    Fun fact: The author of Mahabharata, one of the most important epics in Hinduism, was born to a fisherwoman. So the caste system was not as rigid as it became later especially after the 10th century. Good thing is that the caste system is regressing now with affirmative action from government. It still has a long way to go to be completely eliminated from the society but it is not as severe or rigid as it used to be several decades back.

      Vaibhav Shah those white Indians like Nehru etc,didnt they make caste worse?Were the dravids not so bad?

    • @PurushNahiMahaPurush
      @PurushNahiMahaPurush 6 лет назад +12

      Mike Berg no...as much as I like to shit on Nehru for his idiotic policies and the diplomatic/military failure with China, he did not actively push for caste based divisions. He also did two things pretty good. One was establishing and maintaining a stable democracy for 15 years and the second was pushing forth education and industrialization of public sector. Although his approach was stupid. But you have to remember that Socialism was yet to blow up at that point. This is the 1950s we are talking about when USSR was reaching its peak of power under Stalin's socialism.
      And Nehru was not a "white" Indian. He upheld western ideas because they were and still are the best in most cases. Indian philosophies had stagnated ever since late 17th century when India was under constant wars between different kingdoms.

      Ramanyana was written by a reformed Dacoit, Shivratri fast was initiated by a low born hunter. Dashratha's widows, Stayavati, etc didn't had to burn themselves at their husband's funeral pyre . My point is a lot was increased later because of corruption
      Also according to early Vedas, all varnas could exist in a single family

    I went to a sivananda ashram, it's the happiest I've ever been.
    It's serious and regimented but you really can become a yogi, continuing practice in normal everyday life and get on your way to living your best life.
    It's done through a combination of selfless service (good action to everyone without judgment), transcendental meditation, and chanting /singing /praying. If you're going to a country where they have the ashram then go.

    A big inaccuracy, caste system got rigid post 700 ad, and during the advent of british colonialism, it was solidified by the british codifying the population, not the same but somewhat like what happened with jews in germany during the second world war. Now the caste system is going back to its ancient roots, and that system is not rigid, your caste( a negetive term introduced by britishers) was essentially what your career was. And anyone could move, however it was not uncommon for people to carry out their traditional careers, hence keeping the family skill and knowledge intact.

    Hilbert, I don't think you'd find it .
    I believe my grandparents said, according to early Vedas and Upanishads, all varnas (or castes) could exist in a single family. It was based on occupation Also many of the prominent rituals,festivals and Poojas were started by low born.
    In fact both Ramayana and Mahabharata were written by a reformed Dacoit and a fisherwoman's bastard respectively.
    My point is , a lot of corruption made more damage to the system than intended by the texts . Also there were female scholars and ascetics , particularlyand women quoted left and right ,so maybe it wasn't meant to ve rigid ,but you know human greed and will to segregate

      Naw but it's kind of weird how he used "Eastern religions" synonymously with Indian religions, since Tengriism is just as much of an "Eastern religion" as any of those rooted in Hinduism or Buddhism. Religions like Christianity and Islam could be considered either, depending on where the line is drawn. In my college Western Civ class, everything west of Afghanistan was defined as "Western", so by that definition, all of the Abrahamic religions are "Western".
