Chinos voice is so smooth and seductive, even when he's singing about disturbing topics he makes it seem so sexy and cool. He's like encapsulated the entire concept of tortured artist in his voice alone, vulnerable yet alluring. There's like this ethereal quality to him and Deftones in general, they capture such a specific feeling for me, like a high end party with a ton of heroin where everyone is trying to hide their flaws from each other.

I totally agree. I always say to peoole, when they ask me why Chino is my favorite singer; "It's his voice but it's also his whispers and pauses." She explained it in technical terms I did not know!
A great example of this is the second verse in Bitches Brew by Crosses when he sings "' 'Cause when you move and shake..." you would think the whisper should go on "move" but he instead puts it on "when" and it's SO perfect. He really knows how to play with the pauses and the whispers! Between Chino and Maynard, "Passenger" is like a masterclass in sexy whispers😁

It's so exhilarating to see Liz being so intrigued and exited by the wide range of vocal expression (and in general the musical expression as well) showcased in metal music, obviously having fallen in love with metal in general (#spoiledbymetal).
It's very refreshing to see someone so openminded about differnet singing techniques, especially given her background. More often than not, people educated in classical music tend to look down on other styles than what they were taught. Not to say that classical singing is a challenge on its own to do properly.
But also when you look at other styles, most pop-music tends to stick to the basic techniques, which lie relatively closely to a more classical style. Metal on the other hand has such a wide range of different styles being used, and most of those have more to do with conveying a certain emotion, then trying to stick to a standard technique. Deftones, KoRn, Alice in Chains are prime examples of saying F* U to conventional styles. But also harsh vocals like Jinjer uses give yet another dimension of vocal expression. And it's one of the reasons why metalfans like metal.
