One of my favourites has always been Henry. Not just because of his large, unique thoroughbred shape and appearance, but just how identifiable he really is as a character. He's just beside Gordon and probably above Edward and James imo.
in my version of the steam team every member have their own proper personality like this thomas:mature has little cheeky personality edward:wise and caring henry: not a coward and more mature gordon:still boast but has some sense and still having the alliance with thomas james: still showoff but more friendly to others percy: cheeky and matured toby: same with edward emily: caring mother/sister figure to the engines
Though I've come to realise what a stupid idea the Steam Team is, I do love every single one of the original members. Thomas is easily my favourite, even if he got messed up a lot in seasons 8-16, but I can't help loving him anyway.
Thomas was actually surprisingly mature in this, despite his flaws. Easily a most underrated character I'd say. Even more underrated than Edward when it comes to his character. He's only ever come so far since S1 to the Brenner Era.
@@TheLazyFusspot_3428Thomas is easily one of my favourite characters I think the memory of him is soured by how shoehorned he is into Season 5 and up but when he is used for a role that suits him it really suits him
My favorite character is Thomas. I love how he matured throughout the first five seasons. I also love that he never loses that slightly cheeky side to him. He goes from being selfish and rude to kind and selfless.
I actually dont mind concept of the steamteam, but I understand why fans dont like , it takes attention away from other characters , i think the reason way Thomas became the most popular character is because Kids related to him the most , and the steam team was essentially like the sensational six or the power rangers , but thats just my theory
The original books were never always about Thomas. It's actually an ensemble series where each book puts a different character into the spotlight. That's what I love about the original books. They did the most with Gordon, who has by far the most relatable arc in the entire series, with Henry following.
Emily's HiT era personality could've worked. Maybe make it a side of her that she's not proud of; how she's prone to anger and unintentionally takes it out on those around her, but feels really bad afterwards.
Honestly, I think bossy Emily could’ve worked if handled differently. To quote her song “you don’t need to ask her twice when you want some sound advice” “ sometimes she can’t help herself and gets misunderstood. Things can sometimes turn out wrong but all she meant was good.” Whenever Emily is giving advice/ordering other Engines around it, don’t have it, that she takes pleasure in being in charge, but instead have it come from me position of trying to help. For example, maybe she believes Trucks and Coaches should be shunted in a particular way, and doesn’t understand that others may have their own way of doing things. She would be in the wrong, but you can get where she’s coming from. Emily only wanted to help. While at the same time in other situations, perhaps her advice is the right thing to do and the other engine is just too stubborn to listen to reason. And to that same extent, like duck, I think Family should have the opinion that thing should be done “properly” which would undoubtably get on the nerves of engines, like Thomas, who want to do things their own way. Creating somewhat of a friendly Rivalry where they rarely agree on how things should be handled, but they do care about each other. To me that dynamic between Emily and the other engines would be far more interesting than her just being a generic, friendly character. Plus, considering how old she is, seriously she’s older than Toby and Gordon, it would make sense that she would hold up views like this. “Stuck in her ways” one could say. Not necessarily in the wrong, but she could have a bad habit of not trying to see why others might do things differently.
James is only at Number [SPOILERS]? Disgusting! 🤣 Henry would definitely be in my top 5. When I was a kid, I was often in poor health, so he's probably the most relatable. He also probably has the most interesting backstory, with him being a dodgy locomotive built from stolen blueprints, not to mention him almost being killed off, but in terms of overall personality and maybe just a tiny bit of Angelis bias, James has always been my favourite.
My top 5 favorites are: #1. Thomas (Nostalgia aside, he's playful and fun, but he's also determined to be really useful, to work hard, to wise up, grow, do his best, help others in need, be a hero, and learn from his mistakes. He's a character that younger viewers can identify with). 2. Henry (I love his character development, how sympathetic he is, how he grows, and how no matter the odds he gets stronger every time an obstacle gets in his way). 3. Edward (He's just a simple wise old father figure with a good heart). 4. Gordon (I love how egotistical he is and how sometimes his own pride leaves him punished for his actions in halarious results (like getting stuck on a hill or falling into a ditch). But, he still shows that he has a good heart giving him redeaming qualities and still maintaining his likability). 5. Percy (He's cheeky and playful making him a perfect match as Thomas's best friend. But, him being pushed around but determinted to bite back gives him an edge).
Honestly, Emily being bossy isn't a bad idea. They just overdid it. Like what if she was bossy but the things she bossed the others about were supposed to be helpful and not rude?
I think the intention was in fact to make her bossiness come off as Emily trying to be helpful, but accidentally coming off as rude. It literally says in the Emily song, “Things can sometimes turn out wrong when all she meant was good”

And that's why in 2014 we got tobias and the half pariah and coming this year the sequel movie tobias and the arcane merchant. If toby wasn't gonna be used properly in the main series then fans such as tines decided to do it themselves.
My three favorite steam team members are definitely Edward, Henry and Toby as each of them have been a big part of my childhood Henry especially as he was my first introduction to Thomas and Friends when I was three years old and it was my great grandmother’s 100 birthday and he has had a very special place in my heart. Thanks for sharing this great video 👍❤️
in my opinion Emily can work as a kind but sometimes bossy character if done right because that can make more room for interactions and more stories with her.
I can kinda see why they removed Edward from the Steam Team in season 21. I feel like he’s the least suitable candidate for a main character, especially when you look at his worst episodes.
My List: 1. (Henry): I've always connected with his drive to prove himself and the fact that despite his hurdles, he's managed to remain a useful engine and has even been shown to be gentle and eager to make things right. Sure, he has an arrogant attitude at times and has been on occasions, a little too high above his own station. But he easily became a favourite of mine after "Coal" and "The Flying Kipper" and "Henry's Forest" is a classic. 2: (Percy): I've always found his original theme and how it progresses overtime quite symbolic. I always enjoyed his accidents the most since he always got into the worst situations, like crashing through a chocolate factory, or being plunged into the sea. Aside from this, I always liked how hardworking and affirmative he was following "Duck Takes Charge" and his relationships with Duck and Toby are easy standouts to me. I didn't like how watered down he was in the Hit Era. 3. (Gordon): Compared to his Railway Series counterpart, Gordon never had an actual conclusion in the television series. But that doesn't mean I don't love him as a character. I hated him as a kid at first, but seeing how he changed after "Off The Rails" and from "Down The Mine" onwards, I liked him a lot. He has a lot of amazing crashes too, there's Respect For Gordon, Gordon Takes a Tumble, A Better View For Gordon, Thomas and the Rumours and Off The Rails. (Of course, his first onscreen accident that wasn't a system malfunction). 4. (Edward): Whilst he's a flat character compared to the others. It makes sense for his character since he's a wise sage who is undervalued at first due to being an old engine, which can cause him to struggle when pulling coaches and trucks at times. Despite this, he's a mentor to the smaller engines and although he does have smaller accidents here and there, he's always been careful and considerate about his work. I loved how he was portrayed as a sassy old man in the Brenner Era when he leaves Gordon on the Hill after the latter tells him that he doesn't need Edward anymore. His relationship with Gordon is easily a highlight of the classic series. 5. (James): Even now, I wouldn't say that James was particularly my favourite at all as a kid. I always felt happy whenever karma struck him, especially in "Dirty Objects" and "Old Iron" where he was acting like a complete tosser at the start. Despite this, I did feel sorry for him in "Thomas and the Breakdown Train" and I always liked how "Troublesome Trucks" was the first episode that shone a bright light onto his shortcomings in "James and The Coaches" and "James and The Express". I didn't like how nasally his voice became overtime though, but I loved the Irish accent he was given in "The Adventure Begins" as it suited him better, imo. 6. (Thomas): I used to consider him my favourite as a child. But overtime, he's lost the top spot. I still love him as a character and I always will. His development during the first seven seasons were handled well and like Percy and Gordon, his crashes were always the funnest to watch, such as "Trust Thomas", "Bye George", "Fish", "Down The Mine", "Thomas Comes to Breakfast", "Thomas and the Special Letter" and "Thomas Gets Bumped". Like Gordon and James, it was always satisfying to see his arrogance be punished in some way. All the same, I didn't feel a connection to him in later seasons on reflection. 7. (Toby): Whilst I consider him one the best characters in the franchise, due to his railway's history being explored in the books, I honestly find Toby kind of dull in certain episodes like "Special Attraction" and "Thomas, Percy and the Coal" since he's there for dressing rather than serving a purpose. "Mavis" was a good episode though and I liked that it showed his argumentative side. He has always been a no-nonsense, I'll watch you screw-up and laugh in your face kind of mentor. Overall, I thought his episodes were enjoyable and I feel like a lot of what made him go was stolen away in later seasons after Hit flanderised everyone into braindead idiots in the majority of their appearances. Railway Series Toby will always be the best incarnation though. 8. (Emily): She's the blandest, dullest and most shakiest written character in the entire Steam Team. Whilst I loved her kinder moments in "What's The Matter With Henry?" and "Salty's Stormy Tale", I always thought she could've been portrayed more like a mother than as a snarky cow in later seasons, especially when Hit turned her into an unlikeable bitch. Brenner-Era Emily is the best rendition, imo. But aside from her design, she's a nothing character to me. Rosie had more to do, and she's not even a main character.
Hot take: Thomas, Emily & The Snowplow is better than No Snow For Thomas. Emily actually plays a part in Snowplow, and she’s still always looking out for Thomas, she’s in line with her S7 persona, just her approach is different. No Snow, she’s just kind of an NPC, you could swap her out with any other character. Percy has been through a lot in the series, I have an actual arc planned for him in my series. Thomas was way too forced in the HiT era. As for Henry being the best, I agree. He’s my all time favorite, thank you for speaking my language. I had health issues when I was younger and I never gave up, I came back stronger than ever, that’s why I love Henry.
My top 2 favourite Thomas characters are Gordon because his Arc in RWS was just beautiful and Diesel 10 is my second favourite because he was the first true villain
Question: What personality did you give your Emily as a child? Also, I would like to see a more in-depth video about why you think James is sad on the inside. It sounds like an interesting idea and I would like to hear your thoughts about it.
James The Red Engine is easily my favorite Thomas & Friends character. He can definitely be a jerk often to others, especially to Thomas, or Percy, but deep down he has a heart of gold, and is clearly on the side of good being willing to help out his friends if they're in trouble. Journey Beyond Sodor is honestly one of my favorite moments in the series with him because he proves his usefulness, and goes out to find Thomas thinking something bad might've happened to him, while initially being selfish wanting to be the one who took the important goods train out into the mainland. Also maybe you could do a ranking on the team of diesels in Thomas & Friends. I would personally rank Mavis at the #1 spot.🚂🔴⚫️
My ranking: 1. Gordon 2. Henry 3. Rebecca 4. Edward 5. Thomas and Percy (Classic Series) [TIED] 6. James 7. Toby (RWS/Classic Series) 8. Emily 9. Nia (not a fan of her)
0:20 duck has stronger main character energy than Emily and he should’ve been in the eighth slot as Emily is just a random happy season seven character which hails in comparison to duck who’s existed for much longer and has a more developed and interesting personality than Emily will ever have.
One pet peeve is when.people rank things that don't fit neatly as is if episodes are ranked from a season that's goodso basically if something that has no consistent theme kind of bugs me a bit the steam team are kind of teetering on that line, but it's a Thomasfan261 video so I know it'll be good, also this is before I watch the vid.
Certainly one of hit's dumbest ideas. I mean nothing wrong with having a core set of characters but making the show all about them alone just doesn't work.
8. Emily. (As much as i dont hate her, there are just some episodes where i think she failed badly) Nia and Rebecca, i guess they are ok i just think Edward and Henry slapped both. 7. Percy, i love his cheeky moments, in the newer cgi series though i wasnt a fan of him though, he was always getting scared. I like the model michael angelis percy better. 6. Toby, i love Toby, would he higher if he was shown more though, i also find him abit to calm at times. 5 Thomas, yes, the character we all know, i just found him really annoying in some episodes, john hasler thomas and michael angelis Thomas are my favourite, the others can be abit bland at times. And in the newer seasons, i can even call Thomas really bad at times, he did start it all though so plus points for that. 4 Edward, uses to be 2, but bad development in the cgi series. 3 James, i love his personality, some of his voice actors fail for me though. 2 Henry, knows how to make a cute, funny and nice personality right, i love it everytime henry laughs. In S1 and S2, he was abit of an idiot at times, but he improved from S3 to S21 and became an innocent big bean. However The BEST engine 1 Gordon, this engine will always be number 1. He has so many famous quotes. Thomas, you'll help me and i'll help you. O the indignity. Uncouple me at once! Im going back to my shed! Hurry up you! Ive never once lost my way. Its also so amazing seeing him when hes protecting his friends. Watching him protect Thomas from Spencer was pure Legendary, one of the rare Thomas movies where Gordon is slightly a hero! Since in the Great race. (Tbh, he should have been the main character in the great race.) He wasnt very nice in that film. This hilarious legend will always be my number 1 engine. Who agrees with me on Gordon being number 1. Ill miss thomas and friends alot because it got replaced with the abomination known as All Engines Go. I dont care about how bad BWBA May have been. I just want cgi thomas back. Thomas will never be the same without George Carlin and Michael Angelis In loving memory of both. Im sorry i didnt count Duck, its just he's apart of the great western railway. So i wouldnt rlly call him apart of the steam team. If i had to rate him, i guess if i rated him somewhere it would be just infront of Thomas.
Oh a fxcking hate Emily and the fact that Duck is not paired with this group and Emily is, is just such a let down for his character. Plus I also found Emily's character super annoying, she's like Paddy Farrell from Diary of a Wimpy Kid
You should be grateful that hit didn't assassinate duck's character by not using him. Plus duck wasn't never relevant as a main character after season 4. He's mostly been a support character. Emily could have worked just fine if they had ironed out a few things regarding her personality here and there. Plus at least with emily we got time to know her before having her as a main character unlike nia and rebecca who were forced on to people while replacing edward and henry, two OGs that started the source material for the tv series. Emily being a main character over duck is not as bad as replacing edward and henry with nia and rebecca. @@TheSteamGuy5125
If I wanted to make a steam team I would just make it based on each line The mainline steam team: the big 3 engines, Emily, and Rebecca The Farquhar gang, Thomas Percy Toby daisy and mavis The Brendam bois: Edward, boco, bill and Ben, salty porter and cranky The western and Scottish bois Duck and Oliver and Donald and Douglas

I am going based off of the group that started it all for 6 seasons straight. Plus I was never was a fan of Emily anyway so even if I did including her she would've been at that bottom anyway.) 1. Gordon 2. James 3. Henry 4. Thomas 5. Edward 6. Toby 7. Percy
Emily was ok but they confused so many by giving her a Scottish VA for the UK version but sticking with English for the US which is more accurate given her RL base was made in England but still Hate how everyone was treated after that stupid book was made that misdefined everyone
Ngl I always hated James, I did not like how he was always so selfish and vain as a kid and the CGI series just made him an absolute asshole for no reason. See Tale of the Brave, Duck in the Water, James to the Rescue, Apology Impossible and the list does on
Don’t take this personal but.. I do not like that you put Percy and Edward at the bottom list. SURE you may put them all because the HIT era did some weird decisions. But then again, this is why I think about season 1 to 5 and the railway series and have my little AU in it because sticking with Cannon in the TVS drives mostly everyone bonkers. 🫤

HE'S BACK AFTER A MONTH
My top 2 favourite Thomas characters are Gordon because his Arc in RWS was just beautiful and Diesel 10 is my second favourite because he was the first true villain
Gordon:”I’m fastest and best! I pull the Express!”
Question: What personality did you give your Emily as a child?
Also, I would like to see a more in-depth video about why you think James is sad on the inside. It sounds like an interesting idea and I would like to hear your thoughts about it.
percy has always been my favourite honestly.
1. Henry
2. Gordon
3. Percy
4. Edward
5. James
6. Toby
7. Thomas
8. Emily
I kinda like all steam team members. (No offense to anyone who don’t count Stanley, Nia, and Rebecca) my favorite is definitely Thomas.
Me personally, I would include Nia and Rebecca in my Steam Team with the other 8 characters
wooo new video!!!
A bannana
Percy is the butters of thomas and friends, i dare you to try to prove me wrong.
can you do a ranking of gordon’s voice actors please?
YES, that's what I want.
Gordon is my fav character, I would love to see him rank all Gordon's hilarious voices!
Great ranking! Heres mine
1) Henry
2) Percy
3) Thomas
4) Edward
5) James
6) Toby
7) Rebecca
8) Gordon
9) Stanley
10) Emily
11) Nia
what about duck
Why is Stanley on the list
@@ketelieappolon3617 The Great Discovery version of the Engine Roll Call included Stanley.
@@ABellEngine oh alr
@ttteproductions7609 since he was never part of the Steam Team I didn't include him in the list but I'd probably put him at number 9 above Stanley
Another *BANGER*
Like for Thomas

Edward and Percy are the goats
My 3 favorite characters are in the top 3. Sweet!
My ranking of the engines

7.Toby
6.Henry
5.Gordon
4.Thomas
3.Percy
2.James
1.Edward
My ranking:
1. Gordon
2. Henry
3. Rebecca
4. Edward
5. Thomas and Percy (Classic Series) [TIED]
6. James
7. Toby (RWS/Classic Series)
8. Emily
9. Nia (not a fan of her)
5:43, where did you find that meme?
I agree so much with you man Henry is also my favorite character
Agreed... It's really hard to choose favorites... So I don't..
But Thomas is my favorite to do models for
Thankfully the good stuff in the Brenner era outweighs the flaws which is minor.
I agree so much with Henry he’s my fav too, Henry forever
Great Video
0:20 duck has stronger main character energy than Emily and he should’ve been in the eighth slot as Emily is just a random happy season seven character which hails in comparison to duck who’s existed for much longer and has a more developed and interesting personality than Emily will ever have.
My Ranking (opinion)
1. Henry
2. Edward
3. Gordon
4. Toby
5. James
6. Percy
7. Emily
8. Thomas
8. “Henry”
7. “Emily”
6. “Edward”
5. “James”
4. “Toby”
3. “Gordon”
2. “Percy”
1. “Thomas”
Actually I think it was in Whiffs first episode it was Emily who met him. I think Thomas was in the start, but didn't meet him
Yeah I recall Whiff's debut episode being about emily having to work with the knew guy. Thomas never had a role in that episode.
Can you do a video of your top 50 pieces of music from the classic show?
3:29 (turn on captions)
so we just gonna call Annie and clarabel onion car now??
Gordon is definitely my favourite character is thomas
One pet peeve is when.people rank things that don't fit neatly as is if episodes are ranked from a season that's goodso basically if something that has no consistent theme kind of bugs me a bit the steam team are kind of teetering on that line, but it's a Thomasfan261 video so I know it'll be good, also this is before I watch the vid.
My list:
8. Emily
7. Thomas
6. Toby
5. Percy
4. Gordon
3. Edward
2. Henry
1. James
I agree the Steam Team is one of the stupidest things in Thomas
Certainly one of hit's dumbest ideas. I mean nothing wrong with having a core set of characters but making the show all about them alone just doesn't work.
i agree but id put edward like in 4th place
but in rest i completely agreee
I really don't mind the concept of the steam team
Great video and ranking
Hot take : Brenner era Edward > Classic series Edward.
no
That take hot as fire bro 💀💀💀
@@dragonboy265Classic series Edward is still great :)
Gotta be honest, i respect that
@@SolventBirb Thanks :)
8. Emily. (As much as i dont hate her, there are just some episodes where i think she failed badly)
Nia and Rebecca, i guess they are ok i just think Edward and Henry slapped both.
However
The BEST engine
1 Gordon, this engine will always be number 1.
Thomas will never be the same without George Carlin and Michael Angelis
In loving memory of both.
Im sorry i didnt count Duck, its just he's apart of the great western railway. So i wouldnt rlly call him apart of the steam team.
If i had to rate him, i guess if i rated him somewhere it would be just infront of Thomas.
Wow, our lists are so simular...
I made this list before watching the vid. (Didn't read any spoilers though)
To me Percy got the short end of the stick
My Steam team ranking are...
Edward
Henry
Gordon
Thomas
James
Percy
Toby
Emily
Stanley
Nia
Rebecca
Edward is my favorite.
If I wanted to make a steam team I would just make it based on each line
The mainline steam team: the big 3 engines, Emily, and Rebecca
The Farquhar gang, Thomas Percy Toby daisy and mavis
The Brendam bois: Edward, boco, bill and Ben, salty porter and cranky
The western and Scottish bois
Duck and Oliver and Donald and Douglas
Bannana and orange
To me , James is always the best in the steam team
We james is the most consistent character of them all. He stayed who he was since the classic series.
unpopular opinion: hit era Gordon> classic series Gordon
Kinda agree but honestly I love in every era even in the BWBA era :)
he's my fav character for a reason
Here's my ranking:
8: Emily
7: Percy
6: Toby
5: Edward
4: James
3: Gordon
2: Henry
1: Thomas
My List (no for the love of god I am not including Emily at all cuz I do not consider her a main character of the original steam team. I am going based off of the group that started it all for 6 seasons straight. Plus I was never was a fan of Emily anyway so even if I did including her she would've been at that bottom anyway.)
1. Gordon
2. James
3. Henry
4. Thomas
5. Edward
6. Toby
7. Percy
Emily was ok but they confused so many by giving her a Scottish VA for the UK version but sticking with English for the US which is more accurate given her RL base was made in England but still
Hate how everyone was treated after that stupid book was made that misdefined everyone
Yeah hit really squandered everything that britt established in the tv series.
True in season 13 is iq goes from 40 to 20
My list
1. Gordon
2. Henry
3. Toby
4. James
5. Edward
6. Thomas
7. Percy
8. Emily
Bro spitting facts Henry is the best character
Well said 😄
11:12 AEG in a nutshell.
It's James I'm sorry it's James
(Its also my name🙃)
Thomas number 1
Ngl I always hated James, I did not like how he was always so selfish and vain as a kid and the CGI series just made him an absolute asshole for no reason. See Tale of the Brave, Duck in the Water, James to the Rescue, Apology Impossible and the list does on
good job Thomas you are mid
Leave Emily
THOMAS IS NOT A LITTLE SHIT
Great video my friend. I wasn't a big fan of the steam team concept either as it thrived as an ensemble piece. Well done ☺️🚂🚃
Emily is my least favorite
Don’t take this personal but.. I do not like that you put Percy and Edward at the bottom list. SURE you may put them all because the HIT era did some weird decisions. But then again, this is why I think about season 1 to 5 and the railway series and have my little AU in it because sticking with Cannon in the TVS drives mostly everyone bonkers. 🫤
