I currently work at the Ohio Theater as a stagehand. And I know all about the 1971 Halloween show that the Grateful Dead played at the Ohio. But I have never heard anything about this show. Thank you for sharing this bit of history with us. I'll share the link to this, with other stagehand deadheads who work there.

Well I think this was the show that the piano wasn't tuned so that resulted in a delay. But it was a great venue for the show. I think the tuner they called in was from Circleville. We used him up in Gambier when we had a Steinway for Chick Corea.

    Daylight
There’ll be a time at the end of the night,
When daylight comes to my delight.
The light will come and shine in me,
and light my way for all to see.
I'm so tired of this dark night,
Daylight come and give me sight.
I'm looking for a bright new day,
Daylight come and light my way.
If daylight comes in the middle of the night,
I’ll stand up and end this fight.
I’ll drop my gloves, and raise my hands,
And shout to God, “Forever You Stand!”
I'm walking now in the bright sunshine,
You came to me and renewed my mind!
The things I've lost I’ll lose no more,
I've laid them down at your front door.
I step out now, I'm on my own,
I'm by myself but not alone.
When night time comes next time around,
I will lay this body down.
When we become aware after a cold slap in the face, situations become a little more clear, and we see there is still time to lay our efforts down and go along with the ride, realizing anything we do cannot compare to what has already been Spoken, knowing any help on our part only impedes progress. Then, after a time, we can look back and see the serendipity of our failures, or, we can look upon our life and conceive things have gone awry, not seeing the complete puzzle while standing on a single piece. Or faithfully rely on the promises God has laid down for us. When we do this, it is like the brunt of a wave washing over the sand, clearing the old footprints and seaweed, leaving a fresh, smooth new shore. We may have time to build new castles and cities before the next wave comes, always leaving a fresh, clean Beach to gaze upon.
Throughout the space of time, we build things and age will tear them down. We do this believing we are doing what is right in our own eyes only to capture a glimpse in the moment of the Divine to see our efforts are futile. These moments will be with us for eternity.
His voice calls us from the end of time, but, our fallen nature turns from it, instead listening to our own nefarious thoughts believing them to be the true calling. It is only when we are drenched in His Spirit that we become magnanimous to the situation set before us and able to walk in complete faith, oblivious to the modified world around us.
Therefore, we cannot dwell on the things we have lost or gained, for they are temporal and of least importance. When we bask in the spirit of the moment, only then do we find complete happiness and contentment.
    Kenny Carneal 2009 😊

Wow, never appreciated Donna before, in later years seemed not to stay on note, but in this show she is fabulous!

Both of them were zonked out on drugs + I saw an interview where she blamed it on the music being so loud she couldn’t hear which I do believe happened bc their concerts were extremely loud. The Dead & The Rolling Stones were the 2 loudest bands I’ve seen -especially in the smaller venues. It wasn’t uncommon to have ringing ears for a day after seeing either of those bands. I can’t think of any other band that did that to my ears and I saw several lollapaloozas with Jane’s Addiction Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc.

so beautiful...so many thoughts; unbidden..pulse forward ..like the waves..reminiscing about what we had...now that they are lost...ah, the cost we pay..that ol day 2 day...used to run with a pack..tight and rowdy..now it's harder to get game..with so many gone..swallowed by holes dug and covered...some times the easy fun gets grave..
