  • James McLarnon and his Dad visited my orchard last year after getting in contact and took away a car full of apples which he has made into cider. He gave me a few bottles of his own cider to taste. Here is a live and honest tasting of 'Dragon Slayer Gold' which has loads of runes and some astonishing art work on the label!

Glad to here from you I grafted ah planted 500 apple tree years back because of your incredible videos. I got hit by hail twice the first spring and lost most trees and have slowly been building the orchard again. I'm in America. I had put in 70 varieties. Thanks for you past videos and this one.

Holy cow! The man is back! I'm an American (with nearly full English bloodline) who started a cider orchard in the last few years. Sadly, I found your channel JUST as you stopped posting videos. Very glad to see you back and looking healthy. Cheers and God bless you!

Thank you friend. It has been a true joy that we were able to inspire and instrucxt others. I haven;lt posted ufor a long time as I honestly thought I had passed on all the advice and information I had. Julia and I each found ourselves more engaged with other projects that have nothing to do with the orchard.
We stopped selling fruit 10 years ago (we give it away when we can but a lot is consumed by wildlife, no bad thing) and are indeed planting some of the orchard up with forestery trees (beech, wild pear, oak etc), and it doesn't get the fruit tree specific care it used to have. It is developing more as a semi-wild fruit garden and nature reserve, also a place for people to find a bit of peace. We had an open day, BBQ and live music there last Saturday attended by around 50 people.
Clearly there is a small but loyal global community that appreciates videos from our lovely orchard, and I will try to put some 'time passing-what we are up to now' videos up this coming autumn.

Saw your photo in the YT feed & thought, "What happened to Gary Chynne?" Then realized it was you, sir. Glad to find you hale & hearty. My climate is hot & dry on basalt soil. Quite different from Hampshire. You were part of the reason I now grow Lamb Abbey & Claygate, 2 of my 3 favorite apples (3rd is GoldRush). In hopes of making cider at home someday I have tried a bunch of cider apples & now have American red-juiced: Otterson & Redfield. Cheers!

Last fall was the first year I pressed cider that included apples I grew myself. Among those were some Dabinette that came from a tree I grafted myself. Your videos set me on that path many years ago. The finished product was excellent. I wish we were on the same side of the Atlantic so I could share. Cheers!

It's nice to see you drinking cider healthily after a long time from far away Korea. I sincerely thank you for the grafting technique I learned from you. Your delicate grafting is the best. Stay healthy always.

My goodness! I’m so happy to see you reviewing my cider! What a privilege! I bottled that batch in May 2022, time truly is the best ingredient. I look forward to seeing you again in the near future. All the best. ❤

So good to see that Stephen is well and enjoying the fruits of his labour! Highly recommend subscribing to James McLarnon's channel - there are some wonderful new videos of Stephen's orchard on there as well as some interviews with the great man himself.

Nice to see you back Stephen! Even though I’m across the pond in Maine, USA I really enjoy your content and your straight shooting. I recently moved and put in a small orchard at my new place with heirloom apple varieties. I included Wickson and Grimes Golden apples for cider, both are reported to be good “single variety” cider apples. Well we will see in a few years! Cheers!

I know you will hate me guys but this is very sad, I really like Stephen but I like to see him in his orchard minding the trees and growing vegetables, I don't like to see him in a room drinking alcohol and only God knows how much does he drink, when I was watching his videos I was saying to myself: lucky man to have such a beautiful orchard to spend his retirement, I never thought it will end this way, I think what happened was so much apples not much you can do with them, make cider and more cider and ended this way. I am typing and fighting tears
