I have found new artists by looking at the record label artists I like belong to. For example I like Lorn's music, and I looked at what labels he was signed to. The music from him I liked the most was released under Ninja Tune (Lorn switched labels since then) and through that I found Bonobo, Forest Swords and Amon Tobin. They all make trip-hop/downtempo ethereal ambient style music. Labels tend to have similar artists stylistically speaking so it is a good idea to look up the artist's label, even their past labels and especially if it's a more obscure/independent label. This only applies to if an artist has signed with a label at all and won't always work with independent artists or artists that made their own label.
This not only helps me finding new artists, but also finding new methods and places to take in mind when posting or wanting my music to reach greater audiences
I love hip-hop. Kanye is my favorite artist. I saw a video of his samples and heard Blood On The Leaves, I just played a radio from it in Spotify and I discovered jazz, which is now one of my favorite genres, so that might also be a good idea
That last part is so spot on. I remember this friend of mine from high school, back then I know very little about indie stuff. I used to ask him about new recommendations. It's a shame now we're both don't talk anymore, he's too busy to talk or meet me again.
Just remember at the end of the day he's just a guy with an opinion and a personal taste. Yes, he's very knowledgable and passionate, but music is very subjective. Several times he has given a below 5 rating to an album, I check it out, and found meaning and value in it that Fantano didn't get. Good examples being XXXTentacion and $uicideboys. Also pretty important to remember that the guy reviews full albums. Not all artists are great at making consistent and cohesive albums. It's great when they do, but that doesn't mean you can't find some amazing music amongst all the generic stuff, so even if you see a low rating but you're intrigued, listen to the whole thing. In fact, listen to the whole thing before you hear anyone else's opinion on it if you have to.
2 of my favorite ways to find new music are Deep Cuts, and Spotify. Deep cuts is an amazing yt channel that covers all sorts of genres and I usually go to him when I want to get into a new genre, for example his top 5 records to get you into jazz, really helped me get into that genre of music since I had no clue where to start. And I'm so thankful for the Spotify autoplay feature, every time an album ends it just plays me something similar from another artist. I've discovered countless bands this way like Deftones, Daughters, ISIS, Dean Blunt, Slint, The Smashing Pumpkins, and currently my personal favorite Skeletons and Sidewalks. So many genres and sounds I never knew could exist and could bring new emotions from me. And of course the best way is to just watch as many videos talking about music, bands, artists etc.
my favorite discovery of music is when i like a certain band and then i try to find more bands with the same sound and then i just fall deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of music discovery. i have soooo much pending songs/albums i have to listen to and they never stop coming.

I would also add musicans recommendations. I would sometimes read an interwiev about some artist that i love and read about some music that they like, so i would get an idea from their influences and also some great recommendations.
Subreddits like r/HipHopHeads keep me up to date with everything in the genre, from the underground stuff, the classics, to the new releases, with tons of relevant discussions and opportunities to ask for recommendations within a given genre or style.
RUclips is the plug for me. Whenever I see a recommendation, I always check it out 90% of the time. All you need is that one artist from a certain genre to listen to it & recommendations from YT of similar artists will start flooding in.
There's also the spotify "fans also like" feature. Find your favorite band on spotify, and go to the fans also like page, and browse the artists there. I found my favorite artist, Alex Vargas, through this method.
Going into music stores and taking notice to what seems to pop off the shelf at you is also fun, bonus points if the employees know what they're talking about or have a level of passion for music
Spotify’s similar artists is a good way to do it as well. I will frequently find myself going down a rabbit hole and wind up in some pretty obscure places with artists I’ve never heard of and in an entirely different genre of music

At the beginning of 2017 I started buying a new album at the beginning of the month on ITunes and I would familiarise myself with that artist throughout the month so I was always trying something new. Then midway through last year I got myself a Spotify premium membership and started picking a new artist every month and going through most of, it not all of their discography. I’ve found songs and records that I love by such a wide range of artists. I’ll give some examples: my favourite musicians/bands range from Car seat Headrest and King Gizzard, to Low and We Lost the Sea, to artists like Disasterpeace who compose game soundtracks and I’ve discovered all of them just out of my own curiosity. If you have Spotify premium I really recommend having an artist/s of the month every month, and you’ll never be bored with the music you listen to. edit: holy long comment, Batman! I appreciate it if you read through to the end, I didn’t realise I had that much to say on the topic :p
