  • We review the Aperta speaker stand by Isoacoustics. Isolator stands have been around from brands like Auralex, and traditional affordable stands from brands like Sanus are nothing new. Does this radical design really do anything?

    Without question, this is the best and most definitive analysis of the Aperta stand I have seen. Honest, factual, comprehensive and relative. I almost purchased the Aperta myself, but had the same questions about why the pricing was so high and was the quality really there to justify it. The answer is given as well as it can be in this video review. Thanks.

    I own the stands and after hearing the difference in my own applications, I wouldn't set up another desktop without them.
    I didn't pay $200 for them, they were part of a monitor package I purchased. Right now they are about $150 and I could justify the cost for the result. If you are going to buy high quality equipment, you should get the most out of it. You could get a similar result with foam but foam isn't modular and after its cut its done. So you can cut more foam and play around or just fork out the cash and do things correctly.
    You are absolutely correct that the people that will utilize these are going to be a different breed. If you have some basic monitors or are listening to a low cost option, you likely don't care about accuracy in your audio and these are really not worth your money. But if you care about precision and quality and want to improve your sound to its fullest potential, the investment is worthwhile.

    Good job on the audio demo. I definitely hear a major difference between the two. On the stands there is the tightening of the low end and a more defined high end. When off the stands the sound is muddy with a major loss in definition - which is essentially what you said you heard as well. You had suggested that you can get the same results with a much more inexpensive solution? Would you be open to doing another video comparing the variety of foam pads and whatever home remedies that you suggest using the same tascam recording setup?

    Just curious, did you move the recorder's stand down whatever height the iso pads added or vise versa?
    If not, I'm sure that we're also hearing a change in which part of the speakers the recorder was picking up more of. tweeter / woofer ratio.
    I ask because I may purchase these and want to know how accurate this test was. Not trying to say you did anything wrong.

    Thanks so much for doing a sound test on these! I've been deciding whether or not to get them because they just look like plastic and rubber. But after hearing the difference I'm gonna get them. The sound is more crisp, less muddy, and the bass is more defined, less muffled/drowning on the highs! Thanks man fr I appreciate it

    I have a set of the ISO L8R200 stands for my M Audio BX8D2 monitors and they genuinely do make a noticeable difference to the sound quality.
    The bass is very much cleaner and clearer, the slight boominess i was experiencing before is completely gone, it really surprised me just how much of an improvement there was.
    The stereo imaging has improved massively too, there is a real sense of openness and space to the sound now, its dificult to explain in words but the sound is more 'airey', its uncanny.
    I would recommend the standard plastic stands whole heartedly myself, maybe not the metal versions because they do seem overpriced but the regular stands are an absolute joy for me.
    10/10 no question.

    Thanks good review, you mentioned height or tilt to get the speaker directly to our ears. I would like to get your input on which one would be better? Trying to get them higher or tilted, is there a true difference for sound quality?
    Thanks!

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  8 лет назад

      First you want to get them angled properly at your listening position which could mean height adjustment as well. If you cant get height try to slightly tilt towards ears if its not some absurd angle.

    Nice honest vid. I could tell a big difference, but I suspect that was mostly due to separation of the driver(s) from the reflective desk surface more so than the vibration-isolating properties. Tricky to test, though, I guess.

    Is it bad to place speakers on top of the packaging styrofoam my yamaha HS5s came in? It's that's what I'm using to raise them up atm (It's not spongy foam). Not really trying to spend 200 dollars on isos.

    • @savagegeese
      @savagegeese  7 лет назад +2

      +Albert Arriola Id just test with and without. Your ears should tell you if there is a problem with response. Its not about the material as much as the response. Hell you could even cut the stryo into 4 small blocks similar to the isos in video and try that.

  • @Sky1

    wearing headphones I noticed first play a loss in bass, but I think that was due to change in sound reflection off the table not absorption unless your speakers have very low mass density.

    • @Leo_Vulkan
      @Leo_Vulkan 8 лет назад +1

      +johnnieace45 Bass extension is exactly the same, what you are noticing is a change in the mids (between 150-250hz) which are more pronounced in the table due to bad decoupling. Isoacustics are a fantastic product, but most aimed to the pro audio engineers as I am, I understand that it can be a expensive product for a hobbyist.

  • @Capozide
    @Capozide 6 лет назад

    I definitely agree with your final thoughts on this video. I own a pair of JBL LSR305s, which are just budget studio monitors. They sound good -- in fact great for their price point (I got a pair for $160). There is no way in hell I would consider putting $200 stands underneath them, let alone $50 Auralex foam. I bought a set of $15 knockoff foam on Amazon. Who knows, maybe the Auralex foam sounds slightly better, but I know that from just putting these monitors on my bare IKEA desk and putting $15 foam underneath them, there was a world of difference. All audio equipment seems to have a harsh diminishing return curve. Yes there are differences, but if music is not your life (professionally) then the investment is not worth the return.

    I bet they are cast aluminum, not machined. That is why there are surface imperfections. Another comment. These may work in a condo or apartment to help isolate low frequencies from being transmitted through the floor or a wall to other neighbors. They would isolate transmitted vibration.
