    It did look like after the control was returned, it seemed to target the pillar instead of try to avoid it. I would like to see the control room cameras from the steering area.

    That accident could had been avoided had the US government authorities had installed concrete barriers in front of the bridge foundations to prevent ships from hitting it, like they do with new bridges. It was negligence on the part of the government.

    Poor design, a bridge over a shipping channel that can be destroyed from one pillar being knocked out. Negligence at its finest.

    Surely the bridge should have been made strong enough knowing that its possible, a boat could hit it? Should have always been ready for that type of thing..

    • @jpdemer5
      @jpdemer5 29 дней назад +1

      Boats today are three times the mass of what would have been planned for in the 1970s. Nobody thought to retro-fit the piers with fenders as the need for them developed. After this disaster, we're going to see a lot of exactly that.

    Yeah, that bridge came down WAY TOO easily! There was NOTHING of strength surrounding the supports! That bridge was just an accident waiting to happen and I can't believe the builders didn't know that all along! Negligence!

  • @fenderac3049
    @fenderac3049 29 дней назад

    Why wasn’t the ship being towed out by tugs, one on the bow and one on the stern being attached to the ship, and one on the port and one on the starboard side which would be used to push against the hull if got into difficulty. The bridge construction leaves a lot to be desired with no defences around the bridge supports.

    How this even coulded happen??? Tragedy. Innocent people passed away by this tragedy. Vessel can be fixed, bridge can be fixed. But people you will not return. Tragedy of course😥

  • @bfa-xi1py

    At 0:46 you can clearly see the bow did take down the pillars before the pier did stop ship. Pillars were not protected at all, in 1980 similar accident happened, but bow only did "chip" pillar.

  • @jpdemer5
    @jpdemer5 29 дней назад

    The ship's lights went out, as did the steering. I'd look at the generators if there was a total loss of power like that. There should be a backup system in place, and I'd want to know why that failed as well.

  • @heretoforeunknown

    The collision is too convenient to be passed off as a bonafide accident. There were many places around the harbor the ship could have run into and grounded, but the bullseye was the bridge pier. Three commercial jets found their target with ease. There needs to be one imperious person in charge of the whole cleanup or there will be delays and a lot of buck-passing.

    I think they lost steering, not the mains. The lights run on generators separate from the mains. Also 7 knots is kind of fast. That speed limit should be 3 knots. Was it foreign flagged?

    • @jpdemer5
      @jpdemer5 29 дней назад

      Singapore flagged. Very few cargo ships are US-flagged, since we have inconvenient regulations.

    This is a big tragic of HUMAN ERROR by the crews member on board. it caused her Power Main Engine failure and Generator shut down and The Crews member looks like they never done of the Emergency Steering Drill when her generator Black Out to control Course Heading by manual Steering Gear Pumped . also she late dropped her port Anchor. that's why she was drifted by Sea Current and lost control to avoid collision to The Bridge and she looks like DEATH SHIP.
