@waynec38 Nothing sexier than grace, talent and style be they male or female. Tony Bennett, a Renaissance man, had it in spades. It's not about wanting to have sex. RIP Mr. Bennett.
Amy Winehouse was out of this world...so different from everyone in the music industry. She deeply cared for her music, not for fame,popularity,awards,no.1 hits. I've not seen one artist like her...fame & greed gets to everyone but not her. Rip Amy ❤
Fame did get to her, only it was self-destruction, not madness with power. At least from my perspective. It seems like she genuinely didn’t want anything to do with fame. Amy Winehouse literally simply wanted to create art, which may have actually been too damn good
My heart broke when she died, you could see it coming. I was in London the year after her death and decided to pass by her house to pay my respects. Many beautiful messages posted everywhere, what a tragedy.
RIP Tony Bennett (August 3, 1926 - July 21, 2023), aged 96 And RIP Amy Winehouse (September 14, 1983 - July 23, 2011), aged 27 You both will be remembered as legends.
Tony has class, something sadly lacking in our society today. He is an amazing talent and is STILL in awe of the magic of music. I enjoyed the interview very much 😃
I met Mr. Bennet maybe 30 years ago in Omaha. He was apparently doing a show or shows there. Cannot remember the of the downtown hotel but I was sitting at the bar around dinner time having dinner, it was not real busy and Mr. Bennet asked if he could sit next to me. He said eating dinner alone in hotels gets old and he figured Omaha was quiet to come out. He asked if I was a local and I was then and a bartender in Old Market and what was good on menu. Told him I came specifically only for a couple things on menu. He ordered, we ate, we sat there and talked for hours, he did not have show that night. He was one the nicest, most genuine, most interesting and kind people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. I grew up with my parents listening to his music with Sinatra, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, etc and was always a fan. God bless the man. He is a national treasure. Peter is waiting at the gates to greet him with open arms.
@@thaterasound her dad was a $ grubbing publicity hound. He didn't have Amy's best interest at heart. When they were in St. Lucia so she could rest & rehab, her father was the one who told the paparazzi they were there. They came, took a bunch of unflattering photos & dear ol dad got paid. All against Amy's wishes!
I’ve always admired older people. First of all, to even reach your life in the 80s and still love what u do is just inspiring. His wisdom on enjoying your life and longevity says it all!
I wasn't a fan of Amy's until I saw a video of her sing with Tony Bennett. She is the modern Billie Holiday in the way she sings and in her tragic life ending too soon. Apart from her singing, the best thing about watching her sing with Tony Bennett, is the way she looks so adoringly at him.
Google Amy singing "Valerie" at Glastonbury live in 2007. Listen to her do "Teach Me Tonight" and just about anything else. It's been a few years, so maybe you're now more familiar with this absolute incredible talent, who prior to destroying her life just might've been the best of them all and certainly rated above Gaga!
My husband was a die hard jazz fan and he drooled over Amy Winehouse. It wasn’t only her talent but she was a fascinating character. As far as Lady Gaga, I think she is a great entertainer but she always sounds a little off key to me.
Bennett said she was the most natural jazz singer he could remember working with. And her record company had her going out, singing those self destructive songs she’d written for years after the album was released. They used her, and her father shamelessly used her, and her ex-husband destroyed her, introducing her to Class A drugs when alcohol had been her drug of choice. There were only a few people who would have had to power to take her away to some remote place where the public and paparazzi couldn’t get at her, and where she couldn’t get her hands on booze and drugs, but they weren’t allowed anywhere near her. Just a tragedy, all the way around. Her parents were the worst for somebody like her, too....her mother was such a weak, indecisive, and easily manipulated parent, and her father was a loudmouth controlling creep, a sociopath, who felt he deserved to be as “big” as Amy was. And her brother couldn’t stand her, long before she became famous. It’s just a horrible tragedy.
Facts. This is one of the only times where I can’t stand with the parents. It’s quite telling how fast Mitch released a book, set up a “charity” auctions her stuff off , made movies, clothes lines, unreleased material the list goes on. It’s so sour
Met Tony Bennet in 2005. Saw him perform at the Pescara Jazz fest in Italy. Saw him perform for €10...amazing show. We were drinking Prosecco in the back row... At the end of the show I screamed out "Tony Fly me to the fucking Moon!"... and he played it. Swear on my life. I then finagled my way backstage... he passed by and we're both from the same "area" of Queens; i lied and said "Mr Bennet im from Astoria too (im not but bot far away either ) can I get a picture? " He said "Ok kid make it quick I gotta go"...still have that picture... one of the best nights of my life

Slow down, the whole secret is to live long and enjoy life 😭😭😭 I felt like Tony was speaking to me because I need to follow the same advice as well. I wish this world's younger generation could slow down on nonsense and be humble.
“Live long”. It sounds like simple advice but it’s so profoundly wise. Get off the hamster wheel and just stroll. Take the long way. No need to rush, there are no timelines, there’s no “too old” or “too late” (that’s all stuff we made up)....find the balance and make things that will last beyond a trend or a moment and enjoy the process. God I love Tony Bennett.
Her documentary said Amy was heavy into her addiction at that time. .. If that’s not proof addiction is a disease, Amy was doing a Duet with one of her idols & could not stay sober for it... Glad Tony is still around.. I could listen to him all day....
I feel like you can tell when someone is going to die when their life is feeling like a freight train that won’t slow down and will crash at any moment. My sister in her worst days of addiction told me “just get used to me on Xanax. I’ll be on them for the rest of my life”. She died probably a month after she told me that….😢💔
Amy was well over her addiction to hard drugs at this time and 2 years before her death. Unfortunately though not with alcohol as she died of alcohol poisoning. And she was sober during her duet with Tony she was not drunk.
Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga together gave us such a beautiful album...i love cheek to cheek. Tony is a legend & gaga is so versatile she made it look like shes a jazz singer ❤
Amy was the best in this. As usual. Forget Lady Gaga and what have you. She had the voice of her generation. And tony bennett knew it. And she was so proud he called her name.... Isn t that heartbreaking?
This makes me really sad. Drug addiction is so hard and happens to those of us who are broken and sad. I am healing from my years long opiate and stimulant addiction. There is help. Unfortunately most help isnt the best help. You have to keep advocating for yourself to find the proper help and for some people that's just too much to do if we don't have a support system helping us.. it's hard enough to want help but when the system is broken it makes it even harder. And when you are ashamed traumatized and embarrassed its almost impossible.. we need to fight for better treatment and care for addicts without stigma and shaming
I read a lot of these comments about people going to tears. Well, I could understand it but I'm too old for that . . . except . . .The first record I ever bought was Tony's in the early nineteen fifties; 97 cents plus tax, a 78 rpm disk. Two tunes but the side that caused me to spend my teenager's money was, "Someone Turned The Moon Upside Down" and I don't believe a lot of people have ever heard of the song. The "B" side was called, "I'll Go" and I'm even more certain that fewer people have ever heard it. But I could recognize talent, even as a teenager.
The fact that Tony never got to have that talk with Amy must have been very sore for him. He had to be asking himself could I have made a difference. But you don't get to live the life he's lived without understanding that you can't dwell on things. You have to get on with it.
People have commented that she had been off drugs for three years. Not true, sadly, she had relapsed. Once on ALL drugs, i.e., hard drugs as well as alcohol, it is very difficult not to go back. She did. And that cost her her life. Not many know she had gone back on drugs but she had sought further treatment, knowing it would kill her. And it did, among other issues with her health.
no, no she didn't. I'd like to know where you get your information from because I've read just about every book written about her and the general consensus is that she gave up drugs in 2008. Her "relapses" were on alcohol.
***** true, but not illegal. I'm sure she'd used paracetamol/aspirin/ibuprofen too and they're also drugs. But the view that she was taking illegal drugs up to her death is false. The distinction is important because the way alcoholics and drug addicts are viewed is completely different. And alcohol is everywhere and impossible to avoid. Relapses on alcohol are a lot more understandable. IMO.
