Just tried this mod on a very cheap custom board with steel plate and plastic case. Worked like a charm, the difference is night and day, way poppier and louder overall. A few tips for anyone who wants to do this quickly with minimun effort: - Use a sheet of thin PE Foam, ideally less than 1mm. You can find them in many pc parts packaging. - Easiest way to make holes for the switch bottom housing is with a soldering iron, set it on low heat and just poke through like butter. - Another tip If you're lazy and dont wanna spend hours removing and reinstalling switches: If you own a cheap board like I do (which the plate hold on to the PCB purely by the friction of switch pins), just carefully separate the plate and the pcb while leaving the switches where they are (on the plate), put the PE foam on top of the pcb, tape the 4 corners to hold it in place, proceed to poke holes and cut out spots for stablizers. The last thing is just align everything and push the plate (with switches still on it) and the pcb together. I've done this many times and had no bent or broken pins so it's safe to say you can also do it with minimal risk. There you go, you just made a budget Jelly Epoch.
The easiest way to cut out the foam that I've found is to grab your plate, lay it on top of the foam, grab a fineliner or a small marker and trace around the plate + where the stabs are going to sit, then lift the plate off the foam and trace what you just drew with a scalpel, small knife or a pair of scissors. Hope this could help someone who might be struggling with it
Ayo nice voiceover dude, I honestly prefer that to text as I am often doing other things while I have a RUclips video up. Interesting that we've discovered the Jelly's secret... hmmm
Great guide! How would you say it affects sound when compared to the stock EVA switch foam on the Sun68? Also, while anti-static foam would work, it's actually recommended to use regular PE foam because anti-static foam is slightly conductive.
@@jkwonnn Interesting! I guess they just added it for the international GB. I'll be sure to compare it vs PE when I get mine. Looking forward to more bored bear content!
I think the listing on amazon you showed in the video is different from the linked one. Also there's been warnings from people about truly non-conductive PE foam, in that the black one. can cause shorting, would be good to mention that.
why the black one specfically, also is there even such thing as non conductive PE foam because I've never seen it before is there a difference between the white and black?
those were blon bl03, these are my first "enthusiast audio products" so i don't really think i'm in the place to give my opinion haha. but for my use, they are fine.
This is a great updgrade with my mk870 with gat yellows and it cost like 140 total with the lube tools and stabs ;-; (my mom doesent want to hear it anymore lol)
oh I did this mod on my keyboard after that I ask my friend of what does he think about putting a static foam under the plate he said *don't put a static foam under the plate because it will create electro static causing multiple clicks* yup that's what he said then yesterday. The letter key *T* it started double lettering and not functioning and I quickly removed the static foam now. It's already fix
hey! i personally used pe foam that came with my tofu :) you can use this foam as well: (affiliate link from a different channel i work with) www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KC2FH8F?smid=AO626OP2I2G7O&psc=1&linkCode=sl1&tag=nearlucid-20&linkId=77d4e083bff3676af506d985b3c5a828&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl
Can anyone comment on why the recommended thickness is o.5mm thick? I want to go as thick as possible without issues after installation. (I'm not concerned with install but slippage potential when in use.)
wait, do you put the foam over the middle part or under the whole keyboard completely? idk if that makes any sense, but that’s the part I’m having trouble with. It seems like it’s a middle layer? 1:41
@@SydneyitsSydney uhhhh i would be very concerned if your keyboard doesn't have a pcb. it's the circuit board part. are you sure your keyboard is mechanical?
@@SydneyitsSydney i would first make sure that your keyboard isn't soldered, because if it is, then you will have to go through a lot more work to do this mod. you can generally find out from the product page, if there is no mention of hot swappability it is probably solder.
