    Jay and I look at any stucco textures and/or finishes that match what's existing. In all my years of plastering, have I matched every finish on the money? Of course not, as no one can do that. I have recalled a few jobs where I struggled to match textures with Jayson, my son, who said, Dad, I can match that on the money with little effort, and sure enough, he has done so.
    The moral of this story is to be experienced enough to match almost every texture imaginable as best as possible.

      We all go through that stage, been there done that too, but after awhile we find our hands cracked and burning or bleeding from the lye in stucco, we at that stage go to a thrift store and invest Two-bucks for white long sleeve shirts to protect our forearms neck etc, from the lye in stucco, man I can tell stories when I was young and tried to be cool by not wearing these shirts or even gloves. But the lye in the stucco taught me who was boss.

    You guys are true craftsmen!!! Beautiful work! I work in San Diego doing handyman and remodel work. I’m restoring some old 1930s windows 🪟 in mission hills this week. The stucco is failing and needs attention. Moisture problems, I believe, and cracking that has been neglected and not sealed. The Old paint is peeling off and the first layer of stucco crumbles off in some small areas. It’s a smooth stucco finish. I am going to use Image.
    I’m curious, when you have chalking from areas where the previous paint job peels off, and small areas in the stucco that need to be repaired, do you use a bonding primer prior to coating with your stucco product? Something like a clear masonry primer or extreme bond primer?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  5 месяцев назад +1

      Keep in mind, La Habra's image acrylic finish stucco, can only be applied ppaper thin or it spider cracks. I only use it if absolutely necessary as I don't care for it. Any chalking from old stucco should be pressure washed clean as nothing sticks to a dusty surface, except spider webs.
      Lastly, I use Larson's Weldcrete or Quikrete as the stucco bonding agent.
      Quikrete is easier to find for home owners as it's sold everywhere, Weld-Crete is only sold at plastering yards.

      Appreciate the reply! I have had success with the quickcrete bonding agent for patchwork. Is there any other product for smooth stucco finish? I guess I could build up the repair with rapid set and top coat with image. Thoughts on that?

      @@dannyblessent8459 yes there is but not an acrylic, it’s cementitious, but I prefer it. It’s Santa Barbara Smooth Mission Finish, made by La Habra. Or Marble made by BMI.

      How would you recommend cleaning a prepped hairline crack? I don’t want to shoot water into the stucco if I can avoid it. Maybe it’s not a big deal. A lot of those products are special order. You only hydrate the base coat, if you hydrate a color coat it will discolor like pouring clorox on bluejeans.
      Instead before you apply a color coat, you soak or hydrate the base-coat walls. This allows the color finish to adhere permanently. There are lots of rules to cover here, type in hydrating stucco walls for more information.

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  6 месяцев назад +1

      Howdy, Stucco-Flex is an acrylic finish.
      Ekoplast-50 is a lime basecoat.
      You can apply stucco flex on top of the basecoat, but I would not mix the two together. FYI, Ekoplaste is not brittle; in fact, it's really strong.

      She was a hottie, I remember "the thug," the young actor named Nicholas Nolte, now in his eighties. The book says the young kid, "Mac," played by Nikalas, asks the Chinese store owner to rent his garage; the Chinese merchant says no. Mac says, don't you want someone to guard it in case it catches fire? Suggesting in a way if he doesn't let him move in, he'll burn it down. The merchant says, Okay, five dollars a month, Mac says three. They both realize the merchant will never get paid, but that it won't catch fire either.
      You can't rent much these days for three bucks a month.😉

    Hey Kirk thanks for another great video. I've watched a lot of your videos by now since I have a an old 1920s stucco home. Can you give me some advice on an issue I'm having? I just discovered I had a leaking window and it has caused some wood to rot at the lower corner area of the window. Parts of the stud and window framing have rotted out, but I can replace that from the inside.
    The problem is that there's a 6 inch x 6 inch area of sheathing that also rotted and the paper damaged. Do you think I should fix this(from the exterior) or can I get away with not fixing it? I plan on replacing the windows and repainting the walls to fix any leaks as you've advised in other videos. Appreciate any help!

    Here is a question as you asked: I have a stucco house with layers of stucco, synthetic mesh, then closed cell styrofoam, then some sort of black drywall like boards (not as hard as drywall) I want to be able to attach with a fastener like water downspout strap, or a small address number plate, or exterior conduit (all light weight like 2 lbs max). What is the best way to anchor into this as I dont feel screwing into that gypsum like board about 2" into the system would be a good alternative? Thanks and your helpful videos have been used to keep my house looking good.

      You’re referring to the Dry-Vit stucco system. You have little choice the first inch or two is styrofoam. The screws need to hit something solid to hold tight, screws at least two and a half inches are your only choice.
