@@Ower8x more like a demigod, kitsunes can become Kami or gods in other words depending on their tails, a 9 tailed kitsune becomes a god level kitsune and smaller ones are also quite powerfull so not really demons, but rather guardian gods of the land of the rising sun because even when they are just youkais they have a sense of duty and they protect the shrines al around japan.

I am *very* new to OW, does this mean that Kiriko's ult was changed at some point?
The Junkrat short was made with ingame cinematics, it was NOT one of the first ones. It was released as a fun lil sketch along with the announcement of the Junkertown map.
Mcree/Cole was originally an Overwatch member, though specifically on Blackwatch, the covert ops section of OW that handled things OW couldn't, such as gathering intel on Null Sector's fortifications during the King's Row Uprising. Former Blackwatch members also include Reaper (Gabriel Reyes, commander), Moira and Genji.
Before joining OW though he was a member of the Deadlock gang, hence how he knows Ashe and Bob.

he was in the deadlock gang before overwatch as well being given the choice to join or go to prison when he was caught

Also Kiriko's mother trained both Hanzo and Genji.
Another cool detail about Kiriko's trailer is that, as far as I can tell, she's actually speaking JSL (Japanese Sign Language) with the little girl.

I love to see all these “reactions” of the cinematics where they talk through all the exposition and information and then have the audacity to be confused about what’s happening and ask the most obvious questions that would have been answered had they just payed attention.
It blows my mind how confidently wrong the top right dude is about literally every bit of info 💀💀
These guys do that for a lot of the shows they watch, it’s kind of a miracle even one of them picks up what they missed.
That’s what I noticed too or they just focus on one thing that’s like in their previous it literally showed Mccree and Genji on the overwatch and they still ask if they’re good or bad

@@Chillixion it’s not about talking in general, it’s that they literally don’t shut up and talk over the entire thing. It’s like watching a podcast with the video playing in the background. Then they get confused because they talk for so long that they don’t know what’s going on in the video. Like the least they could do is pause it when they wanna say something.
Lore that ls not found in the videos: Kiriko’s mom trained Hanzo and Genji how to sword fight. When in game you can tell Kiriko knew the brothers as a child .
Cassidy was part of Overwatch before it got disbanded. He was part of the black ops team with Reaper. He left because of infighting in the group
But TBF, IIRC he USED TO BE a criminal (part of the same Deadlock gang that Ashe is in AFAIK, hence why they know one another)
@@skebaba918 Yeah the only reason he joined OW is because he couldnt go anywhere else without people wanting him arrested or dead. I love his story, once a part of a villainous gang he joined OW and ended up becoming a very important member, recruiting people like Baptiste and Zarya and reactivating Echo. The villain to humble hero trope will always be my favorite

The dragon that Hanzo is fighting against is the queen dragon Alexstraza if I remember correctly, which is indeed from WoW. A very inportant character for the story and the world.

regular fire - just a magic projectile
alt - short range magic stream that does extra dmg to shields
ability 1- fire arrow, sets fire to targets
ability 2 - absorbs projectiles turns it into leaves which heal self and nearby allies
ult - dragon form, 6 seconds as a dragon. 1000hp (250 armour). fly similar to echo. shoots a fire stream dealing dmg and setting things on fire. alt fire shoots fireball deal 100 dmg are and setting fire

One thing to remember is that not every character in the game is directly part of Overwatch. Some of them are just well known enough to have made a name for themselves in the world or who are just fighting the good fight or supporting the underworld of things.
42:27 I believe Mercy was the one who saved Genji's life with cybernetics when Hanzo had left him for dead, and then there were some scenes in comic books that showed the two of them wrote letters to each other I think even after Overwatch disbanded along with some valentine specific voice lines between the two has led most OW fans to accept a relationship between the two as head canon. Even though its never been explicitly confirmed its clear they have a bond and is the most likely to be a true romantic pairing aside from the history Cassidy and Ashe shared.

@@yh0gur1 No, because there's a line in game that specifically addresses this. Mercy asked Reaper what happened to him, meaning she hadn't seen Gabriel (Reaper's real name) in that form before.

So, I noticed that the DoomFist Cinematic was not included by the uploader, neither is the event cinematics which DO contain backstory and lore. So those are probably the few I'd recommend watching!

The Junkertown cinematic with Junkrat and Roadhog was just an in-game graphic introduction to a new map. It wasn't the oldest but definitely before the content drought.
The audio balance is 100% on yalls end.
Something I think you guys missed was when Ashe was being road off on the payload she said more or less “I’m gonna rebuild Bob and I’m gonna have him RIP OFF YOUR OTHER ARM!”. Thought that was interesting that Bob ripped off his arm.
As an animator/illustrator myself, I would say that the Kiriko cinematic must have took at last a full year of work. Same with JunkerQueen's one
Well, that depends on how many people are actually working on those animations.
But the amount of work that goes into them is for sure enormous.
I’m just back re-watching their reaction. If you go to 52:40 when the old man gets shot, their reaction is literally and anticlockwise circle. I don’t know why, but I found it funny.
I just noticed in Mcree's cinematic the gang member rummaging in the grenade crate has a Kerrigan (SC) tattoo on his shoulder😲

They didn't do a horrible job at audio balancing. If you actually listened to the video there would be no issue. The video was not made to talk over it and try to listen to other people at the same time.

Kiriko's mom actually trained Genji, Hanzo, and Kiriko together all training with swords (Hanzo was the best) but Genji and Kiriko were likely the closest to each other out of the trio. They got into all kinds of trouble and Genji got a bull cut to match Kiriko. Genji and Mercy one of the most popular ships in OverWatch is actually supported by Genji's voice actor.
You guys have the best Kiriko reaction I have ever seen. I laughed so hard with you guys when the little girl was chasing them with the axe

I highly recommend watching the individual character backstory videos. Not everyone has them but they are VERY fun to watch.
Was waiting for this! Part 1 made me and a buddy play Overwatch again and it's really fun
What I love about this is how u can tell whay rank the guy in the top right is by what he complains about. He complains about rein abandoning his team and widow camping spawn. Two strats I have not seen widespread use of in anything higher than silver for years before this video.
The zero hour cinematic has good audio direction, it just wasnt made with people talking over it in mind.
Mcree was a member of a criminal gang before he became a member of Overwatch.
My favorite part is the talking through the best moments. Just speak during the quiet parts not during the big action.
God I hope they check out all the origins too. I think they’d love to see more glimpses of backstories and the history of the world!!

The gang in Kiriko's trailer are all the same guys in the Dragons trailer, there's something on the lore about how the temple doesn't belongs to the Shimada anymore and now it's Hashimoto territory or something
I'm pretty sure the shimada family collapsed after the losing both genji and hanzo. Genji leaving would have hyper galvanised Hanzo supported, but Hanzo leaving would have pulled the rug from under them, leaving there authority on very shaky ground.

Just an fyi, these shorts are not all in order (same for the last video too). It's also missing archive cutscenes (from in game story events) as well unfortunately. Also, if anyone is interested in the lore, there are several comic books to read for free.

My absolute favorite thing about zero hour is how dramatic and amazing they made Genji's intro to the cinematic was. The best part was that they wouldn't even have won that fight without Genji specifically, he saved winston, created the opening where the cryo bomb was placed, and cut off the hand that would have grabbed tracer which would have ruined tue whole thing.

theres so much lore that they actually miss out on by only watching cinematics. things like origin stories explain so much about reasoning behind characters, along with the overwatch archives event that happened a while ago that gave more lore from overwatch's past that new players wont get to experience, and theres comics and actual short stories that give so much insight into the overwatch universe its sad theyre missing out

They are making a campaign mode for overwatch 2 its just coming later. This is just a theory but it could come out when the next season releases because the new hero that's releasing along side it is the leader of the enemy faction seen in the overwatch 2 announcement cinematic

Ashe and her story with Cassidy is one of my favorites. Ashe put together a gang with Cass and some other guys, and she saw them as her family. So when Cassidy left the gang for Overwatch she felt like her brother abandoned her and their family for a “goodie two shoes” group, she despises him now and they argue like siblings/kids when they’re on the same team 😂

Mccree*. changing the name of a character instead of adressing the real staff members. Mccree sounds cooler, better and has actual meaning. maybe if they went with cassidy first i would´ve been ok. but the change was too sudden. they didnt have to change the name, they could´ve given him a nickname like wrecking ball (Hammond), Reaper (Gabriel Reyes), etc it would´ve been better than changing the name completely

Ashe says his name is Jessie Mcree, the one and only. Jessie Mcree is such a good fictional character with a nice name.
but they changed it to show respect to the victims of a horrible crime. No one's denying that McCree is a cool name for the character, but since it was to give homage and immortalize someone who committed horrible acts, they thought it best to change it, and i'm glad they did.

The last couple of videos with diablo and Alexstraza were videos for Heroes of the Storm. Blizzards MOBA where characters from all their games fought.

They're not "using the map locations", it's the other way around. The maps are based off of the locations in the trailers

This short with mccree came out before Ash was was announced. Nobody even think about Echo in that time.
Pretty sure Junker Queen short should be much earlier, because she's been queen for a while by the time of Overwatch 2 and stuff, so probably before Winston's message.
Well there's a newer cinematic "Calling", plus the whole "invasion" ingame story cinematics.
OW2's story mode is gonna be co-op, but it IS coming. It's just that the PVP section of the game had to launch early, so that the game could earn money again after a THREE YEAR content drought (no, new skins doesn't count as content). You can find footage on RUclips of OW RUclipsrs playing an early version of one of the first missions from this PvE mode (Mei, Rein, Tracer, Lucio) on RUclips.
Kiriko isn't a member of OW in the same way that Spider-Man isn't a member of S.H.I.E.L.D. They're a global level organisation, she's just a city level hero, doing what's best for her own. I expect that she'll be playable on ONE mission, focused on Japan, but only that one - likely with Genji, Mercy and Winston (Genji since they grew up together, Mercy since she has the romantic tie to Genji and saved her life, Winston to round out the 121 composition that story based missions have). Meanwhile, other characters, such as Rein/Echo/etc, would show up on MULTIPLE missions as they're a part of the new OW organisation.
watching people who dont know much about the backstories or the game makes watching this a whole lot funnier as someone who has played for years.
So Kiriko actually isn't a member of Overwatch, she's part of a makeshift neighborhood vigilante group that's dedicated to protecting her city

Kiriko's Front Door is at the end of the hallway, so if you look throw the peak hole you see the whole Hallway. That is why her mom could see everything. The door was not on the side.
They did kinda Focus on the last door in the corridor because that was Kiriko's Apartment.
The Dragon Hanzo fought is Alexstrasza from World of Warcraft, she is is the guardian of all life in the world of Azeroth. The titans from WoW also appointed her queen of all dragons. (she is good aligned)

So, Kiriko's mother actually trained the children of Clan Shimada, Genji and Hanzo. The two of them view Kiriko almost as a niece. When the Shimada crime family fell apart, the Hashimoto took over. It's why they are in Shimada castle in the Dragons short too. They took over Kanezaka, where Kiriko has said the people are now under her protection.

I know I'm really late here but I still don't see many comments about this. The red dragon lady in the HOTS cinematic's name is Alexstrasza the Life-Binder and she's one of the Dragon Aspects (extremely powerful, important and ancient beings that protect the Azeroth - most of the world that WoW takes place in) and she is basically the god of life itself, hence why she just made the arrow come "alive" and was just kinda chill and never really trying to kill Hanzo. Also she's the queen of all dragons (and IS a dragon, the "humanoid" form is just her visage which every sentient dragon can conjure) :)

the woman at 45:00 is alexstrasza from World of Warcraft, another game from blizzard. Along with the diablo video were advertisements for the game Heroes of the storm, they have nothing to do with the story of OW
The cinematic with the giant robot came out when they announced overwatch 2. They originally were going to have a sort of story pve type mode, and skills that could be combo'd hence the combined shield by rein and brig in there, and and putting mei's and tracer's ult's together to beat it. I'm still a little sad they didn't go through with all that.

You guys are aware of the Origin Stories, right? And the comics? They expand the lore even more than the Cinematic shorts.
So here’s a tip. DVA Bomb is a line of sight ultimate. Meaning if there is a wall or puller between you and the ult it won’t hurt you. Not sure y’all will see this but it took me several days to figure out
In Overwatch 1, there were campaign missions from before Overwatch was disbanded. But they were seasonal. Once a year kind of events. Not 100% sure why they restricted the old storyline to only be played during certain times.

The cinematics at 42:00 and 44:10 are both for Heroes of the Storm. When the first cinematic was shown, it was to introduce D'va and Genji to the game, as well as a Hanamura map. The second was when they introduced Hanzo and Alexstrasza (a character from World of Warcraft).
Other Overwatch characters that are in Heroes of the Storm are Tracer, Zarya (also released a Volkaya map at the same time), Lucio, Ana, Junkrat, and, more recently, Mei. I'd also like to add, they did a REALLY good job of transferring their kit from Overwatch to HotS. There are differences, but they still feel like the same character.
It's unfortunate Blizz shut down development of the game. It still has a decent sized player bass so it's far from a dead game. Blizzard fucked up the marketing and monetization of it, so it wasn't pulling in as much as they wanted.
