In her third book, Brooks examines the destabilizing shift in boundaries between war and peace that have made conflicts difficult to contain geographically and almost impossible to end. From her perspective as a Georgetown University law professor, daughter of anti-war protestors, wife of a Green Beret, and the former Pentagon special coordinator for rule of law and humanitarian policy, Brooks shows that the conventional military is increasingly overtaxed with nontraditional duties, while its most basic responsibilities are complicated by the effort to identify an enemy that doesn’t wear a uniform or use a recognizable weapon. Without clear boundaries, Brooks warns, America’s wars threaten the very foundations the country was founded on.

Sorry, but the first minute of introduction is completly wrong. War has been the norm for the last couple of thousand years, peace is the exception.
What is exceptionally now is the perception that peace is the norm.
I have to say it- I’ve noticed that the introductions at these “higher end” bookstores for authors are more often being done disservice by bumbling, fumbling, can’t “eye- address audiences”. Looks like this task being given to overworked bookstore managers who don’t have 5 seconds to rub together to properly introduce speakers because the bookstore owner is too cheap to hire adequate staff..
Under the taliban 2002-2003 20% of world heroin production. Since US invasion 90%.Well done.
Militarism is not the characteristic of an army, but the characteristic of a society.

The Patriot(ism is the last refuge of the scoundrel) Act
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way. War is nothing but the expression of a failure. Sorry to say. With all due respect, at one point, sooner or later, you sit down and make peace. How many millions have to be sacrificed is the price of our own (mankind) limitation in grasping the extent of the meaning Peace.
39:38. "we don't do that stuff" you gotta be kidding........................
She's genuinely surprised that people have an issue with what's she's saying.
Talking about political policy without talking about the now global oligarchy since its inception and the profiteering entities that are influencing our political policies is less than productive and ends up being simple chatter.
This woman seems to be so pre covid.

In the book " 1984 " isn't the World always engaged in imaginary wars? Sound familiar?
