THE STATUS OF NON-COMPETE AGREEMENTS IN CALIFORNIA JUST GOT WORSE FOR 2024
The status of non-compete agreements in California is a topic of much concern for employers and employees alike. And it looks like things just got worse for 2024. Recently, Governor Gavin Newsome signed two new laws that are set to have a major impact on the enforceability of non-compete agreements. SB699 and AB1076 both aim to restrict the use of these agreements, making it more difficult for companies to restrict their former employees from working for competitors. This news is sure to be met with mixed reactions, but one thing is certain: the landscape of employment law in California is changing rapidly.

Glad I found this. Just got a letter from my previous employer, delivered last week valentine's day 😂. Stating that the new California law makes both non compete and non solicitation clauses void. The are based out of southern California

Great video Steve. In the midst of a non-compete lawsuit in CA right now as a pro se defendant. In my answer to the complaint, I noted SB699 to opposing counsel. Appreciate your knowledge, willingness to share, and breaking this down on the whiteboard for those of us who didn’t go to law school. Appreciate it!

Hi Steve, what if the employers location is in a different state that does enforce non-compete but employee is in California. Would non-compete still be enforced?

I currently work for a pest control company, but will be starting my own soon. Would I legally be able to take customers from my current employer and sign them up with me when I leave the company?
