I'm getting too old to be unloading the piles out of my truck by hand so I found a solution.... Unloading with the push of a button!
The frame and body were unharmed in the accident. The suspension took the hit and is pretty easy to replace. We have to figure out what size parts we need so we order the right stuff on the first try. I can't wait to start using it but I am worried I may not get the keep it long as people have already been stopping and making offers.
As a Texas Pride trailer owner, I have a few suggestions for you. 1) Go back and weld every joint on the frame (especially the rear cross section where the hinges mount). I had a weld break and it split the beam half way across. I had to fix it myself because they wouldn't warranty it. 2) Pay for the better axels, my entire hub fell off while it was under only 5 tons. I bought the 14 ton dump trailer, nothing should've fell off. 3) That gate problem is actually a design/fabrication error. My gates stayed straight about 3 months before both of them were dragging. The uprights that hold the gates are just face welded and have a tendency to allow the sides to distort inwards at the top. I built a combo gate, so I cut out the 1/8 2x2 square tubing and replaced with 1/4 2x2 square tubing. So if you plan on keeping and actually using the trailer, get ready to make some repairs and modifications. You should be able to get at least 10 videos out of just repairing the trailer.
Consumer Reports Pro Tips are in the comments. ;)
I am less that impressed with the quality of the trailer. It will do what I need it to do and for what I paid, it was a good deal. I don't understand how they get more for these trailers than other brands that are far superior in quality. I would be pissed if I had bought one new but then again I would have walked away after looking it over before purchase.
@@vehcor I personally wish I would've bought a BigTex dump trailer, they are built better but they cost more. My Texas Pride trailer can't really be called one of their products because of all of the fixing and modifications I've had to do to it. I guess you live and you learn.
vehcor they produced a ton of them after hurricane Harvey hit Houston, should have seen the dozens of tp trailers hitting the road, so doesn't surprise me if you got one produced in a rush.
Your meticulous approach to the tasks at hand, your good jacking technique (awareness of the soft tarmac and use of jack stand plates) and your careful lifting technique to avoid stress on the body when refitting the wheel, together with your excellent advice throughout (eg, keeping the nut on the bolt to avoid thread damage when using a hammer to remove it) and your calm, professional and humorous presentation make your channel one to follow!
I'm really looking forward to catching up on your earlier videos, and to seeing your new ones, too.
Thank you for this excellent, well presented video.
Thanks for the kind words. There was a bit of evolution in my videos so the older ones may not be as entertaining or educational. lol The viewers let me know what they wanted to see and that is how we got here. Thanks for the support!
I really enjoy watching rebuilds like this. Making something slightly second hand look and work like new again.
Thanks, it is fun to do different things sometimes!
No more in the pile...now its in the trailer! Nice little change of pace.
There will still be "in the pile". The will just be in the trailer instead of on the floor.
In the pile, in the trailer!
Awesome video. But I lost it when you gave her all the safety gear, plus sign the release forms lol. Great video and thanks for doing something outside the box.
All the safety "experts" have been very quiet in this series. lol
vehcor Hahahaha, even osha decided to say my bad, they CrossFit lol. Great job man.
"In the Pile" Trailer.
Why haven't you hit 100k yet? Such a great Channel!
He's growing pretty fast, i expect him to go to 200k in a year probably
jclark more like 600k maybe!
@@mistardoyle3042 mr eric O only has 300 some 🤷
because people no longer appreciate timely results....instant gratification is the way of life these days.
Humpty the dump trailer is going to haul all the piles from now on since my old scrap truck was totaled (hail storm). I am surprised my channel is this big. It has been less than a year that I have been posting real-time videos and only 6 months that I have had a weekly upload schedule. I have patience, my goal was 100k and figured on at least 10 years. Who would have thought a wrecked Silverado would have been so popular. lol Thanks for the support.
I don't know about the other safety experts but yes, safety glasses while underneath anything is important. Other than that, keep up the great work. Thoroughly enjoys your videos.
Oh, they are not happy until everyone is in a plastic bubble. lol
You forgot to wear your safety harness when you got on the trailer 🤣. This one is going to be very helpfull since I have to do some maintenance work on my trailer.
I knew I was forgetting something. lol
I learned a little trick that would come in handy for your helper or for someone not as strong. Place a pointed end shovel under the tire you want to place on the axle and use the handle as a lever. Takes the strain from your back.
She could have done it, she was just being lazy. So..... I made fun of her. Let's see if she tries harder next time. lol
Be sure to post updates on the trailer. Want to see how you go about repairing it. I like that lug measurements tool. Will get one to add to my tools.
Part 3 comes out today.
Had me dying when he said the CrossFit tires must be lighter 😂 love the sense of humor
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I think I have started a war in my house though. lol
I do too , I love the humor and comments has me really enjoying these
I have a 10 year old Bri-Mar dump that I've beaten the crap out of, on and off road, stone, brush, scrap metal, you name it. Replaced the chinese tires at the 5 year mark- started blowing out, and the battery once, packed the bearings with synthetic grease, and that's it. No complaints at all.
They may not look pretty after some use but with a little care, they last and work hard!
I have found a great idea for a spare tire is to cut a spindle off your old axle And weld it to the side where your spare goes then you can have a spare hub and bearing’s As well as a tire
Michael Hensley I just finished rebuilding a wrecked trailer that had bent axle. Cut the good side off and welded to trailer for just that reason 👍
very good tip
We do that at our dealership its a great idea
The trailer had a tire mount on the passenger front
@@dinotudisca3821 yeah it has a mount if you paid attention we said cut the spindle off the bad axle and weld it to the trailer and that will hold an extra set of bearings and a hub and the spare what dont you get
I think the night crew was reserving her curling strenght. You have an awsome evening crew and I'm sure your beyond proud of them.
I think so too. She is not one to give up that easy. I am very proud of them! Shhhhh don't let them know!
You always astound me when it comes to your repairs. I have learned a lot. I am sure glad your helper decided to Not wear the danged OSHA stuff !!!! Reminds me of my wife, God Bless Her Soul. She was always there to help me and get it done. Will be waiting for the next video. Keep up the teaching, it helps a lot of people.
It was like 110 in that garage, she was a good sport for putting it on in the first place. lol Thanks for the support!
This gentleman is amazing. He brought out big interesting things out of little. He’s creative and thoughtful... just love his sense of humor. 👍👍👍👍👍👌
Had me all excited with the car at the beginning, but I will certainly settle for this rebuild, as long as there is plenty of fixing going on.
I think my G8 will be the only one I rebuild but you never know, I do have lots of parts.
I have enjoyed all of your videos. Very straightforward. Thanks and keep them coming.
Thank you, will do.
Hope that you save the brake components from the bad axle. Spares are priceless, when you need them. Even extra lug nuts.
I saved everything that was good.
I learned from you that removing all covers, panels that block access is the way to speed completion. In the past, I've spent an extra two plus hours changing power steering pumps or even a serpentine belt because I didn't want to take the time to remove the radiator shroud or access cover. Thanks.
We have all fallen into that trap before. lol
Great video. Glad to see you still have your Cat-Eye Duramax
vehcor do you still have the mistake truck?
2017 trailer and the rust makes it look like a 2007. Gotta love those Illinois winters, lol. Grew up in NW Ohio myself...road salt is hell on cars and trailers.
This trailer was actually from KS.
Texas Pride?! As a manufacturer I wouldn't be so 'proud' of a trailer that looks this rusty after less than two years on the road. Can't believe how much rust it has all over it. Probably cost half a fortune too when it was new! :|
Salt from northern Winters I suspect.
Addicted to Projects...unfortunately 95% of all trailers mass produced like these use a flawed prep program prior to powder coating. Only a few manufacturers even use true paint anymore. If the prep process was more thorough it wouldn't peel off in sheets in less than 18 months. And yes..that dump trailer new was north of $7500 easily. It was a 2017 model. Now they're over $8000.
Glad I live in the south
They are pretty expensive and I don't know why. The quality is pretty low. The rust is no big deal, most dump trailers that get used look like that after a season of working. There are a lot of other things that I do not like on it though but it will serve my purposes perfectly.
@@SuperScooby70 You are right on. No manufacturer has paint that will stand up to stuff being thrown on it or dragged across it. It is just something you learn to expect if you are actually going to use the trailer. The rust doesn't bother me but the lack of quality in other areas make me question the amount of pride in their work. lol
I sit on my butt and lift the tire with my legs when they are heavy. I find it easier like this. Nice video good job!
I have done that too. Thanks for watching.
Interesting, nice trailer, nice weather, nice helper, she deserves a nice dinner for helping.
If nothing else just normal support..lol
She gets a nice dinner at least once a week and we both enjoy working in the nice weather when it finally gets here. lol Thanks for watching!
That trailer was from madisonville Texas on hwy 45 just 20 minutes down the road from me. The have a huge selection there.
I am jealous, I wish I lived down there instead of this crappy state!
What’s the name of the place?
The night crew sure comes in handy.
They can be quite helpful sometimes.
Axles are measured from back of brake flange to brake flange. The spring mounts are weld on where you need them to be. You have to do that.
Another great video! Glad to see you making her get her hands dirty too!
Thanks, I think she like the work! lol
See now you've truly piqued my interest...this is stuff I work on daily! Lots of trailer repairs thru my shop. Everything from complete rewires to whole new decks, refurbishing older trailers etc. Have fun on this one!
I have done a few trailers, it is fun to change it up a bit. I was actually more excited about this build than most of the cars I buy. 😂
@@vehcor lol...I do a few old trucks here and there for fun but trailers are good money for easy work. Right now in my shop I've got a 2011 PJ 14k 24' deckover full hydraulic tilt gooseneck that I'm redoing for myself. Has typical peeling powder coat, non functional brakes, non functional charging circuit for the batteries and the deck is rough. Got it cheap enough I can put some money in it. Brand new these trailers sell for $11,850. I'm in this one for just less than half. I'll be using it for myself when it's done so I'm going to put 4 to 5 days into it and make it nice. Love the videos man. Keep up the awesome work.
Alexander McKay some are definitely not worth fixing. Most the ones I get through here are older ones needing a refurbish job. I've had a few come in that were in accidents and they end up being too twisted to mess with.
Excellent video. You are always full of superb ideas and neat projects. Careful with the back.
Thank you!
This is awesome. I've been looking at trailers at the auction. Thought about picking up a car trailer. Just had no way to transport and didn't want to pay through the nose to had it delivered. Now that we have those release forms signed i'm Looking forward to this one!
I was a little unsure how I was getting it home as well. lol She has signed her life away, it is time to get to work!
throw the tooolbox on craigslist for 50 bucks..someone will buy it...nice little dump trailer not too badly damaged, little welding...little paint some metal and she will be good to go, way way cheaper than buying a new one..heck even a used one... and they are always easy to flip if you dont have a need for it any longer...
I figured I would CL the toolbox first. These things have become very popular because of their usefulness!
@@vehcor Even with a handle missing and no key for the lock it should go easy....lots of guys dont want to spend the 250 and up to buy new ones... and hey thats money right back into your pocket
Yukon turned out nice 👍
Thanks, the new owner is quite pleased with it!
You got some big gunz, over there, man!
💪
Thanks
I am looking for that exact same dump trailer. Awesome video thanks
I would recommend a different brand honestly. It is not the best quality I have seen, that is for certain. Thanks for watching.
I love the safety thing.. that was funny! She acts like she is a good sport and didn't get mad.
She is a good sport. It was 110 degrees in that garage!
I was expecting some Buddhist monks to appear at 6:39 😁
Hahahahahahaha!!
LOL
The afternoon crew looked thrilled to be wearing all her OSHA approved garb.....lol. Cool thing about fixing a trailer like is its mostly just structural shape steel you can beat on or replace cheaply back into shape and doesn't have to look pretty in the end. Like you said its just for hauling junk. "The Mobile Pile"
She was a good sport. The garage was probably about 110 degrees. lol I'll need a few little pieces from the steel yard, I may even have some scraps laying around. Now the piles will be easier to unload!
That right rear spring had some cracks in it... liked the video. Some great one liners.
I see the afternoon crew follows your lead , safe gear is gone lol
This build is going to be awesome! I’m tuned in all the way!
Thanks for the support!
No problem!
nice to have a competent pit crew !
This pit crew struggles with the tires but will get there with some training. lol
How about that helper, good job. Hard work, attention to detail, that is why I watch. Where is your other helper? Thank you for taking the time to share your build's with us.
She is a good worker for sure. The other one was working a different job that day. Thanks for watching.
I honestly almost skipped this one. I didn’t think watching someone fix a box on two axles could be that interesting.
I never thought watching me fix anything would be interesting. lol
Just found your channel and I must say this video turned out better than I thought it would have. You have a new subscriber. Til next video, later. 👍👍
Glad to have you with us! New video in a few minutes!
From watching your video ..it looks like that spring is broken too..plus great video
It is just the paint flaking, I had to double check myself after I saw the video. lol
That's a lot of rust for anything two years old. It's got to be that infamous US habit of salting the roads. I inherited my Dad's old trailer in New Zealand and we've only just retired it. It's from 1974. I can't imagine that trailer lasting even close to that long.
These are just not the best quality and this one was used for construction. I don't know about down there but up here, no one is worse on equipment than construction workers. lol
Saw the car was hoping it was the next on to be repaired o well. This should be a good build
Nope, it is a parts car leftover from my G8.
Love your video's been watching from day one
I smell another G8 build coming up 👀
Not on this channel that I know of. That was a parts car for my GXP.
This whole mechanical thing doesn’t work out I’m joining the trailer rim quartet😂😂😂
I'm sending this video in as my demo tape!
vehcor lolz 😂
I like when she helps!
Me too, less heavy lifting for me!
Afternoon shift looking good as usual 😃
😂
I'll tell her you said so!
Awesome!!! Excited for this one! Safety 1st... always make sure you fully lock the doors open when you dump it hahaha I watched many people at the scrap yard not doing that and bent the shit out of the doors
Thanks, the one thing I like about this trailer is the latches to hold the gates open! I have seen the same thing when people forget or the doors swing closed. lol
Watching this from wet old Ireland where we Galvanise our trailers so they dont rust so bad.
We paint our but this company does a horrible job at it and a lot of other things.
Hell's bells you gave me a fright, for a moment there I thought the health and safety nutters had got to you, don't do that to me I have a weak heart 😰😳😵🤣. Good to see the boss getting down and dirty but where is the rest of the team you'll have to read them of a strip when they show up 👀🏷️🌁.. have you ever thought your probably the first on RUclips to do a build on a dumpster trailer to help with your piles. As always truly impressive can't wait for the next post. Gary..... England 🇬🇧
Don't worry, nobody gets to me. lol I did figure I might be the only one building a dump trailer, that is one reason I decided to build one over buying one. They are pretty expensive used but I got this one cheap.
This was a different video but a great one. I’ll be ready for the next one
Thanks!
I’d keep the hub from the good side of the damaged axle. Could come in handy some day
Of course!
It will be a good trailer after being fixed up mate 👍, loved the mid video comedy safety sketch 😂
It will be prefect for my uses. Thanks for watching!
Parts car!! Good tip on lifting the tire with your leg, I’ll try that next time!
Everyone want me to fix it. lol A little late for that!
That’s what I thought! Didn’t you have another black G8 parts car? I’m keeping track just in mine needs something 😁
I have a feeling that this trailer will be better than new when you're done with it.
Honestly, they did not set the bar too high!
Nice. Another trailer. Cool to mix it up, and you had FUN in this vid! Laughed my arse off a few times. :)
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Just love vehcor on Fridays , wearing my in the pile T shirt !
Awesome, thanks for the support!
are you kidding me? that much rust on a 2017 model ?
That's what happens when you use equipment.
They dont prep much or prime costs too much!!! They all go to hell quick!! Moritz trailers are terrible!!!
You need a "in the pile" t-shirt 🤣
As always, great video 😁
*edit* I just saw the t shirt 🤣🤣🤣
Mr. Spotty/ in the pile combo shirt. lol
This just goes to show that just because it’s a trailer it isn’t indestructible!
Anything built can be destroyed! I have many trophies from my destruction of indescribable things from over the years. 😂
vehcor
Lol!
It’s just that in movies anytime a car hits the trailer lf anything, it always seems un damaged. But car is destroyed.
If I remember right, a lot of places sell the the whole axle with springs and brakes and backing plate as a single unit, so replacement is easy...just expensive.
Yes they do
I also go to bontragers in white pigeon Michigan a little bit of a drive for you but that whole area of northern Indiana and Michigan has a lot of trailer rv surplus
Thanks
Sweet love it , a change of pace !
Thanks!
Nice donut at the end "i knew you had it in ya " !
I think I have a few more donuts in me!
Man I love your sense of humor!
Thanks, some people get it!
Not so sure this is much of a challenge for you..but I'll still watch.👍
I'm out of challenges, now I am just going for different. lol
Nice build something different when you doing the Audi build that looks interesting to nice to watch keep up the great work great videos
No Audis here, thanks for watching!
...$25-50 on craigslist for the toolbox, better than scrap prices?
Yes, I planned on that but since there are tons on there, it will probably be scrap.
Classic finish to another fun video.
I have more of that nonsense coming up. lol
GT-6 + a trailer..nice vids to come !
Thanks
Cone part of the lug nuts go in 😳 looks like I have to flip mine around
Why does everyone want to put them on that way? lol
I like using the knees under the tire to lift/guide them, then you're using 4 points of contact.
Great video man.
Thank you.
You should do a start to finish rebuilt from finding it on copart or where ever to how to use the auction site and then the rebuild I think that could get really interesting
I don't have the time right now for that but I will keep it in mind for when things get a little slower. Thanks for the suggestion.
Your definitely a lot funnier than you are good at being a mechanic! Great video! Never gonna rebuild a trailer but at last I know how know!
But YT haters say I am not funny. I must be a horrible mechanic then! lol I'll show you how to build a trailer and add some chrome!
vehcor I was excited you took a break from your chrome! If I looked like you I’d stay away from chrome! And mirrors! Lol
Excellent video
Thanks
Hey big guy pull some measurements to check if that front axle is aligned properly. It might have just been the camera but the angle of the last few minutes made that driver front tire look crooked.
Everything is good, it is most likely the camera angle. Thanks
Safety Sally's are curling and crying everywhere lol, good job as usual!
My job here is done. lol Thanks for watching!
"Got to sign these release forms" 😂😂
Just one or two....... hundred pages!
Cool project...love it
Thanks
I'm guessing your female assistant didn't review the video before release??
Like me, she does not care what people have to say about her.
I can't believe you didn't keep that toolbox....that really nice toolbox with the handles LOL
I'll try and sell it but I suspect it will be going to the scrap yard in one of the piles! lol
@@vehcor I think it might go quick with the right price.
As the DOT officer told me it's not just the rating of the axles it's also the the load capacity of the tires that make up the trailer carrying capacity
Well its whatever the least capacity is. If the tires can only hold 5k pounds and theres 4 that's 20k capacity. If the axles are only 16k combined then its 16k.. if the body is only 10.. go on down the list basically 😂
The tire rating less 20% I think I was told because going into a corner the weight is shifted more to one side.
It is the lowest of either the tire capacity, axles, or plates. The tires are easily changed, the axles not so much. As long as it was sold as a 16k trailer and the same rating tires were put on it, it is a 16k trailer. However if you get a 7k trailer plate, you better not be caught with anything but feathers in there.
I hope you let the afternoon crew do the base coat clear coat paint job once you get all the body work done.
Maybe, I sure as heck don't want to do it. lol
I know it's a work trailer but it at least deserves a gallon of Rust-Oleum or vaspar paint. If nothing else it will keep the state troopers from wanting to do an "inspection" just tape off the reflector tape as it gets pricey. I do it for my flatbed about every two years. I live in McHenry not far from you
I used to paint my old trailer every year as well. This one will just get abused anyway, it will have to get a little worse before I invest the time.
Teach her the 'shovel method ' of remounting heavy wheels!
She doesn't need it. She can lift it, no problem.
i was thinking in my head why can't she lift the wheel it doesn't look heavy than i see his massive bricks and like fucking hell. but great video could you do more on fixing stuff because it's getting harder to find people who do good videos
She could have lifted it. She was just being lazy. Now that I have made fun of her, I bet she doesn't do it again. 😂
If the backing plate unbolted just buy that side parts and you can use the old axle
I don't think replacing the backing plate will repair a bent axle but who knows, maybe?
OSHA guys, ha! Another YT channel I’ve gone down the rabbit hole with is a Pakistani truck rebuild one. Talk about safety issues! One guy will hold a chisel on a rivet while another hammers it until it shears. No safety glasses and they wear sandals.
I look like a model OSHA employee compared to them. lol
This trailer build is far to easy for you, or did you have to fill up your time between breakfast and your first coffie 😉
Safety is importend, but using jour head when dowing things is far more importend. Great video as always.
I just like to do different things sometimes and trailers are fun to work on...... usually. lol I have been wanting one for a while and decided to build one more for fun that to save money but the saving money didn't hurt either. Thanks for the support!
LOL. Your Dad jokes are getting better.
Practice makes perfect. lol
If you have a place near by that does leaf spring work, call and see if they make u bolts. My utility trailer (someones home build in the 1960's) has a square axle. Thus I had to find someone to make me some U-bolts. Cost per u bolt was not much more then made in china stuff.
They actually came with the axle but the price for them separate was actually more than the spring shop charges. Good tip, I did look into it.
*COOL! maybe i can learn a little something to rebuild my car hauler with this video my back axle kinda let me down and i had to get another one put on when i went to pick up my first copart car (2005 Cadillac Escalade Luxury AKA our new back up truck and new daily driver so i can keep the miles off of my white one) Those rims and tires come already assembled at Tractor Supply. Not sure at all about where to get an 8,000 pound axle replacement though that's a tough one. LMAO trailer rim quartett never know man some of the things that pass for music now days you might be a HUGE hit! Those are the same kind of cheap lights i have on mine (that i would also like to replace with LED's) I also need new fenders for mine because that's what took out my tires before. (also found at TSG cheap, but if you know anywhere cheaper that would be awesome, handy and appreciated information) Oh dang! i thought sure that axle was going to drop on her for a second till you said that about the bolts. i was sitting here thinking "here comes a serious headache" lol Looked like that second from the top spring on the side where you took the U bolts off was broken too. or is that just rust? NICE little bit of fun there at the end with the G8! as i stated before I LOVE those cars but the parts are probably getting harder to find now aren't they? that the next build* ?
I wouldn't let the axle fall on her, then I have to do all the work. lol That G8 was the parts car for my GXP. The spring was just the paint flaking, it is not cracked.
@@vehcor if the GXP still runs why not find parts to put that one back on the road too? save as many of them as you can, because all things Pontiac are a dying breed and they are disappearing fast!
You're going to have to get new shirts. "Tow, Crash, Fix, Repeat"
Crash, tow, in the pile, fix, repeat
Crash, tow, in the pile, fix, repeat
I don't know that I will get into the trailer business. We'll see how it goes. lol
