Unlocking the engine and cutting up a GMC Terrain Denali

- I bought this Terrain for the driver airbag, fender moulding and one wheel and tire. Let's see if I also got a running engine and good trans to make this an awesome deal. Then we will use some parts off of it and throw away the rest.

Is the malibu wagon a future build?
It is a past build... like 30 years past. lol
82 Malibu with an 86 Corvette drivetrain. I built it before fuel injection swaps were cool. lol
vehcor Nice Grand National rear ends fit nicely in those bodies
lol i was thinking the same thing
Ha ha my first question as well “what’s a guy who builds cars have in his garage”
Probably found brown stains on Drivers seat ;)
"Everything is drivable if you're brave enough" 😂👍
I have driven some pretty sketchy stuff in my day. 😂
@@vehcor 😂😂😂
@@vehcor I drove my flooded new truck off the trailer after the delivery driver gave up doing that.
I have driven a truck with the whole side ripped off with the battery held in by an extension cord and some rope.
nice call on with the "Chopin - Funeral March" background music.
Nothing worse than being dismembered at your funeral. 😂

I'm impressed you were able to salvage so much off of a basketcase. As they say, one man's trash is another one's treasure!
It's never really treasure until he can use it or sell it.
Thank you for providing REAL automotive content. I watch all the big sponsored channels where they rebuild super cars or have other perform work on their cars. Your channel however, deals in reality. Real, available vehicles requiring varying and sometimes significant work that you do 90%+ on your own. All while filming and explaining in detail so others could reasonably follow along if they chose to do it themselves. Kudos for the consistent quality content. The national auto parts stores should be coming to you to advertise/promote if they aren’t already.
"Hey that guy runs a chop shop" said the new to the neighborhood neighbor :)
Great Video!
"That guy? Don't worry about him unless you want to go in the pile!" said the long time neighbor to the new guy. lol
@@vehcor Shhhhhh, unless you wanna "sleep with da fishes"... 🤣
Your neighbors should love you! Where else can you get free fumigation and driveway oiling services?
1: Love the music, very fitting. 2: I loved seeing the backstory on the Terrain. Disassembly is my favorite part of most projects. I could do that all day. Putting together with nothing left over, that’s another story.
liked this video a lot, and like your channel a lot too, learn a lot from your channel, from a car mechanic who is disabled now and can not do big jobs on cars anymore
Thanks for the support!
Only an adorable dog drooling around, could make your content better.
Does it count if I start drooling? 😂
thank u for the extra vid dad
No problem, thanks for watching!
vehcor Glad your children are watching. They must be so proud of you. 👍
Thumbs up for this SCRAP yard parts. Now comes the work and thanks for sharing this episode.
Thanks for watching.

That was hilarious... 😂😂😂
one of the very best informative/instructional car/truck channels I've watched.
Bonus day was not expecting this, see you Friday Thanks🤗🤗
See you Friday! Thanks for the support.
Thanks for the extra video, I see you have a G body wagon, mine is an '83 Cutlass Cruiser I'm currently preparing it for the "painting gnomes"
Thanks for watching. I have a little work left before the painting gnomes come on that one. I’ll get to it. It has only been 20 years. 😂
@ 3:35 Chopin's third movement of the Piano Sonata No. 2. You, sir, are a renaissance man.
You're my hero bro, you take on "Big Projects", and put the cars back together better than the manufacturer ! Genius ...
This was the most appropriate time lapse music I have ever experienced on a wreck teardown. Kudos
Also...when are we getting a video of that sweet Malibu Wagon?
I love your videos. What is amazing is how much on a vehicle is recyclable… much greener than people realize.
Thanks for the bonus video!!!
No problem, thanks for watching.
Love the Malibu wagon...
Genuinely curious what the plans are for that old Malibu wagon is!
I was peeping that bad boy out too.
Friday on Tuesday don’t get any better than that! You’re a beast on a tear down Scott!!
We might even have Friday on Friday as well. lol
I use to do this work in the late 60's and early 70's. I'm amazed how much of modern cars are just snap together stuff. Of course a lot less parts were in older cars. But, people were still amazed then by the amount of work is was to rebuild something right. So, back then there were plenty of hacks like there is now a days I guess. Nice to see a guy do things right. Thanks for the vid.
The hacks from the old days ares still better than some of the "bodymen" these days. There is a serious lack of skill in the trades in the last couple decades.
This was an great video. Nice to see what happens behind the scenes on these builds. And it made Monday a bit easier to deal with too!
The Death March music was a nice touch during the disassembly!
6:35 "Non Harbor Freight jack stands. " Never been to your channel before but like your level of smart assery.
A must appease the safety experts! 😂
I never realized a hydro locked engine could be fixed. Once that happens, I thought that was it! Learn something new everyday I guess! LOL Thanks for the bonus video!
Connecting rods seem to be made out of butter these days. On the older engines, you just pulled the plugs, turned it over and pushed the oil out and put it back together and you were done. They would smoke for a while but 99% saved. These days it is more like 40%.
I used to turn the engine over several times with a wrench or a prybar on the flywheel. Only if that did not work would I pull plugs. Pretty much the same end result.
If u come with videos everyday, pretty much everybody will watch, keep going man.
I don't have THAT much time. lol
It’s great to have an extra video from vehcor! Very interesting as always! See you Friday.
You may not need a fancy shop, but you definitely need the knowledge and determination to get the job done. You my friend have an overabundance of both. Another great video.
Great job, as usual. If you're looking for project cars with minimal interior damage, and the potential for a high return on your time, check the auctions for the low mileage 2020 Lexus vehicles, particularly the RX350 and RX 350L and RX 450 models, and the big Lexus SUVs. There is an air bag sensor problem in many, if not all of them, and the air bags are reluctant to deploy in either rear end or front end collisions that total the vehicles. At the end of a collision, a message pops up on the screen with the news that there is defect in the air bag and restraint system causing non-deployment, and to contact the dealer, if you're still alive. Ask me how I discovered this Lexus feature.
Watching you methodically take a car or truck apart in short order, and then putting a wrecked one back together with the pieces you've salvaged is truly watching a master mechanic at work. You're one of the few people who understands how every system in a vehicle works and how the various systems interact with the other components and the chassis, etc. to make a vehicle work as you want it to, and, in many cases, as it should have been designed to. Thanks again - seeing is believing.
So my wife was trying to pull my car into our spot last Thursday when my neighbor decided to back out of her spot without checking her back up camera and t-boned my equinox. Then the bitch tried to claim that she was not responsible. Her insurance company believed me and not her. They called today to tell me what had to be done. New passenger front fender, front door and replace the outer layer of the b Pilar. Thanks to your amazing instruction I already knew what that entailed. And I am armed with the knowledge of what to expect it to look like if they did it right. Thanks so much!
Geez was she backing up at full throttle? lol I hope your Equinox turns out as good as new!
@@vehcor she must have been. She had a bad habit of zipping in and out of her space. Since the collision know she only backs into her space like I've always done. I hope her insurance rates get jacked sky high!
vehcor Equinox’s are 💩 from the the factory. 😳
This is like feeding on a giant animal, all good parts never go to waste.
Great video, a few good laughs in that, as well as the interest in what you could salvage from it. It's surprising just how many parts you can get from something that seems like it has nothing good on it. Seeing all that smoke reminded me of a car I had back in the 70's. It did that all the time. Good for making tail-gaters back off. Just hit the gas and cover them with smoke! We used to cut up old cars with an axe, as we didn't have a reciprocating saw back then. Always happy to see your new video on Saturday morning and the Wednesday video is always a bonus. All the best from Queensland Australia.
I never thought this would be a popular video idea but what do I know. I might have to do another on a parts car. There is more to salvage than most people realize. These have notoriously bad transmissions and with only 20K on this one, it is worth 3 times what I paid for the entire thing. Take care!
@@vehcor we like stuff we can sit back and just absorb. It is interesting seeing how stuff goes together and the best way to see that, is to take it apart.
Oh yes, lots of good parts can be salvaged on most any car besides a burned one. Flood cars are amazing for clean sheetmetal, bumpers, and usually engines too. Years ago I made good money buying smaller plastic parts and specialty electronics for pennies at the junkyard, then reselling them to people who knew what they were worth. Just have to know what a part is worth and who needs it.
Yay extra vehcor content, after yesterdays shitshow of the trans in my truck took a crap on the way to work, this is required!
Glad to see another mid week video. Just sucks that its not actually Friday. LOL! As for the oil fountain, they suck to have to clean up. Leaving off the oil cap when you change the oil in your wife's car makes a mess. And she is not amused.
I wish I didn't have a real job and could just make videos. lol The oil fountain just helps prevent rust. You were rust proofing while changing the oil. Some people just don't appreciate the hard work you do for them. lol
@@vehcor I know you cant do it all the time, but its nice when we get an extra video once in a while. Youre right, she just doesnt understand why we do what we do with cars...lol
Very interesting....thanks for taking the time to put this up. Really enjoy your videos!
Did you just disassemble a Denali in 2 hours and 45 mins? Wow !!! I like the idea of working on these Denali's. Nice trucks and a good system you got. Been watching you for a few months now.
2 videos a week? You’re really kicking it up a notch!
Cleaning out the hard drives while the ad revenue is good. Make as many as you can right now, it will drop a little after the election and a lot after the holidays.
Thanks for the tip. I didn’t even think about that. I’ve been recording plenty, I just need to edit, which is my least favorite part. But you know all about that.
Man bonus day!!! 2 vids this week! On vacation this week. Love the way you tackle whatever you need to in order to repair a vehicle back to better than OEM.
Hurray! It's happy cut down Tuesday! Something can't you can't denyli over!
Amazing how many good parts are in a wrecked vehicle.
When pulling parts at the JY for the bikes I was flipping I'd grab spark plugs (blast clean and re-use), light bulbs, low-time chains/tires, bolts and all sorts of stuff that would otherwise nickel and dime me to death. Watch the pennies and dollars will accumulate.
I rebuild vehicles at home, you should have seen the looks my neighbors were giving me when I was cutting up a truck cab into a bunch of pieces to take to the scrapyard. Also when I drove a stripped car with no body panels🤣🤣
Those Ecotec engines are awesome !
Really liking these bonus videos. Keep em coming if possible!
Great video, currently finishing up rebuilding w211 in my garage. Almost everything is possible to be done at home but it's fun hanging a subframe , laying on your back and having an engine supported with chains over the fenders....
You must be lots of fun at the 'Bone Yard'! Some might say, you ended up with a lot of junk. I see it as a lot of money in parts we wouldn't have to buy! BRAVO and thanks for the midweek bonus feature. Stay safe and THANKS! Sonny (CT)
I don’t know what it is but I really like the videos you make.
Thanks!
went to harbor freight today, they have some really good deals on shop rags.. i still think of you when i go there and laugh when i look at the jack stands.. .. keep rockin.. good vids
The safety experts don't like jack stand roulette I guess. lol Thanks for the support.
Dude you make it look so easy. good work.
You are pretty amazing brother, I had no idea how interesting collision repair could be. I mean I really enjoy refurbishing old motorcycle's , quad's, atc's fixing up a vehicle from time to time in my life, and I guess I never considered how much variation of work from one job to the next. Heck I guess it's never too late but for sure had I had YT 20-25 years ago and had seen you doing this. Well I'm sure it would have inspired me to make the commitment to make it my actual profession and career. Congratulations on your success, no doubt we know why. You do the shit right and keep plugging away at it 💯. Stay safe, stay strong, Murica fk yeah!
Nice that you took it to the shop to suck the AC down😁.
Amazing Work.

That's a lot of drive and determination for a parts car!
Just part of the job.
Nice like the Malibu wagon under the plastic. I used to be big into the G-body stuff and always wanted a wagon. Still have my 84 El Camino which needs an LS...
Honestly, it would be pretty cool to hear the stories of some of the previous owners of your parts cars.
Love this video. I noticed '80ish Malibu wagon in your garage covered up. My parents had a 1980 or 81, vinyl seats too. 😬

Thanks for the bonus! Something that has become quite scarce in this day and age. This video shows how quick it is for chop-shops to dismantle a vehicle. With a team of guys it will take about 5 minutes?
Great VEHCOR is spoiling me, 2 videos a week yeehaw 🤠

I like how you do your video's. Set the camera up and go to work then voice over later. Sometimes it gets painful watching someone try to do two handed projects one handed so they can hold the camera.
Thanks, I need to get the work done more than I need to make the videos. lol
No way i couldn't like 80% of a Terrain cut up sitting in the back of an old Chevy truck! Thumbs up! Now i know where those red frame rails came from on that Terrain build video...

Thanks for the laugh, man (funeral dirge was great) ... it's been a tough week... Love your humor and your channel. Always informative AND entertaining.. Much success!!!
You had to work at GM at one time. LoL. Ur amazing!
I thought I had a smokey start when I overdid the oil fogging on my Dodge truck....fogged it for winter storage...no mosquito cold start the following spring.
I like to squirt a little extra oil in the cylinders when I have an intake off just to mess with the whiners in the shop. lol
Half a quart of trans fluid poured down a carburetor would fog a 16 stall shop real quick. The service manager was not pleased with our shenanigans. Btw, not a customers car, one of the mechanics brought his car into the shop to do some work on it on his vacation. We did buy him a new set of plugs. Dan.
