This song hit number one on the charts in 1977. It was during this period that Stevie Wonder was sweeping just about every Grammy Award for which he was nominated, year after year after year after year. Finally, after he'd won seemingly every Grammy Award there was to win for like four or five years in a row, he finally didn't release an album one year, and whoever it was that won the award got up at the podium to accept their award for Best Album and said, "I want to thank Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album this year." It was hilarious. He was about as hot as an artist can get in the music business for about five years in the '70s.

It was summer, she, my 7 year old sister and I were picking plums off the tree near the back fence while her white German shepherd dog ran around us. Those were great days. After all, these are the artists and musicians that influenced the performers of early rock and today. And there are sooo many more. Every decade has it's hitmakers and influencers. Take note, look them up, enlighten yourselves and you'll enjoy the music much much more. Too often I hear from you both "I don't know" and it's NOT coming from your outro. I appreciate your reactions and think it's great that you're checking out old music, but you're just scratching the surface. There's so much more to know, understand and experience. Good luck and may God bless.

    "For there's Basie, Miller, Satchmo
And the king of all, Sir Duke
And with a voice like Ella's ringing out
There's no way the band could lose "

Especially when it's so easy to find out!
It reminds me of asking a younger worker at a store, where something is located, and they shrug their shoulders and say "I don't know" as they don't miss a step as they walk by me.
It doesn't even occur to them to go find out or ask someone else to show them.

The fact that they guess a song's meaning (which is usually wrong) and then ask for comments doesn't make sense to me.

More Stevie please! He has countless amazing songs and one of the most influential artists of all time especially for current music. A lot of his albums have him playing all the instruments. Bird of Beauty is my favorite song at the moment. Lex never stop being you 😂❤️

One of his truly great songs. But does it make you want to delve into the musics of the 20s, 30s and 40s? Some of my personal faves include Ellington/Strayhorn, Teddy Wilson/Billie Holiday, the Gershwins, Albert Ammons, Benny Goodman et al. Tons of great music that preceded the 50s and informed them.

I remember listening to him when he was 13 year old Little Stevie Wonder. There are talented people and then there are geniuses. This song is a tribute from one genius (Stevie Wonder) to another genius (Duke Ellington.) Songs In the Key of Life was an exceptional album.
