime 4/2 to make financial sense yet to reduce them 1k/sub 1k would kill the Mixstream!!!
They are capitalizing on the Twitch and Tiktok DJ's of the world. That's it.. That's the ONLY market this makes sense for.
Cut in set to “sharp”
The one thing I don't see reviews talking about that's really bizarre is why they're not USB ports on the front / top of the unit... Like have they never like this would be great for House parties but what we're supposed to like sneak behind the decks every single time a new DJ comes up to play the hell?
This is pretty much a personal use product.
Is it possible to connect 2 vinyl turntables to either of these controllers?
Hey terry thanks for this. Any idea if we can run mono out audio on this?
Yes, it should be in the mixer settings or a hard switch. Engine hardware all have that option.
Thanks for video, it's not really got it for me, I will wait a little longer to see the mixon8 pro, And the price is steep.
hi!
i come from an old Stanton sc-s4dj stand alone being that i am a guitarist doing dj sets only to get some extra gain.
now i'm thinking to upgrade to a denon stand alone... i was wonderng wich one between prime go and prime 2 and ... they discontinued prime 2 and come out with this sc serie.
the prime prices are grown in these years ... the sc are with promotional prices. so they sell for
700 euro a mixstream
1000 a sc2
1300 a prime go
and also
1.300 euros a sc4
i'd prefer a prime because of ethernet port (to link it with my akai force) and aux in options.
sc 2 has no aux in !
so i was thinking of a prime 2 even if discontinued. could it be a bad bet or do you think (for stand alone use) could be still a good choice ?
Trying to decide between the sc 2 and prime go
What are the specs on the speaker monitors? Would they operate effectively in a live environment? What would be equivalent studio monitors on the market?
It’s in the video. Can’t be used as outside monitors.

Hey Terry , I have the Denon go!! Is it worth upgrading to the sc live 4 .
Completely different systems. If you do, use the go as your back up system.
Im really loving my new sc live 2 but I've noticed that when im using it sometimes i get an audio glitch, like a small stutter on the playing track, why is that? Is there a fix? The usb that i use is ssd, and i dont get that problem when im playing the same usb on my mixstream pro
Retailers just dropped the price to $1300 on the Live 4. Looks like Dennon watched your video.
I love ddj 1000srt is best and ddj rev1 and then ddj flx6
Has this controller got 33/45 rpm speed adjust?
Is there no post fader setting in using VDJ with the PrimeGo?
Prime go does not have wash effects.
Maybe denon plans to raise the price of the prime 4 toward the XZ which is almost closing in 3k bucks
If they did that it would probably be on a Prime 4 mk2, not the old one.
Wtf an amateur piece of kit for a premium price??? Denon dj just dropped the ball
They’re literally trying to make professional DJ’s equipment so expensive and yet they’re making subpar updates.
Getting the SC Live 4 over the Prime 2. The Prime 2 doesn't have sweep fx, isn't compatible with Serato, only 2 channels, less portable, and it's discontinued so it's only available used (does it still get updates
That's why I said if you are a VDJ user or considering moving.
@@ClevelandTerry i agree with that. I've been a VDJ guy but now that we know STEMS is right around the corner for Serato, i wanna switch over. Thanks for commenting and as always great review.
Can you still stream Amazon music in serato?
You could never stream Amazon in serato.
***Price has been reduced!!***
For me it's a downgrade from the MCX8000 or Prime 4. USB and SD cards on the back? really! Limited connections. Sorry for my opinion.
rather wait for p4 replacement tbf
Well said.
Please what Yamaha Speakers do you use
Hs8 studio monitors.
Its like a Pioneer standalone unit.. simple and easy to use. I think is more versatile in a club ( sc 4)
How's the pitch fader increments?
Solid. No issues at all.
Thanks
Im not sure what denon is trying to do with these products. It doesn’t make sense!!!!
i just got the denon sc live 4 for 990.00 orginal was 1299.00, traded in my numark ...wanted something that i didnt need my computer all the time or my speakers...work great..keep updating the software Denon, now add apple music...it will be a win win
Is your sc live 4 still working good? Do you have any crossfader bleed?
Where you push Crossfader over and shouldn’t hear music but sometimes you do?
Prime 4 way to go for a few hundred more with zone outputs, ability to add turntables , LC6000's, and so much more.. I think it's a great board just overpriced
metal should be used for that price
I've been saying all along, speakers built in a professional device is a waste. This is a downgrade for Prime owners. If you are a PRIME owner this is not for you.
Got sc2 for $760
I was going to buy this now I'm not
Neither 👎🏽
Pioneer and rane have it right now..
Nope p4 all day nite long 😮
