- Tonight With Jonathan Ross, 22/02/1991 - Vic & Bob circa Vic Reeves Big Night Out's second series.
Not my copyright - just sharing found ephemera.
Despite Woss, we all now realise that Bob is a comic genius and more than an equal to Vic, and a really nice bloke as well.
True.
Vic was definitely the clown and until recently not many (myself included) realised Bob was probably the brains.
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
*Vig. You mean Vig
It wasn't about "brains". Vic is the surreal genius who, like Milligan, injected fresh ideas into the act. Mortimer is the funny guy who makes us laugh.
We need both for the magic to work.
As time has past Bob’s comic genius has shone....
As time has passed it is evident that Vic Reeves is a comic actor, Bob is genuinely funny.
And perhaps time has passed the genuinely funny comic actor and found his lunch box laden with cress?
@Bob Roberts Vic Reeves is a comic character
But who is Bob Roberts?
@@quackquackbeep Bobby Bobbertson
Vic is ''genuinely funny''
Bob was a successful lawyer at this time, thank God he became the legend he is, true slapstick comedy at its British best
Well he doesn't think so. He worked for the council on infestations. Vic Reeves was a bit of fun which became his escape.
Years later we realise that Bob's the guy you'd love to have a few pints and a laugh with. His phone in's as "Keith" to the Iain Lee radio show are legendary - and somewhere here on RUclips. Well worth a listen. Very "Pete Cook" as a concept. Nothing like Pete Cook in practice.
Do you listen to Athletico Mince?
I fancied bob since 1992 when I was 15! saw him live last month (Feb 2020) and still love him now
beltin pair they are.
Peter Cook.
@@scottandrewbrass Pieter - Pieter....
Damian down 112? He had a terrible blow last Tuesday...
Bob seems more vulnerable and brings more sympathy to his characters than Peter Cook.
The audience blanked so many jokes! Its bizarre to see how far they've come
Vic was always 'look at me, I'm ever-so wacky' whereas Bob was always happy to sit back and have a laugh with a bit of nonsense.
i get the impression that for a long time, jim could never be jim. because he was so shy, he maybe found it easier to be vic reeves, and so be over eccentric and appear a bit uptight, rather than just let himself relax and be himself. who knows, though?
Wossy is actually responsible for getting them discovered and was an advocate for them to both the BBC and Channel 4. He’s a really good friend of them both and was the one who saw the live show and thought it would work on TV. Don’t like him but he’s a good egg and a great spotter of talent.
This clip was broadcast when I was about a 1 month-old embryo in the womb - fond memories.
Ross was a bad interviewer then and over the years he hasn't got any better.
which is why you came here to watch him....?
@@stevehunt914 or perhaps I came to see Vic and Bob....
And he still has the dress sense of a cheap German porn extra.
What is so bad about him?
Don't even know why he bothers to have guests - he does all the talking
Mortimer and Whitehouse going fishing is a joy to watch.
funny you should say that, im watching it now on iplayer right now, ive just paused it to quickly look on youtube to see what bob looked like in the 90s cozi coudnt remb, and this video came up and i saw your message. strange!
I discovered that program a few weeks ago and binge watched the lot. Bob is hilarious and vulnerable at the same time. Paul is very funny too.
@@richard99970 yeah Richard, they go well together as a chilled out comedy duo don’t they!
Thank you for this massive catalog of old television recordings. I myself had a similar archive, alas, I was unable to retain any my VHS tapes. Great stuff!
We invested in a DVD recorder very early, and saved the vast majority 12/15 years ago... Then dumped the rest! Glad you're enjoying, and lots more to come when I have time :)
It's Vig's name on the poster. It's Vig that Woss makes the biggest deal of.
But I'm here for Bob!
the audience is so quiet!! I'd be doubled over watching 90s vic and bob
BOB MORTIMER IS MORE OF A KING THAN JIM.
Omg look at how young they are! And the clothes 🤣 makes me feel old.
It’s really absurd and ridiculous, there are not many who can do it well like Vic and bob, that’s why they are the very best at what they do, brilliant! I really loved shooting stars, insanity like that is what we all need
Bless Jim, he just wasn't built for interviews and tv hosts just weren't built to deal with him, he's a Dada-ist, an obsurdist, his eye is drawn to deconstruction, you can't expect conventional conversation and it would be a bad move to try mirroring his humour. I've never seen an interview that wasn't awkward
They're SO YOUNG!
Both brilliant in their own unique way.
I dont know how many times I or my young sons "fell" like bob in our home to the amusment of alll of us, my wife thought we were crackers but that just made it funnier
I love when Bob calls Vic "Jim" by mistake.
It's his name.
@@ppotter i know but he is playing Vic here
Trevor Good I think he just calls Jim by his real name anyway, regardless.
He also calls him 'Jim' in 'The Weekenders' (iirc), which struck me as a little odd as it was filmed after their comic personas were created.
Amount of catchphrases in the show was incredible.
I love them
Woss comes across as a Ranker.
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
Ross has always been (and is likely to continue being) a total W⚓️
I don’t think it was deliberate but Woss is a bit out of order here in the way he treats Bob..
Maybe as it was definitely still Reeves' Big Night Out, and Bob was seen as just the side man. But then Woss was always a bit of a nob.
I definitely prefer Johnathan Ross now, he seems a bit passive aggressive here, and i think he was maybe a bit jealous of Vic Reeves; Vic was quite good looking and had lots of energy.
I've never thought of Vic as good looking... Bob looks cuddly though.
Ross gave Vic his big break
he should be jealous of everyone who can speak
I never noticed it at the time but Ross was passive aggressive bordering on arrogance.
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
Bob gives Vic his full dues in his autobiography. Vic has an infectiously irrepressible nature that helped Bob (crappy word?) unleash his complementary comic potential (pseud time over).
Why did Ross ignore Bob? Very rude.
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
What?
Didn't shake his hand at the end and spoke to Jim directly ignoring Bob very strange!
He was only speaking to Vic
Don't understand the hate for Jonathan Ross. I think he's a nice bloke and has been a great interviewer for decades.
Not all interviews can go smoothly and perfectly :)
His brother on the other hand...
I think Ross saw Vic n Bob in their very first amature shows in Depford, and gave them their big break. In fact i think Big Night Out was a Ross production, so its strange that he's so shitty with them. I think he (Ross) is a bit intimidated by them. I think the audience are a bit clueless too which doesnt help.
Thanx for the info, i enjoyed the tension between the 3 of them.
Not "shitty" - he was never comfortable with anyone funny because he couldn't get on their wavelength.
I just watched Parkinson interview The Goons and he was a master at it.
Totally lost on Ross this. Vic and Bob shouldnt have wasted their time on this show.
It was early days... and Ross' company produced their show.
ppotter Cheers, didnt know that.
He 'found' them and got 'em onscreen - but yeah, Ross was and is awful ;)
Channel x
We shouldn't forget though we first saw Vic (before Bob became popular) on Johnathan's show in 1989..that's the first time I saw him!
I'm from USA. Who are these people and why do I suddenly understand Brazilian?
It is a terrible interview though Ross was friends with both of them, I think he found it difficult to make their comedy work with his own limited abilities. I mean did he really think they were going to open up about their families etc on TV? It's Vic and Bob!
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
When I first saw Big Night Out, I thought indignantly what the hell is this!? But it must have worked on my comedy subconscious because when it was repeated I laughed, quite literally, like a drain.
It's like when I went to see the Mona Lisa and didn't like her face. The next time I went I quite fancied her but I was wearing very tight trousers. Perhaps the same could be said for you?
'Racing Driver' was to J. Ross a pronunciational Bechers Brook.
Hotdogs for sale, oh where oh where,? Over there by the beefburgers
I saw this.
Christ, Bob looks about 14.
Widmerpool99 more like fit
I do agree Jonathan Ross is a bad interviewer, never been my cup of tea.
But he was instrumental in them getting BNO commissioned. He's a real supporter of theirs.
And it's not a Vic vs Bob because Gone Fishing is so wonderful. They're both legends, why the duo is so fab!
0:01 Wordart, in full force. 😂
They were handsome chaps back in the day
Whos viG?!
What are all you penguins doing in my garage?
Going to sit back and pretend this interview with "Weeves" and Mortimer isn't 28 years old...
The Bash Street Kid You had to mention that this interview is 28 years old, didn't you! You wouldn't let it lie!
30 years ago and Ross looks the same age!
Fashion for all three supplied by Gratton catalogue.
Bizarre how both vic & rik mayall over night aged from their youthful appearance I found it fascinating.
can you provide precise dates?
fan girl for Bob ;)
Wossy looks like Liam Gallagher with that wig on
" David Wee Woff ."
wow "Controlled insanity" really pays off for some.
Ross is one of those people with no sense of humour who do not know it.
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
Oh the irony.
That's why I deleted lockunloaded ya know I love ya rossy x x shooting sets baby x x
Bob was the talent.
This was around the time my mate sold Vic some pills!
Wow! :D
What manner of pills??
@@donaldwebb Those you find on the beaches at normandy. He collects them. Pill boxes
@@rambledogs2012 That's right
Ross helped them get their TV break. Still can't stand him though.
Is there something wrong with his legs?
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
What a motormouth woss is
Ross is such a bad interviewer
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
Can't stand Wossy.useless.
Vic and Bob....legends
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
They schooled him that night 😁😄
For the benefit of any Americans who come across this clip - No, we don't understand any of it either, we are just happy to play along😂
Watch 'Vic Reeves Big Night Out' and you too can be dumbfounded and occasionally tickled by the far out comedy stylings of this pair of alcoholic miscreants.
Or try 'Shooting Stars' if VRBNO is not to your liking, it's an easier entry into the world of their bizarre comedic machinations👍
Now I like Jonathan Ross but as a chat show host, he makes me feel anxious.
Ross is a complete and utter Twat
@@bmcgoo6027 thanks, again.
How quaintly 🧐
Bob has barely aged but Vic has.
Innocent times
Tossy Rossy
Woss twying to be wellyvant.
Very poor
Bloody Awful shirts
Jonathan Ross trying his best to be funny but sadly he is far from it.
This show on reflection was utter garabage. I thought comedy was weak now, it was rank on channel 4 for years.
