Armor, Reduction, Penetration, and Lethality: How do they work?

  • LETHALITY NO LONGER SCALES PER LEVEL.
    Post Mitigation Damage = Raw Damage ÷ (1 + (Armor ÷ 100))
    Physical Damage Reduction = armor / (100+armor)
    Process for Armor Reduction and Armor Penetration
    Black Cleaver max stacks turns 100 armor into 70
    (30% reduction becomes an armor multiplier of .7 (.7 x 100 armor)
    AND THEN
    Serylda's Grudge turns 70 armor into 49
    (30% penetration becomes a post reduction multiplier of .7 (.7 x 70 armor)
    Lethality is applied post % armor reduction and penetration
    Percentage of Lethality at level = Lethality x (.6 + (.4 x level / 18))

    You might need to update this or add a note about getting full value of lethality at the start of the game now instead of it scaling with level.

    So if you have an ADC and you want to support then, buy Black Cleaver so they benefit from it without having to buy it😅

      you could do that technically, it might not be ideal for most supports tho.

    Another misconception about Armor being worth less as you get more of it is that the value of each point of armor is diminishing. This is false,
    10 Armor will always give you 10% more effective health against physical damage.
    The caveat is that by think of armor as damage reduction you get very awkward infinitely scaling graphs because math doesnt work that way.

      Every 100 armor your total damage taking ability gets another WHOLE health bar of your HP.
      So 7000 hp with 0 armor and 1000 hp with 600 armor will die at same time.
      Armor scales with HP and HP scales with armor as we can see.
      Balancing armor and health is crucial to being effective tank. Lets say you are 200 armor and 2000 hp. You think about getting 100 more armor or 1000 hp? I would always go HP if price is same. HP helps with magic damage as well and in this circumstance it increases your damage taking ability by 50%!!! While 100 more armor does by only 33%.
      Just like how attack speed, crit, ad scales on ADC armor and tank items also scale.

      another way to say it is:
      if an enemy combo would 1 shot you at 0 armor then at 100 armor it would take 2 combos to kill you. at 200 armor it would take 3 combos. at 300 armor it would take 4 combos and so forth.
