He's talking about the Spanish conquering the Native American's and creating Mexicans. How the Mexicans have forgotten their indigenous heritage in favor of the Spanish culture that conquered them. People of the Sun are the indigenous people. You should listen to 'No Shelter' badass song
You are kind of right. I am pure Native Mexican. Some proununce it Mechican. But that's not right either. I only forgot my culture and heritage because I was raised in the U.S. where people like me were despised and still are by many. Hating your skin and your blood is a horrible thing. I am only now taking it back.
It's also a little deeper than that. To go a step further, it's and invocation for Native peoples (specifically Aztec and Mayan people are referenced in the song) to reclaim their heritage from the effects of colonialism that the Spaniards brought and destroyed these native cultures in Central America. It can fit for any indigenous culture that's been screwed over by colonial powers such as the USA, but the song is centralizing it to Mexico and America. For example the line about the spirit of Cuahtemoc alive and untamed refers back to Cuahtemoc - who was the leader of the Aztecs as they resisted against the Conquistadors. Troops stripping zoots refers to the Zoot Suit riots and how the government cracked down on them brutally and also at the end that Los Angeles is continuing the ethnic cleanse. Extrapolate that out a bit and it's very relevant how the United States in general continues to participate in the cultural genocide of indigenous peoples to this day (i.e. native boarding schools, allowing the testing experimental on natives like cattle without knowledge or consent for pharmaceutical companies, and testing nukes near indigenous reservations and not historically acknowledging the horrific birth defects that were caused as well as literally killing off entire community population growths. Those last examples aren't specifically mentioned in the song but when Zack was talking about the ethnic cleanse - those are some examples that all happened within the last 60 years.
So you think if all Europeans and others whose ancestors were from other geographical areas went back to those places. Would the native nations that are here revert back to tribal living. And empirical rule. Or would they keep the laws that protect individuality. And are against kings and queens. Would they allow immigration or would they lock and maintain their borders?

I got you big dawg. You like that funky heavy rock shit with some boom bap rap from Rage, Peep “without a face” by Rage against the machine. Zack de la Rocha is a poet. There’s a lyric video you can find on RUclips made a few years ago it breaks down each line and the photos and clips the creator put it all together is tough and woke af. Rage should definitely be your favorite rap/rock group or at least deserves to be in your top 5, at the very least. Your videos are legit man. Keep it going! Much love!
Know Your Enemy. You need to do that song next. You need that song in your life lol. But Zach is always teaching real history. Every bar that you don't understand just means you need to do some research...i learned alot more through Zach's lyrics....forced me to pick up books and read...soon you'll see why we love RATM. ✊🏽
Interesting anecdote, since you love them: I went to Hackensack High School & Kool & The Gang recorded their video Victory there... and my locker (along with others) is in the video because they shot the football locker room as the basketball locker room.
Whenever you listen to RAGE you need to have a dictionary along with a few good world, U.S, Mexican History books and dig into them. Oh can't forget about Blacks, African American, Asian the list is endless.
I think you should do freedom, fistful of steel, and they're two more popular songs, killing in The name and know your enemies!!! Can't wait to hear the female rock / punk reactions hope you get Halestorm, and The pretty reckless in there!!! And I'm pretty sure Rage should be a staple now!!!
Just to add to the conversation Zack is half Mexican so you know he is coming correct on this one. Been listening for 26 years and the album is in my ride right now. Try freedom. Banger
You can't go wrong with any Rage song, but my guy, check out Run The Jewels - Close Your Eyes (and Count to Fuck) ft Zach. Killer Mike, El-P and Zach kill it bro!
Mexica is pronounced “meh-she-ca” it’s the native language of the Aztecs which is Nahuatl (nah-wah-tul). And very different from the Mayan language. The Maya where indigenous people further south of Mexico and some were in southern parts of Mexico but mostly in what is now Guatemala, El Salvador, Belize and pretty much spread through all of Central America. Till the Spanish came and called them heathens and changed their names and culture. And thanks to Mexico and all Central American countries, the Spanish never came knocking through the back door to concur the United States of America. That was already taken care of by someone else, but that’s a different conversation for a different song haha.
If you like that 90's funk/rock resurgence, you should also check out the Red Hot Chili Peppers if you get a chance. I'd recommend starting with "Give It Away Now."

Zack isn’t “woke”. He’s the alarm
Rage is always consistent, their first album is the best but all are fantastic. I'm music expert, but I've loved them for the last 30 years.
Since you asked, the name of the front man is Zach dela Rocha...a gifted Militant poet born 30 to 40 years ahead of his time.
Say it with me... Mic Check.... you're gonna thank me.
