Alyssa Mastromonaco’s first book is a vivid and engaging behind-the-scenes look at former President Obama, his staff, and daily life in the Obama White House. Currently chief operating officer at VICE Media, Mastromonaco started working for Obama in 2005, during his race for the U.S. Senate. After his election as president, she served first as the White House director of scheduling and advance, then as deputy chief of staff for operations. She saw and learned a lot in these years, and from her unique vantage point she reports not just on politics but on the strategies she herself developed to be successful, including confidence, cooperation, and hard work.
Mastromonaco is in conversation with Annie Karni of POLITICO and Audrey Gelman, co-founder of The Wing and a former press aide for the Clinton presidential campaign.

Excellent interview, but the question I'd have is what happened in Flint?
Flint is a near-ideal story of heroes and villains, of the oppressed enduring the cruelties of austerity and the man of the people rolling in to lay down some righteous judgement.
Instead: a tall glass of "nothing to see here, folks." It might be unreasonable to think Alyssa would know but I at least would ask.
