Hi there, I enjoyed your video and have subscribed. I'm just over a year into woodturning, have had quite a lot of lessons and do a fair amount so am relatively competent with traditional gouges and skews and am producing a decent finished item with few errors and generally improving. The experienced people at my club are entirely pro-traditional tools though and refuse to engage with carbide tools...or even discuss them! I need to invest in some hollowing and box making tools to move on and wondered if you thought going down the carbide route is a no-brainer. They seem 'easier' (less problematic) to use inside hollow forms but equally seem more expensive than a decent quality (say) Robert Sorby tool. Any thoughts welcomed.
Hi there Mike firstly thank you for the nice comment and thank you for subscribing, i have used a lot of different tools over the years and the last 2 years i have switched to carbides, in my opinion the Easy Wood hollowing tools are fantastic , the number one hollower when i got it was a game changer , it removes material like butter and its not as aggressive as some others on the market , in my option their cutters are far sharper and last longer and the quality is worth the extra money again in my opinion, i have a full set of the cutters with standard rake and a full set for negative rake for when I'm turning resin or a very hard wood, i get a really good finish , i must say i am very happy with them and they are top quality. hope that helps you in anyway Mike.
Thank you, that is great advice and good to hear....looks like I'll be saving up my pounds! I'm going to be in Toronto in the Autumn....I wonder if a set is slightly less expensive in Canada than UK? I'll have to do some research. All the best.@@agkwoodworks3136
